Monobeno is a love letter to rural Japan and so has tons of hick Japanese accents. Monobeno is to the boonies what Maitetsu was to trains. It's not too hard to read so long as you can handle some slang. I think the untranslateable part mostly comes in because doing a literal translation would kill it, you'd need to have an bilingual accent expert on the team to make sure you're conveying the accents appropriately. It's doable, but the person with the appropriate skills and background to do it would cost way too much money to ever work on a VN.

And fan TLs? Over the last 2 decades the kind of person willing to spend months if not years of their free time to translate a single game have been soured on EOPs to hell and back and thus unwilling to translate.

Anons how did you traverse the abyss(?) there is between all of the SOL / moege / most manga to playing the more serious VNs/LNs?
I can read the former easily, but trying to read some games, while I do enjoy them, they feel like they take too much effort with the constant metaphors, vague dialogue and rare kanji/words. Did you all just power through them?

I tried reading Umineko in Japanese but quit because it was too hard. I switched to a more slice of life game and have been working through it slowly. I too would like to know what people did to get into more serious works, but I fear the answer is just grinding more. I think you just have to spend many painful hours and there’s no way around it. But on the bright side going through SoL games feels like it’s helping me get used to understanding sentence structures and determining who is talking about who which would be much harder if there’s too many unknown kanjis in the sentence.
Anonymous No.49758875 >>49759383

I feel like grinding more has to be the answer, but my issue is that most games I didn't really have any issues with (bunny black (1 at least havent touched the rest) , rance , disgaea , nanairo reincarnation (peak) ,蛇足(dont) ,tinkerbell)
But then it feels like there's just a huge chasm between those and for example ゴスデリ, just reading 1-1 feels like its too much. Grinding the former doesn't seem to help much.

You just take the jump. Think of reading your first more difficult "serious" VN as just like reading your first VN, it'll be slower and more difficult at first but will get much easier after some time.
It's an easy place to get stuck in since you feel like you've already "done the work" and can read easy stuff easily so going through that slight grind again for the harder stuff seems off putting.

You can just pick something that you know wont be super difficult to read first and ease into it, it's not like there's only super difficult and super easy, there's plenty of stuff in the "middle"

How do you anons overcome yourself after years of comfy NEET life? I get overwhelmed with dread when I look at job offers.
It's not that I won't be able to work. But with nobody to guide or to reassure me that the company I'm applying for is alright I get thought like
>What if they decide do dump all the blame on me if something goes wrong?
>What if I decide to leave and they'll spread the word about blacklisting me in other companies?
That is if I even get the job. I got rejected a lot in the past due to lack of experience.

Yeah I'm playing it now. The games don't disappoint when it comes to production and special effects, but it's hard to recommend the first game since the plot is pretty mediocre and a big part of it ends up being a heavens feel bootleg.
The new game's set up is already more interesting than the family conflict shit from the first game and there's a proper antagonist group now, but there's been too much focus on fighting monsters instead of humans fighting each other so far (seems like it's starting to progress to conflict between characters at the point I just arrived at) and I'm still not sure if it'll end up being that much better. They go over quickly a few plot points about the first game at certain times and the game starts off with the MC already familiar with the world as opposed to the first game where he starts off as a normal guy and gets infodumped shit and whatnot. I'm not sure how much of that will be relevant later on in the story, but there's a glossary and so far you could probably follow along without having read the first. You'll quickly be spoiled some things like a first game antagonist's actual power and another character's secret identity though.
Usually I'd say always read the first game anyways but it doesn't feel right recommending a game that just isn't that great. Then again the new game could end up not so great as well, but anyways on the bright side both games give h-scenes to their lolis.

Finished all Akane's endings in kiminozo. All the bad endings are for comedic purpose. I noticed the true end is parallel of Mitsuki's true end (after leaving Haruka, MC and heroine hugging while crying) but Akane's one feels much anticlimactic imo. Also it's quite unsatisfying by only showing timeskip Haruka being healthy and all well ends well like what???

Basically just something short and sweet to tide you over until cold war. Natore's append was an expansion of her flashback in the original, Estelle's was a cute short side story that didn't amount to much, and Milly's was essentially providing a status quo update so you're ready for Cold War, it was a lot of exposition. I enjoyed it, but you should probably wait until Cold War is closer to read it because I think I'm probably gonna forget a lot of the exposition and have to be reminded.

I really liked Antori, I think it was one of the best releases of last year. It's essentially a spy drama like slow horses or tinker tailor set in a fantasy world after not-WWI between Vampire Nazi Germany, Magician JapAmerica, and Soviet Furry Russia. It does a lot of things that are pretty unusual for the genre and takes some pretty heavy swings. Plus the fact it's getting multiple sequels is pretty nice. Well worth a read if you like plotge and want something a little different.

I'm sure this doesn't need saying here, but imoutos are special and love between siblings is beautiful.

Game was different than I expected, focused mostly on daily life plus some folklore research, not fighting monsters etc.
This made the more dramatic or tragic parts like the past backstory or Shouko route endings give bit of a whiplash, but I suppose that's the writer's intent.
One recent EGS review says
>読後に静かで大きな余韻を残し、強烈な山場があるというより、気づけば心の深いところをじわりと掴まれている、そんな作品
which captures my feelings well too.

The early bad endings where you decide to stop following on things really stuck with me. They're short bad endings, mostly to have more choices and more branches in the flowchart, I guess, but they the regret of making the wrong choice very powerfully.

Of course, Sakuya, the imouto, is clearly the main heroine, but the other routes had very good romance too.
Wish your aunt Satsuki had a route too. She has a husband, but he's away for work and never appears, might have as well been a widow or divorced. And it's not like having an aunt route should be an issue, when they already have a cousin route and an imouto true route.

Shouko route and Sachiko subroute are very lolige-style. For Shouko, there are supernatural circumstances to why they have sex so early, but for Sachiko, MC is like "she's a kid, but I want her".

Will read the fandisc and extras now. You should read the game, if the tags interest you. To me it's one of the best games I read so far.

It's the same shit in Amagami. However if you are pursuing two girls at once and one of them sees you attacking the girl in public there's a jealousy scene and the possibility of a bad end. It's more fun to play the game pursuing two girls at once because of this.

I did Narumi's route first because I read she was the least popular heroine. Now I will probably do Futami's route because she seems like best girl. The system is similar to Amagami but different. If I didn't read the guide I wouldn't of been able to complete even Narumi's route on the first try because the game is pretty rng based unlike Amagami. In Kimikiss you have a "topic bag" that contains 16 topics, you should select a topic bag based on the girl you are trying to win. When you go around the school you have 4 time periods like Amagami but unless there is a story event it isn't guranteeded that any girl will be the same spot and not only that but the beginning she might even refuse to talk to you but you just have to be persist and keep stalking her based on the locations that are indicated in the guide. Once you acutally talk to a girl you will start a "matching conversation" with her and you will be able to select topics from your topic bag that you think match her bag. Girls have 16 topics like you, however it changes everyday to pick only 8 random topics so the topic that you used yesterday won't work again today. Not only that but you are also not able to select a topic that already has been use in that day if you talk to her more than once. If you sucessfully match conversations with one the girl has in her bag you will gain either suki or nakayoshi points which are required to reach an ending. There is also 4 different levels to nakayoshi or suki and in order to progress to the next level you need to "attack" and this will only be sucessful if her "tension" is high enough. This combined with there being a hard timelimit (30 in game days) to win a heroine before the school festival results in a system in which the player may not even be able sucessfully win the girl of his choice if you don't raise your affection points high enough in the beginning.

Cardinal sin of gacha, they nerfed the whales (and basically everyone else as well while also introducing mechanics that incentivise whaling). Before the drama player interest and revenue was already dwindling because of slow story, updates, bad unit balance and chinese/global servers getting better treatment compared to the JP server. Players were looking for a excuse to chimp out, which the developers handed on a gold platter in the form of back to back live streams full of baffling decisions.

Some of the drama already got addressed this week, but this Sunday is a big anniversary live stream, so we'll see what they have in store to turn it around.

China has a different government model than the West and in their case you can justify it a bit since they need that "little" control to keep their country from breaking down from its sheer size. Still not a good a idea to give a small group that much power though. A lot of govs suddently trying to monitor people online at the same time like this doesn't feel like a good sign.
