I get that writing the kanji when learning it does help with memorization, but reviewing the recognition cards takes forever

I'm not exactly a beginner, I did try the learning from immersion and mining but decided might as well get a chunk of the work out of the way and learn the kanji meanings. I still try to read vns and lns and still mine words but I have noticed that rtk really has helped my enjoyment in reading. It's just the handwriting grind that is getting out of hand.

The issue I had with just learning kanji through vocabulary was that they still seemed like moonrunes to me, I was learning words but was just brute forcing the kanji. I'm at 1600 of rtk and heisig's primitives have been of much help for being able to identify similar looking kanji. Reading is much more enjoyable when I'm able to deduce the meaning of a word before looking at the dictionary instead of stopping completely. I do agree that further studying each reading and all that is probably a waste of time for how much it would take.
