Monobeno is a love letter to rural Japan and so has tons of hick Japanese accents. Monobeno is to the boonies what Maitetsu was to trains. It's not too hard to read so long as you can handle some slang. I think the untranslateable part mostly comes in because doing a literal translation would kill it, you'd need to have an bilingual accent expert on the team to make sure you're conveying the accents appropriately. It's doable, but the person with the appropriate skills and background to do it would cost way too much money to ever work on a VN.

On the topic of untranslatable kamige, maybe this is a newb question, but is there a specific reason Popotan has never been translated?

There's no way in hell something with that aesthetic is going to get localized officially in this day and age.
And fan TLs? Over the last 2 decades the kind of person willing to spend months if not years of their free time to translate a single game have been soured on EOPs to hell and back and thus unwilling to translate.
