Which Touhou manga/print work artist is your favorite?
Anonymous No.50116794 >>50119498 >>50125807
I'm a fan of Ginmokusei. Reimu picking up the unconscious Meiling and off cuff slapping her won me over, it's a very brazenly Reimu thing to do. I've picked up some of her other stuff, physical when I can but I'll buy digital if I have to. Her Wakasagihime comic was really cute, and I really wish she'd do a follow up to 幻想少ε₯³η™Ύθ― because I think it's my favorite work of hers.
She doesn't put out that much these days. She did a short manga recently and occasionally does skeb commissions, but to my knowledge she's been mostly keeping off the internet since she was targeted for harassment. Really unfortunate stuff.

What can I say, I like cute fluff. Take it easy!

She seemed to get better at drawing as time went on but the fact that she had to stop because of some obsessed stalker was really unfortunate.

I love her style, it's elegant in a way that I think fits the generally bishoujo character design of most 2hus, it feels very shoujo influenced.

Shows that Touhou works really well with action. Wonder which other artists ZUN could get that are good at it.

i'm reading through Strange Chameleon's stuff right now. it's neat, i like it. this koishi one is really good. i like when she cries on the next page and vanishes amongst the flittering rose petals.

yes, i am aware. op didn't say official and we just had a multi-month long azmaya thread. personally i'm looking for people to share doujins they like rather than the the monthlies everyone is already reading that we have release threads for or argue that cds has gone downhill since the artist swap or LE is boring or whatever.

That's sad, I really liked her work on Touhou, definitely the best guest artist on an official game.
I'm always afraid of artists I enjoy just disappearing off the face of the earth, the thought is just kind of sad. Doesn't help that Japanese artists have a terrible habit of going scorched earth on their prior work whenever they're having a bad day.

I wonder if Moe will ever come back to the series. Would love to see her return for a fighting game at least, Yousei Daisensou style guest artist role would also be really cool.

That's why you should always support your favorite artists, you never realize how much you'll miss them until they're gone.
Moe is living her best life in Gensokyo now.

Harukawa Moe, she is a good artist who don’t insert her own idea in Touhou too often, other artist fell into the trap that is β€œI can add whatever I want here”
That’s why FS felt like the most canon Touhou to me, it follow ZUN idea closely and not deviating away too much. Azmaya is influenced heavily by her yuribrain, Akimaki love making everything edgy, Mizutaki is style > substance

So far as I'm aware, we don't actually know how much artistic liberty ZUN gives his mangaka. It could be as extensive as full scripts with full descriptions of every character and what they're doing in any given panel (which is incredibly unlikely for several reasons), or he could be pulling a Toriyama and simply sends a loose plot outline with key points and lets the artist fill in the blanks (also unlikely but less so).

we do know exactly how much artistic liberty ZUN gives. We've known for at least a year ever since mizutaki displayed the original manuscripts for like half of Lotus Eaters.

A lot, Azmaya is an avid ReiMari artist and sometime it show

It is a known fact that ZUN left the visual entirely for the artist to do, except when he wanted something to be in a particular way. That is the reason why in LE we get random Aunn cameo for example

That's good to get confirmation on. It wasn't that long ago that the topic was hotly debated, despite evidence for lax visual artistic liberties (see: Lily Black and Lily White in the same shot in SSiB).

>Mizutaki is style > substance
What does that even mean? He's an artist, his substance is style...

I really like Azmaya's coloring style, probably my favorite from any of the manga. Good thing she does do artbooks.

Alright, I'm going to need a definitive answer, which official artists are guys and which are girls? I feel like I'm seeing people jump between pronouns on some of them.

Azuma Aya, Moe Harukawa, Ginmokusei, and Aki Eda are women. Makoto Hirasaka, Mizutaki, and Akimaki Yuu are male.

Got it, thanks anon. I thought WaHH's artist was a guy for some reason.
Anonymous No.50142391
>>50141520
Like that other guy said.
You can also kind of tell just by the way they draw, or at least what they include in their drawings. Most of the women artists pretty much focus on making the girls look pretty in that shoujo kind of way, with very little focus on giving the characters curves or something like that.
Hirasaka draws fairies wearing swimsuits and skintight american flags also he drew a loli h-doujin under a different name for FGO, Mizutaki draws whaletits and Akimaki Yuu overdoses on shounen action.
Obviously not a super clear cut comparison but it generally holds true, the girls draw less action and more pretty girls and the guys either draw action or lean more toward sexy girls.

Do you guys own any works from the official 2hu artists, either official media or fan works they've done on the side? Physical or digital?
I've got both of Ginmokusei's art collections and an Azmaya art book. I've always wanted an official fanbook but one has never fallen into my hands.
