I think I figured out why Shkanontrice bugs me so much. It doesn't adequately explain the fantasy scenes in the way the game sort of alludes to how they should be explained.

Like, in the question arcs, wacky shit happens, but it still MEANS something. Kinzo is burnt up by a fire spell alludes to his corpse being in the furnace, a horde of goats that eat everything and leave no trace alludes to a big firey inferno from a bomb, and perhaps more obviously the Chiesters represent the Winchesters down to the shitty winchester that doesn't work right.

But Shkanontrice just sort of says ILLUSION and then drops the subject there and then. Jessica turning into a demon and burning Kyrie alive = doesn't matter it's all fantasy lol - when we know that the fantasy scenes still MEAN something, just not LITERALLY what they depict.

That being said I'm sort of asking for a lot and there's really no theory out there that can definitively explain every fantasy scene - and Williard vagueposts for a reason during his duel with Claire. I'm just saying that Shkanontrice feels more like a conceit to duck the red than it does a theory that makes everything click like Kinzo being dead all along.

My thoughts exactly... the question arcs, or at least the first two of them before Ryushitty decided to hastily rewrite everything because he couldn't handle criticism, at least made it feel like the fantasy scenes meant something. That's part of why I think that even if some form of Shkanontrice was the solution to begin with, the exact method of it was changed, hence why it all has to be handwaved with "lol illusion just accept the answer, and accept being told you could have derived the answer from the fantasy when you actually couldn't have", because the hints that should have been there either weren't or didn't connect to the "new" solution anymore.
One scene that activates my almonds is in ep2 when Kanon confronts Beatrice and Jessica gets killed... Earlier, Shannon talked to dress-wearing Beatrice, and Kanon is heavily implied to be the skirt-Beatrice who played with Maria (while Shannon was busy serving the adults no less); here, Kanon talks to skirt-Beatrice who needles him for all his personal misgivings before seemingly teleporting into Jessica's room and transforming into dress-Beatrice... except, there's no real continuity between what skirt-Beatrice says to Kanon and what dress-Beatrice says in the room, despite the narration insisting there is.
It fits insanely well here to suggest that Kanon and Shannon are both "Beatrice" in some form but still separate people, with them (and their respective Beatrices) being portrayed as the same person as a red herring itself. Which also explains why the story is set up so well (well, not that well, but well enough) to suddenly declare they were the same person all along- there's already seeds of their identities overlapping, just for a different reason than them being literally the same person.
