Shit, last I checked GH/CH hadn't even figured out a meaningful difficulty scale because they only numerically rate the songs rather than the individual charts. Been playing Future Performers for the past few hours, I like it quite a bit so far. They've changed it up a bit, but not exactly for the worst. I miss Ad-Libs. but playing on the Advanced style adds the left and right specific-colored notes which is pretty fun. Don't really like the shoulder buttons notes though, they're just really awkward to hit on a controller. The animated background stuff is cool, but it's funny as fuck seeing stuff like Cirno's Perfect Math Class clips being in so low quality resolution. Story mode is standard High School rhythm game club plot, but it's fine. I'm surprised there isn't more to do though. WWP had missions and challenges and even an online versus (that nobody uses and you won't ever get a match anymore, but whatever), so I would've expected something like those too. But WWP had a lot of support with DLC packs (that I still haven't bought all of) so hopefully they keep supporting the game with updates in the future.

I have a yuancon controller I picked up sometime ago, it works great for wai wai and the ripped arcade version. However for the switch controller setup the big buttons are programmed on ZL and ZR, so I cannot use those for normal notes in the new game.

I'm baffled that even k-shootmania is getting a whole rework and a new file format (which has its whole ton of caveats rn) with better functionality and is going to support both USC and KSM v2, while bms is stuck in pre historic time, and most of its players (read nips) are still stuck in that abandonware who can't even open itself without exploding if you didn't config it right.
Either way it's not like it'll never change (I hope), bmson is a thing and beatoraja supports it. but I'm not quite sure if artist groups are gonna break backwards compatibility for the newer format adoption alone.

No idea what games you play, but I certainly never had that experience with IIDX/Gitadora/popn or Etterna. In general I never found that I have huge fluctuations in performance. There is some, and I can be in "bad shape" some days where I just feel more sluggish or stiff and my scores suffer a bit, but we're talking in the realm of 5% score difference at its worst, not a significant drop in general clear ability or something. That seems to be much more correlated to having slept well than how stressful my day was though. I definitely had shit days, but that just made the session afterwards even more fun because I could use it to unwind by shutting my brain off and hitting buttons.

if you have data from another source, you can check the torrent for the same data from sows against it, let it redownload a tiny amount of data to make it 100% match if it needs to, then seed that and get some more upload from it. same is also sometimes possible for music uploads that may be available on other private trackers/discords/whatever. could also look into uploading some music yourself. the most helpful possible thing you can do to build a lot of upload is wait for sitewide freeleech and just download everything and seed it long-term.
if you're specifically just looking for recent data and don't care about anything else on sows all of this is probably not particularly worth the effort since everyone knows data is not as locked down as it used to be. this is just advice from someone who built a lot of ratio when sows used to be more essential in that sense. i think it's still valuable for access to omnimixes and other mods, dumps of older things, obscure music uploads, and other arcade miscellany. the community has always been diseased, not just because of pedo conspiracy stuff but because everyone has a personality disorder.

1048 is a good base, but you'll have to learn to break it at least for S+ 1+2/2+3/1+3. You generally shouldn't hope to rely on a single static style, but whatever you pick is lacking can later be separately practiced then incorporated into your main, and at that point it might as well be a single style again.

Basically just learn 1048 and figure out the rest later.

Never got people's obsession with this in IIDX. Hit the buttons how you think is comfortable, if you start encountering patterns you can't execute adjust as necessary. Especially since there is a lot more to the technique than "what finger goes on what button" and most practice comes down to training your dexterity.

The most important thing to train first is hand eye coordination/sightreading for associating the notes with the exact area of the buttons. Once you have that, for any given pattern you see you will automatically know how to hit it, you just wont be able to because you lack the dexterity - and that's what you'll be training the other 99% of your time playing the game.

Therefore: best playstyle to start with is some index-like style, as dynamic as possible initially and you will find you will naturally transition into using your other fingers reflexively as you increase pattern complexity simply because it's the most efficient way of using your hands. You will still take ages to git gud, but you skip all the dumb shit of forcing yourself into doing things that are uncomfotable or even physically painful because "but this playstyle is objectively the best" that makes most people bounce off IIDX

Once you start playing mid-level scratch charts (9s) you'll need to pick up another style as well. I started with 1048+wrist and then I picked up 2/5 split using my right thumb for the two bottom middle buttons for scratch heavy sections and when I started playing Beachside Bunny I just learned how to one-hand. Doing any high-level scratch chart without at least switching to a 2/5 split is horrible for accuracy.

You missed the point. My point was to learn the hand eye coordination to not rigidly play in one particular style only because you forced yourself into it, but to learn how to be dynamic and form and adjust your style as you go so you don't end up in that situation. The only way you can end up "having to learn a different playstyle" is if you rigidly burned one into your brain in the first place. Note how I never said "just learn whatever style you want it'll be fine", I think the concept of "learning a style" is retarded if that means blindly following guides on hand placement instead of training the underlying skills that will allow you to form an effective style on your own.

This is fine to tell people until they're playing like, 6s, at which point they'll need to actively make sure they have a plan for hitting scratch and 3 keys with one hand simultaneously. Even when I told people this from the beginning, they've ended up relying more on situational 2:5 and trading hands on 3 (which is a good skill to have later!), but then they get walled after 10dan and have to relearn when it turns out their right hand is too busy to hit 3 every time. It's easier to tell people some viable scratch hand styles to experiment with from the beginning, because a lot of people don't have enough sense to "naturally transition into using your other fingers reflexively as you increase pattern complexity", especially when premium free restarting is such a prevalent bad habit that lets them get frustrated and restart after encountering too many S13457 chords in a row or whatever. People are prone to thinking that what they're doing can work if they just keep at it, and they might even get results for a long time. It's somewhat true, in the same way that even claw can get you to BPL, but even くれい has acknowledged that his playstyle is a mistake after shit like getting blown up on Secrets SPL in front of thousands of people.

It is quite literally impossible to get a DDR pad that's worth even a minuscule amount of shit without spending at least five hundred dollars, and even then the LTek (polish pads) are kinda shit. If you're DIY inclined, you can build your own Cobalt Flux with this kit from DDR Game.

$200 admittedly is a fantastic price for the LTek. I probably would have been happy spending that much on one. Sadly, I spent nearly 500 on mine and felt it was severely lacking for the money I dropped on it. For stuff up to 16s, maybe even 17s and some easier 18s, it does the job. But it doesn't feel good to play on at all in my opinion. I was hoping for something that felt close to a Cobalt Flux, but it felt far cheaper and way less reliable. Serious buyers remorse.
