don't mind kento but i dislike the casting of him here
what am i supposed to pretend he's not still playing a teen in kingdom which he's filming when he's not doing kamuy?
I hate 24 Hour TV so I will cheer on anything bad for the program, simple as.
But they are right that it is sekuhara, it reminds me of that old clip of Tunnels that went viral of them making an actress say sexual phrases.
The original Sailor Suit and Machine Gun is obviously made for pedophiles btw, the theme song is legendary though.
I wanna watch something moody (kinda like Lily Chou Chou), any recs? Preferably that moodyness comes from an anxiety underlayer or something rather than romance/heartbreak. Can be TV or movie.

By many measures, Japan has been falling off a cliff, and is only a few inches from full on authoritarianism. Korea has been soaring. Maybe it made sense to give the people true power instead of giving it to the shareholders.

24 hours TV this year was nothing but people on SNS complaining about Showa-like things happening on the show. >Ueda >Kinchan >Shoten >The marathon itself

They asked him about training and he said he walks a lot and even sweeping and cleaning can be exercise. He recommended the MC to clean more because his fat belly is not good. (The MC is 8 years younger than him)
Recomend me some really funny drama. I've already watched Densha Otoko, The Ancient Dogoo Girl(Only the first season), Nihonjin No Shiranai Nihongo and Minna Esper da Yo.

redditards know nothing about japanese tv beyond "funny game show where you don't laugh" and "funny game show where you see if it's made of chocolate" and "evil!!!!! game show where a man has to win mail-in raffles"

you know, i spent many years learning japanese and the customs and i thought i'd be able to watch owarais and comedy shows and *get it*, but even after all this time they're tough to watch
sometimes i think i just matured too much to the point where i'm sort of cynical, or maybe i just like subtle comedy more
>Rejected after 8 hours of interviews
Alright, I would like movies that embrace JUST. Or movies about NEETS. or Failure in general. Or someone who gets broken up with and goes on a bender, things of that nature
If anyone finds themselves in a similar position I'd recommend "the holy midnight maiden war" >>49956775

that's jp conservatism in a nutshell. pick the policies and ideology you like and discard the rest. but also claim your platform is "japan first" to get the nationalist vote
really wished we had less seiji talk on tv but wcyd

Why is Mitani Koki so underrated here? Unlike Sakamoto Yuji's, Kudokan's, and Bakarhythm's dramas, the only drama of his I see posted here is Furuhata Ninzaburo.
when normies complain about japanese acting is this just a case of standards for realism changing across different times and cultures or do japanese people themselves perceive the acting as being tailored to the medium and not strictly attempting realism?
not talking about anime/manga adaptation but serious dramas/films.
>>49961394
also i just posted a 'serious' manga adaptation without realizing it. i suppose i mean the ones that deliberately adopt an anime style like kagura-sama that get memed
>>49961394
Isn't it /a/? Jp films are popular in film festivals and most of those aren't really for weebs. /a/ might watch a live-action adaptation of shouen/rom-com and aside from some exceptions, most of those aren't good.
>>49961394
it's mainly that, japan still mostly uses a stage style of acting. but also japan is way more likely to put idols/models/singers in leading roles, I'd say the minimum level of competence expected is lower.
>>49961471
i also see people who are into kdramas often complain about jdrama acting even though I think the korean style is way worse from the little i've seen
>>49961499
kdramas are filmed in a way where every point in the episode is a screenshot that can be shared on social media
once you notice you'll think to yourself "why is the positioning of the characters so weird"
https://x.com/korekore19/status/1963488792926650388 >some blond male celebrity was two-timing a girl >she threatened to expose him to korekore after they broke up >he reports her to the police for intimidation before she can talk to korekore
lmao

BIG FAVOUR
I want to watch tv series and movies with the theme of single fathers or adult males taking care of a child/children. Things I already watched: My Girl, Tonbi, Kazoku no Uta.
>>49964605
He was pretty clear that it's a real celebrity people would know. Viewers were memeing that it was Omiokurigeinin Shinichi but he said "Who? No, it's someone way more famous." Some were are speculating it could be the Johnny's idol Yuya Tegoshi (who will be starring in the BL drama Bokutachinchi next month). But no one really knows.
I watched this and it was not what I expected, very underappreciated movie that just managed to cross my radar and definitely worth the watch. I will definitely check out more of Junji Sakamoto's work. If any of you have watched it let me know what you thought about it or if you have any recommendations of Sakamoto-san's work.
>>49964838
I liked it a lot. It has the same style as Crows Zero. There's even a cameo. The main leads though don't have that swag or charisma as delinquents.
>>49963121
It's an old movie but Yasujiro Ozu's "There Was a Father". The movie was released during WWII in the year 1942, and there were references to the Japanese imperial army and the war that got censored during the Occupation of Japan period, but fortunately most of the censored parts were restored in a new version released two years ago. I highly recommend you downloading it if you want to watch it
Hello, this is my first time on /jp/. Please be kind to me!
Recs for Japanese medical dramas?
Preferably not primarily other genres simply rocking a secondary medical theme, like Grey's Anatomy (primarily relationship/romantic/sex drama, hence why the audience was 80% female) or Scrubs (primarily a comedy). Something more serious, medicine should be the main theme or at least have equal billing, something like picrel.
>>49965185 >medicine should be the main theme or at least have equal billing
I don't think there's any like this in Japan. The plot must have dramatic elements, either relationships or corporate struggles, as the center point to make it interesting for the housewives watching at home. Serious medical theme won't draw ratings because it's boring for the average Taro and Kyoko.
Director Hosoda Mamoru, Okada Masaki and Ashida Mana received a 10-minutes-long ovation after the screening of their anime "Scarlet" at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival in Italy.

Last year Korekore exposed Einstein Inada for begging his female followers on Instagram for nudes. At the time Inada claimed that his account was unknowingly hacked and used to send the requests. Now over a year later a man has been arrested in connection to the hijacking of Inada's account and four others, so it appears he was telling the truth.
>>49967520
I don't think it did much to his career honestly, he's even on tour right now. Korekore didn't actually spread false info, it was true that Inada's account was sending the messages. And because Korekore reported on it, it was discovered this hacker had accessed 70+ people's accounts including 4 other celebrities. But Japan is a retarded country where you can be sued for defamation even if the content is true.

I watched Kotoko, good movie. It's not very cathartic and is mostly the same thing for the entire 90 minute duration, but it is a very realistic depicction of mental illness and Coccos acting was top notch.
>>49967945
I think Tsukamoto pushed the mental illness theme's boundaries with "Kotoko". His freneticism and Coccoโs laid-bare intensity form a delirious harmony. The film draws heavily from her own mental health struggles (she is also credited for the original story). One of the most brutal and horrifying depictions of mental illness ever put to film. And I always feel strangely at peace when the final scene ends.
Yamada Takayuki at Netflix 10th Anniversary "Creators' Spotlight" talk panel appeals for better treatment of Japanese actors; asking for better payment.
ใ >"I wish Japanese actors could get a bit more pay too. Since the CEO is here today, I'll say it directly." Yamada prefaced his remarks by acknowledging, โOf course, Netflix offers better pay compared to other films.โ However, he added, โStill, Japanese actors, including their agencies, often feel they have to rely on corporate commercials.โ He expressed his desire for actors to โearn that kind of money through their main profession, using the skills they've honed.โ "I'm not comparing Japan to other countries, but it's just...cheap!" he declared bluntly. โOf course, improving creativity is a fundamental prerequisite for that,โ he continued earnestly. โBut having some level of guarantee at the outset also helps motivate peopleโit's human nature. I see this as a challenge we face.โ

Sure, if most Japanese actors are as talented as Yamada, but most of them are talentless and can't act for shit. Actors from other countries attend acting schools and study for years, but in Japan, actors, and especially young actors, are easily appearing in movies and dramas solely because they're good-looking or they're from powerful talent agencies regardless of how drizzling shit their acting is.
