The Best of Touhou Content
ITT we talk about the best Touhou content, mainly unofficial, Doujin music. Or even talk about the best songs in official works.

I want to talk about the best songs, fanfics/fanmade mangas, videos, drawings, or even products that a Touhou fan should have downloaded. I am somewhat very interested in the manga side, I have heard there are some good creators out there that I will want to see.

For the videos and songs one, it could be classics like the Rampaging Sakuya animation, obvious picks like Nights of Nights. But also about not-so-known content that is still very good, like niche mangas, fanmade content, or very good or unique music. Both the very well-known ones of these types of content, as well as lesser-known ones that deserve a chance.

Just imagine you have to make an archive of the best Touhou has to offer and leave it buried for it to be rediscovered in 500 years later. Wanting to give the best impression.

Not OP but I fucking loved that group. Easily one of my favorite circles when they were around. Their stuff had such a uniquely chill vibe. I think they rebranded as Touhou Jihen and still exist in that form but I remember the Sally incarnation more fondly just for the memories I have associated with them.

Shibayan used to drop banger after banger until they decided to go all in on doing bossa nova. This isn't to say the bossa nova stuff is bad, just that the electronic stuff was iconic.

Vector Spectacle is utter kino, it has such a strong energy, like a good studio trigger show but in manga form, and its about Seija and Shimmy
The artist gives every single character such a distinct design, even no-name mooks and citizens
I absolutely love its depiction of Former Hell, all its characters and locations, its dirtyness alongside its homelyness
Its funny, hype, sorrowful and hopeful all at the same time

No one appreciates instrumental music anymore. It's always vocals, vocals, vocals. Sad. Truly great music doesn't need lyrics and transcends all boundaries of language. But of course, (You) wouldn't get it.

I am going to be honest. I resonate A LOT with this sentiment. All the market is about vocals and etc. I love instrumental music, but I also absolutely love when a song does well both instrumental and vocal, specially with chorus. Some of mt favorite songs are those were is a female or ethereal voice that does not speak too much and lets a good space for the instrumental or the chorus (I am talking about those things were a lot of people sing in the background, I do not know if it has a better name)

Sometimes it felt like I was the only one, I don't have any interest in the doujin scenes because it seems like it's all vocals. Touhou music express a lot through instrumentals only, long awaited omagatoki is such an example (and probably my favourite recent ZUN track), same as Chimata's theme really.
What do you guys recommend? I've never dug deep in the doujin music scene as a result so I don't know a lot. I only know dbu and zts, but I don't think anyone would call them hidden gems.

I know some good TAMusic songs that are only instrumental, as well as Eurobeat. I found a good one by searching "Border of life eurobeat" the title was in Japanese. If you are searching for instrumental you could take a look to Kuroneko lounge's house set of touhou.

Thank you.

My favorite type of Touhou tracks are those that have such a unique vibe. There is a strange sentiment that some music thumbnails or songs have that I always chase. For example the intro of Kuroneko lounge's Native Faith Re Edit. I think the word is magic, mystic and mysterious vibe.

There was a Touhou song I wanted to find of I think perfdcr cherry blossom that had a very pretty, but ambiguous artwork in the background. It was a spiral of petals and a black background forming a circle with some text in Japanese. There is very few Touhou music that gives me this vibe but I absolutely love it when I get one. Do you know what I am talking about? Sometimes I feel like its something only I know about.

I can't say I could pinpoint any touhou arrange based on an image in a youtube video (presumably). I haven't used youtube for most touhou music since the early 2010s anyway, so I'm completely out of loop in that regard.

Its okay. Hehe. I know this will make me sound like a beginner, but where do you get Touhou music?
Anonymous No.49884088
>>49884036
In order to really make use of any kind of website that offers links to touhou music, you first need to know what you're looking for, as in what doujin circles/bands and artists you enjoy. Otherwise you have an unfathomably huge collection of things to go through and you don't know where to start. But, for torrenting you can google Touhou Lossless Music Collection and for direct downloads Doujinstyle. Like I said though, these won't help you much unless you know WHAT you're looking for.

In order to find something you might like, I'd just resort to going to youtube and searching for a song you like from the original soundtrack, placing it in the search field and inserting "東方をレンジ" (as in touhou arrange) or "remix" or "arrange" with it and see where it leads you. You'll either find uploads from artists and doujin circles themselves, or then reuploads by youtubers not affiliated with the artist/doujin circle who made the song, in which case most of the song info should be in the description which then helps you find more content from the same doujin circle or artist. A lot of the music is brought to you by content reuploaders, so if you like a song, you might also enjoy a lot of the other songs a youtuber has reuploaded into the channel. That's how most touhou music was available in the early days, might not be the case anymore though.

And if even that is too much of a hassle, there's also Gensokyo Radio which is a free radio that plays touhou music 24/7 I believe. But that will include vocal remixes as well.

The Internet Archive has a surprising number of tracks, especially non-Touhou tracks made by the circles/arrangers usually known for their Touhou works.
Wherever you get your songs from, make sure to download as soon as you find something you like. I'd say about 10% of the videos in my youtube playlist have been taken down or deleted for one reason or another over the years. Not as big of a problem for Touhou uploads as it is for adjacent music (such as doujin tracks made for VNs or the like), but in the end nothing trumps direct ownership of that file for yourself

Continuing with this, I feel like I am the only one who knows about this vibe. If you want an example of what I am talking about, you can hear some Bvdub songs that have this vibe. I would love to hear Touhou music that has this unique, mysterious, magical-but-not-fantasy vibe, I could feel a bit of it in the house set of Trojan Green Asteroid. I would love to hear if some Anon has felt this vibe with a Touhou song.
