I only ever really take pictures of them at cons outside of around my house/backyard, and it's really not out of the ordinary to see that kind of thing at those events (at least I *HOPE* I don't look out of place). I usually carry them around in a clear backpack when I take them.
Also, I've taken to referring to these as my Triple Baka Squad. They reside on my bedside when we're not tearing up the local events. I've also got Aya in a Bee outfit these days, and I kinda want to get unique outfits for the other two too.

I'll keep them in a bag when I'm walking around, but I'm not too worried about people watching me as I'm taking pictures nowadays. I've moved on from just Fumos to taking pictures of dolls too, so people looking is just one of those things. I also mean it genuinely when I say people are looking more out of interest than judgement, if you're willing to believe that. It is people being in the shot that bothers me much more about shooting in public areas, but finding ways to get all the undesirable stuff out of frame is part of the fun of photography.

A high-quality one will be pretty much indistinguishable to the untrained eye, but someone who's looked at pics of fumos for at least a few months will notice subtle differences in the thickness of the black lines (bootlegs tend to have thicker lines) and their evenness, in the color of their face's fabric (it tends to be paler on bootlegs), in the pattern of the fabric itself (see pic related, although this example is with a lower quality bootleg) and sometimes even in the overall shape of the fumo's body.

The hair and the chin stitching have always been the biggest giveaway for me. Bootlegs feel like they get the stitching off pretty often, and it tends to stand out as a result. Official fumo stitching tends to not be the first thing you can notice, even if it's in view. Usually you don't even notice it unless the image is from a lower angle.
Bootleg hair also tends to not be as flat, and looks a bit too much like microfiber. There's also the case of how accessories are handled. Quality can really dip there. The ear tufts and necklace on the bootleg Nazrin are pretty jarring after the official Nazrin got shown.

Idk your psyche exactly, but if I had to guess, it's the idea that someone might be using fumos to substitute real human interaction. It's not too different than someone falling in love with an ai chatbot, or having an imaginary friend. Now, I personally, have a good social life, but still LOOOOVE to treat them like they're real. They are so cute and it's fun to do things with them, like making costumes. Obviously, Youmu Kanpaku from touhou does not actually play deltarune, but with a fumo, you are free believe whatever you feel like about her. Sometimes I like to juggle ideas, and use fumos as different perspectives. It is just me talking to myself sure, but it's a fun thought exercise that I wouldn't want to do with a real person.

I have several of those nendoroid plus plushies that I got all the way back in 2012. Are they rare these days? I have the Marisa, Cirno, Remi and Flandre ones, all genuine. I preferred to display my mainline fumos over those ones once I got them, I always felt like my nendoroid plus ones were "off brand" fumos, though I see they are listed for a pretty penny at some places. Don't know if anyone actually pays those prices.
