I fail to see a logical reason as to why they should be as pungent as you describe them. I suppose you can't let yourself be held back by common sense in Gensokyo, but still: Hina's are undeniably some of the worst-smelling on the surface (only beaten out by Rin's sulphur stompers), given her constant aerobics, affinity for stockings, and non-breathable knee-high leather boots.
