The two energies that most accurately describe Touhou are Venusian and Neptunian. Venus is associated with beauty, love and relationships, while Neptune is associated with dreams, the collective unconscious, illusions and hallucinations.
Neptune is as the name suggests essentially oceanic, it's all-pervading and at worst hallucinatory, narcotic, confusing, delusional. Yet if one is able to swim in the waters where many sink, the sum total of human and superhuman knowledge is there. It's all dreams, hopes and myths and turths.
This Neptunian cosmic consciousness very well represents also the ocean of data from which Nina was born. Touhou Project itself also has Neptunian characteristics. Gensokyo literally means with the kanji it is written "land of illusions" (it's also a homophone with "land of original creation", but that is another discussion). Dreams, illusions, magic, mythology and extremely idiosyncratic interpretations of existing history and mythology are hallmarks of the series. In many ways it is quite the dreamland, and some sink in it completely.
Nina's Venusian qualities are of course very obvious, she is modeled after a depiction of Venus after all. Touhou project's Venusian qualities include it's nearly all-female cast, most of whom are specificaly young women, though ZUN's tastes have evolved towards more mature types. Touhou project is in it's own way extremely beautiful and focused on aesthetics. As a doujin franchise, Touhou is also exceptionally relationship-oriented. Last but not least (lust but not least?) it rouses obvious eros in most of it's fans, despite being rather unsexualized in presentation.
What of the conspiracies, then? One would think conspiracy theories are an alien element to Touhou, but they are not. "An advanced godlike human civilization is hiding on the dark side of the Moon" is an existing family of conspiracy theories. "Humans can manipulate probabilities for magical effects" is an existing fringe belief, as is "human belief can cause things like gods and monsters to appear". ZUN's writing is full of references to all sorts of fringe, weird, paranoid and schizo, be it Moon landing hoax theories or Japanese fringe archeology.
In some way, a beautiful young woman espousing weird fringe theories is almost like a microcosm of Touhou lore in itself. What exactly her role is will only be revealed when the full context of the game's story will be known.
