Personally speaking, I had my own AInniversary exactly a week ago, I made picrel in October 18th 2024 and it was the first AI image I had ever made. but I'll ask it anyways: How far have the rest of you come in a year, if you've been genning for that long? If not, then when did you start? Did you also save your first image? Having been here since the start as the OP for most of these threads, I feel like I'll already know some of the answers to these questions from having seen our current regulars join and improve, but I'd still like to hear it from the source.

Lastly, if I could just self-indulge a little, I just wanted to say that I feel very proud of being the OP for this community (even if in reality all that really means is I post a new thread when the current one hits page 10, something literally anyone else could do), not just because these threads are generally very welcoming and relaxing, but also because I feel like our genners improve a lot and they do it very quickly. I look at the content that gets posted in here and, once in a blue moon, compare it to other threads or as some call it, "the network", lol, and we always come out on top, not just because the images themselves look nicer, but because I can often see the effort you all put in your gens, and in that, and that alone, other generals don't even come close. Is this just bias? Probably, but I'll allow myself to be prideful just this once. Here's to another year of sloppa, AInons.

I remember being amazed at that as well and now I feel the same way about video generation, I'm seeing some crazy stuff get made with it nowadays... I think earlier this year the topic of video generation came up and I said that, judging by the speed at which image generation improved, it'd take 1-2 years for animations to catch up, definitely an underestimation.

The main tank design offenders are the Brotherhood of Nod ranging from minor things like the Light Tank's unit picture being that of a Bradley (which doesn't match the actual sprite at all), the Nod Stealth Tank being an armoured car and whatever the fuck the Devil's Tongue Flame Tank is... listen I really like flame tanks and I get that they needed to make it clear and visible from the small crunchy sprites what unit it was but holy fuck that is such a bad tank design from both an aesthetic and practicality perspective.
But the biggest offenders are actually GDI with the Mammoth tank combining both quad tracks AND double barrels the two biggest fictional tank design pitfalls

Is meant to take place in an alternate WW2 where Einstein used his Hakai technique on Hitler resulting in WW2 being between the Allies and the Soviets yet it reuses assets from Tiberian Dawn (a game meant to be contemporary to the year it was released) so the Allies have M1 Abrams & Apache attack helicopters. The Red Alert universe is meant to be a bit more fun so the technology gets real wacky with stuff like the Tesla Tanks. Honestly Rika would be at home here

Again they are awesome, but a bit jank considering this was before Starcraft came along and codified stuff like right clicking and unit spell menus. In C&C you use the primary mouse button for everything and unit abilities are activated by double clicking the unit themselves. So a lot of micromanaging is required at times, my dad was quite fond of taking advantage of this to go order the tanks to squash all my infantry before I could react and get them out of the way. The unrelated spiritual successor to this would be Men of War: Assault Squad 2 where I played one of the scenario missions where you have to clear it with a small squad of paratroopers and lost half the paratroopers right at the beginning because I didn't realise you had to manually tell your units to go prone and they couldn't do it themselves. So I had to claw victory very very slowly and carefully by hijacking enemy equipment and fighting in small hit and run engagements to bolster my strength and thin the enemy down enough for when the mission permitted me to call in reinforcements whereupon it was a clean sweep

This was a local model (WAIv12), but I can kinda see what you're getting at.

I figure it's due to how I prompt and how the model handles the quality, as I notice when I'm trying to make comic style gens I'm in need for more "expressive" poses and not a whole lot of reliance on quality. But the AI can't do it naturally without extensive prodding.

There was a noticeable drop in quality in v13 for me. v14 is apparently better, but apparently requires some changes in prompting methods/style that I've yet to get off my ass to look into. And v15 is apparently a similar situation to v13.

v12 has continued to serve me well and unless some character comes out that's too recent for v12 data and for some reason can't be supplemented with a LoRA will probably still be my default until I either dig into v14 or WAI releases a version that's just drastically better overall.

Well, about that, you were probably able to tell, but I was the anon in that thread who both pitched and came up with the religion idea (though for a long time my accepted headcanon was that she used fuel, but had run out after SoEW and was forced to lay low until the SFW incident happened), there are still a lot of things I need to look into for this "religious engineer" theory to make a bit more sense, though. For starters, Reimu used Sumiyoshi for the Moon Rocket, which makes sense within the context of Gensokyo. Within that same context, I don't have any issues in saying that a genius like Rika would arrive at the same logical conclusion that "diety = fuel". It might seem illogical to us, but for an engineer that lives in Gensokyo, their logic might be a little different. The thing I'm currently stuck on is, which diety would Rika even use for tanks? And what about for summoning the bakebake?
I'm also stuck on how I'm going to adapt her current personality into a more religion-incorporating one, but that's my own issue to deal with.

My personal lore is that Rika’s Bakebakes are just lifelike drones. Bakebakes were her standard model until a field test of a tank one day inadvertently landed her in Makai, where she had a run-in with, among others, YuugenMagan. Her visage inspired Rika, so she went back and restandardized her drones into Evil Eye Drones. She also developed the idea for Evil Eye Sigma after that trip. Just, try and resist the trap. I dabble in various gacha every now an then and even dipped into LW birefly for waifu reasons, but it's not worth it. So yes that's exactly how they try and trap you.
LW is about as basic bitch of a gacha as it gets with little redeeming qualities with its very rough story, standard egregious monetization for what little there is, and some very clear cut popular character favoritism for whale pandering. The story is bad, the systems are a mess, the menus are a mess, the organization for everything is a mess, the combat systems are a mess despite being incredibly simplistic in function thanks to a lack of clear cut information and organization.
It would just be any run of the mill gacha that dies in a year or two if it didn't have touhou hard carrying it. (I sure seem to love the word mess here.)
If it was a higher effort gacha with less typical japanese gacha greed I would maybe tolerate it more, but it's actually quite sad it seems to be so popular among the younger audience in Japan and their main source of interaction with the franchise.
