They are self-contained.
Reading Mahoyo will help understand universal concepts like magecraft better and maybe recognize a reference but in general isn't necessary to understand any of the works. They all actually take place in different worlds so at best the continuity is something like "Uh, yeah, some version of this story probably happened in this world too but it'd be a bit different at minimum. Don't think about it."

KnK does feature a character from Mahoyo but Mahoyo as you experience it in the VN doesn't lead to KnK. On the other hand Mahoyo is actually in the same world as Tsukihime and Aoko is an important part of the setup for the protagonist of Tsukihime even though her presence is limited. So it'd be more useful in the context of seeing some views on life being passed along to Tsuki from Mahoyo.

On the extreme end, Tsukihime and Fate are not connected. You get cameo crossovers but serious proper representation isn't what you should expect since many characters and themes don't exist or fit in the opposing work.

There are 4 different artists that colour his work so it depends. The Actress Again style is Takao though, and although the Tsukihime remake was coloured by everyone, it's in Koyama's style and he was the director.

I don't know if anyone here remembers, but there used to be a lot of translated type-moon doujinshi hosted at blstorage.manga-sketchbook.org.
Someone shared that link here around 15 years ago, and since most of the content seemed to have been taken from Gaku Gaku Animal Land which had then recently died, I figured it'd be a good idea to back up the site.
I checked and you can find most of this stuff hosted on other sites now, but some I couldn't find (they may just have used a different name though).

I don't know how to feel about this. It is good that after all of the hardships they went through, Nasu gave a confirmation that happiness is still in their reach. However, it reduces the weight of Shiki sacrificing himself. I would have been happier if Akiha's route just ended right after she retrieved Shiki's knife instead of being blueballed of how their reactions will look like and what the future holds for them. Or maybe I'm being ungrateful. It is more content and perspective of another side of Akiha's life that we never see.

Some of them are random and others aren't. There is strategy involved with choosing the right moment to use them, managing the points they use and mitigating the effect of opponents NPs. Also it makes Shinji more of an underdog because his NP is barely usable.
