Well you could say it's just a matter of some animators just being more skilled than others. You go though the myriad of drawing styles of a long running anime, like DBZ or Urusei Yatsura. The difference is quality or art depends on the skill of the artist, and production stability/budget at the time.

But to bounce off that, it applies even more for eroge than anime, at least when it comes to seiyuu. It's at the near bottom of the totem pole for them, chances are unless its Misono Mei or the like, the seiyuu voicing your character is cursing every moment they do it and just biding their time before they can move on to better things.
Unless you don't believe that, which leads me back to the original question of if you're a pessimist about it or an optimist.

I suppose it is also a function of how much freedom the participant has in the production. The writers and directors get the most freedom, mainly. The artists get a fair amount, though still beholden to the writer. Seiyuu, unless I'm somehow mistaken in the production process, generally get little to no freedom or input.

Composers, a bit of a weird bunch to me. It seems they get as much freedom as they want in designing a soundtrack. Of course beholden to the tone of the work and the some other guidelines, but within that they seem to be allowed to do what they want. They are also quite divorced from the actual content, the specifics of what happens in a scene or story doesn't matter much, it's just the tone.
And it's not like they create a separate track for each scene either, the tracks they make get reused as the director sees fit, in theory a composer hardly even has to read more than an outline of what he's producing for.
Given their freedom you might expect the most passion to come from their input? Yet, I don't really know much how they feel about their production. I should read more composer interviews or something.

The short answer is no. If all you care about is money, there are much easier and faster avenues than eroge.

To give a more nuanced answer, I think a lot of people high up on the creative ladder feel really hamstrung by dealing with increasingly heavy censorship, and trying to make something profitable so that the studio can stay alive, while still respecting the creative freedom of the team working under them.
Then the further down on the rungs you go and the less responsibility there is, the less pressured they feel by our current creative climate, to the point where you eventually get to grunts on the bottom like bug testers and seiyuu and art assistants/writing assistants who feel almost no pressure at all and are just super psyched that their job is making or doing the thing they love.

And I think a lot of modern eroge and otaku media in general reflect that, with big ideas sometimes feeling compromised or watered down, but with the little details being as passionate as ever.

Anyway to browse either you need a vpn and to purchase:
dlsite : you can make an account on forbooks to purchase points as cards. But you can only buy points once a day, a maximum of 3 cards and it they come as (500,1000,1500,2000,5000,10000) yen and you cant buy the same amount twice (so you cant do 2x2000)
DMM: haven't had any issues with just linking my visa (I'm not from burgerland). Charging is a lot easier as you can type any amount above 500 and you can do it multiple times a day

The only rape-focused VN I like is 陵辱相姦図 ～強制妊娠精液地獄～, but I'm not really a fan of the genre so maybe take that with a grain of salt.
It's also really short, like ~2 hours or something.

Just finished Rune Lord. Great VN, really enjoyed it. If you have any nostalgia for cheesy mecha anime for the late 90s/early 2000s I would highly recommend it. It's cliched but it fully commits to the cliche and plays everything perfectly straight with utter sincerity. The game starts off decent but just keeps getting better and better as the routes progress until it becomes fantastic. My one big regret is that I didn't realize it was very much a direct sequel to the two previous games from the devs when I started, so if you're going to read it you should probably read them first.

I do think it's a bit weird that there's a dramatic showdown with the last boss, then the date route with all the h-scenes, then after the SOL is done they go 'hey the last boss survived it's time for a rematch' and do another showdown with the last boss. Also some, let's say non-standard story developments like: (big spoilers)

Problem with Amakano 1 was that there was no interactions as a group of friends. Hoshi Ori and Ginharu really excelled at that. I just found it to be quite bland and boring to spend 99% of the time in a route with just the heroine. Not as a group. It's so reduced to only you and your girlfriend that it feels bland. The Yuumi and Rina stuff is nothing new, it's a short novel Scadi wrote not so long ago for comiket, and it's basically just fan service futa shit. The CD drama's story seems infinitely more interesting since it involves both Saki's and Kenichiro's past, so I'd liked to see it adapted into the story proper, it's not like IV was particularly long in the first place anyway. Rin's stuff could be interesting based on the title, so that's something I guess. Still, it's an underwhelming release compared to what Suba had in the past, honestly.
