There was this another story. Apparently Shengqu Games, the other developer for the game was employed later in development. Originally that task was supposed to be Altplus Inc. but I do not know if they got replaced or not. Maybe the previous financial reports of Klab Games will have the answer.
Pic related was the in-game development images revealed in AJ2018 and you kind of see that Altplus' concept was better than Shengqu's VN style cutscenes.

This is why it's so important to analyze the sovl and passion behind a game and it's dev before you get roped into sovlless slurping. To understand sovl, you must have sovl yourself and not just jump into the easiest bait game. Sovlless always have such uninspired and safe art, gameplay, story and will compensate with bumping up the graphic. They also try to reach the most audience with ads and sponsors. They also try to secure the EOP who hasn't even considered looking into at least 10 games before picking a game out of an ad. Players need to be more selective with their games. It's been like two years and I still feel like Lapis was wasted potential. It did not seem like a project doomed from the start even when it was still Project Parallel and the idea of having Sensei in some media but not all. Things could have been so different if they didn't get China involved.
