>Boar gets obliterated by a rifle before I can shoot it. Bullet went right through it and then hit a tree near me.
> for a short while I can't see any other person.
>Someone runs up, "sorry I didn't see you there."
>Lucky to be alive.

Story 3
>Visiting family in a different state.
>Walking near a lake with a cousin, mud everywhere.

>Shame I couldn't stop him from becoming a degenerate.

Story 4

Picrel is my kit. Some basics you'll want are:
> Bug spray and more importantly Sage incense (keeps bugs away better than deet)
> Sleeping pad (insulates your warm body for the MASSIVE heat sink that is the floor)
> 1qt saucepan (for cooking) and tinfoil (use as a lid)
> Sawback machete and gloves (cutting firewood)
> Candle nubs (firestarters)
> Chemical water purifier and container the size of the measured purifier amount

>pack that will allow me to survive indefinitely.
That's the problem, your gear will not last indefinitely, esp. if you ever make a mistake in using or maintaining them. For this level of self-sustainability you will hsve to be able to make your own clothes and shoes, make soap out of ash lye and animal fat etc.

An axe may last you a lifetime, but a saw probably won't. You will grind through a couple of knives during 40+ years of wilderness life where you have to make nearly everything from scratch... Think you can fit a lifetime supply of boots and soap and sleeping bags and water purifying tabs into a backpack?

There is nothing that lets you do that, real life isn't a videogame. Or I guess
>and never need to have to come back out?
Well you can go innawoods bareass naked with a pistol and zero other supplies and indeed "never come back out" lol. Course you won't be doing anything else in there except being food for the ecosystem either.

>noguns here, why don't hunting camo and military camo look alike? I mean, it's both for hiding in brushes right?
You've had a few replies but none really get to the heart of the matter: military camo is vs humans, in multiple environments and on the move where you can't always pick and choose your background. It must be effective at many distances (both actual distance change and virtually since said humans may be equipped with scopes/binoculars). Humans are big on pattern/shape recognition, and whether something is "out of place". So military camo tends to be built around the idea of breaking up shape with semi-fractal designs that work when you examine them more or less closely, and make it harder to pick out individuals and do sizing and such even when moving on varied backgrounds.

Whereas hunter camo is designed vs animals, who have different visual systems. The hunter gets to choose their environment and specific hide and sit still.

Just comes down to different problems driving different solutions.

Anon... if it was that easy, logistics wouldn't be the major deciding factor in warfare. There's a big reason why agriculture took over the world the moment it was introduced.

Even still, knowledge is key. Edible plant books can be useful for knowing the basics but won't be very useful for your area. Look for local edible plant walks in your region. Take notes and experiment with the best ways to fulfill nutrition, but realize you're asking for something that's *very* hard to do

It'd help if that guy specified what he meant. If we're being realistic, choose the right area, route, etc, then I guess it would certainly be quite doable to last some number of weeks to a month fairly easily for someone younger, fit and knowledgeable and with the right resources to sink into it. I've done that myself twice. On the longer one I did the basic old expedient of making use of water (same as explorers of yore), if you have a kayak/canoe you can take enormously more mass much longer distances. It takes planning for portage between rivers/streams and an area that has such water networks of course, but you can go quite deep and setup.

If I Had to piss, Id piss into a Bush
If I had to shit, Id go for a 10-60min drive (depending on where i was at for the night, i had multiple areas i suited for rest) to some gas station. there's a few times I shit in the forest but I didnt like chancing the odds of a mushy shit that would smear and stink.

>How did you shower
For awhile I didnt, I wetted a rag and washed myself with it. I didnt smell nearly as bad as almish or a druggie so most people didnt look at me like i was a hobo. I cleaned my clothes in restroom and resturant sinks, I used their soap and it worked well enough, but to avoid walking around with bags full of wet clothes i focused on stains or armpits not the entire item.
>What did you do for work
I was a security gaurd with a few locations through Kansas and Missouri. 4 days when I worked Id charge my phone in a company car along with 6 mobile batterys, a plasma lighter I used for fires and a flashlight. 3 days id explore to try and find more suitable locations for sleeping.

No need to be sorry, it was one of the most rewarding times of my life and I like to think I learned many things then, But I digress.

picrel is what I work to work with a chest holster for my 92fs, a Gen1IOTV dyed Black. No plates, just kevlar. ID tag and a generic hat that said security. took the photo at the time to see how put together I was which was something i needed alot.

in a few places I used that hat afterwork just so people wouldn't talk/ask me questions about me being in strange places, the bystander effect is awesome.

The trucker stations and gyms do have showers, but memberships cost money. Doing what I did wasnt Convenient but it was free, plus I could do it as soon as I wokeup without a drive through the city.

>Tissue Paper!
yea, it's biodegradable, but at the same time it's not going to degrade unless there's activity. where I would camp or most of the time only laydown my cot to rest would be sanctioned woodland or nature reserves, One of my favorite places was an abandoned cement factory that nature was taking over that could only be accessed by a drive used by the local school bus drivers to store their busses and maintenance vehicles.
I didn't want to litter. It's not all that smart to leave behind things that make others dislike you, those bus drivers knew I was living out there in those woods for weeks at a time before sleeping somewhere else but if I ever saw them as I was driving back onto the gravel road They would only wave at me as I went by. I don't mess with their shit/fuck up their scenery and they don't call the cops on me. I think it's a pretty fair agreement. Just dont be an asshole, I had pockets, I dumped the trash nextime I needed to shit and refilled my gallon thermos.

>Cost of living/income
Its more explained in my previous responses but I worked many locations as a security gaurd and thr cost of living was about $300 A week. I spent alot more on things like energy drinks, But water refills are free if you dont get ice so i didnt need to spend as much as I did. I drove alot and thats the biggest cost, I ate tuna and mixed fruits out of cans since i didnt want to carry pots/pans. Id charge my electronics or rest at fast food joints and buy a cheap food item or drink and order togo to get a bag for the small thing but then sitdown at a table near an outlet, the bag made it obvious I was a paying customer so they wouldn't get pissy.

I probably will some day, but life is pretty crazy these days. Canโ€™t complain though, itโ€™s busy with a good school career, interviews for good jobs, a wife, and house hunting. Iโ€™ve barely had time for hobbies, maybe the range every month or so. For now Iโ€™m just trying to through together a car camping trip with the wifey, but our days off are always opposite. Not to mention I live innadesert so most of the year is too hot to just pop out for some outdoors time, I have drive 3 hours north to find trees and suitable weather.

Smart to have a orange bike reflector-- to help you not get shot in the back. Read LETTERS OF ELMER KEITH. He had a buddy shot and killed by another "friend" while hunting (he was a pack guide). He wrote a letter to the family and explained best he could. Very sad.

I tried to use a pup tent camping one time (central Texas, summer) and was wise enough to get a bug/mosquito net to put in it before I used it. Went camping with friends, woke up and the entire net was covered in wolf spiders. Literally everywhere between the net and the tent itself. Never wanted to use it again after that, I like having my space void of bugs

Back during the summer of 1986 (yeah I'm old) me and my best friend spent most weekends camping and fishing. Normally we went to State parks (where the girls were) but his Uncle had a bunch of acreage with a huge pond which is where we ended up going late one Friday night due to the closest park being full. While hiking back we can hear people laughing and see a fire (there wasn't supposed to be anyone there according to his Aunt). Lo and behold it's a group of girls drinking and playing what turned out to be a combo of strip poker and dare. Our first thought was to go introduce ourselves but instead we watched. Within the hour 3 of the 4 girls were topless and one was nude except for the panties. They all then decided to go skinny dipping but that stopped once they started to sink into the soft banks. They all got dressed but went back to playing cards. We decided to go over and meet them. As we walked into camp we asked permission to enter (typical thing to do). They ALL started screaming but calmed down soon enough. One girl was the daughter of the next door neighbor and the others were her friends. We ended up sharing their fire for a while but once we let them know we saw them in the buff one girl got real defensive and demanded us to leave(which we did). We went to the side we were on originally and put up our tent. The next morning all the girls were gone but their stuff remained. We spent all day Sat fishing, some drinking, wondering when they were going to come back for their stuff, and generally wtf. It rained really hard that night and our gear got wet so we packed out everything except the tent and sleeping bags at like 2 in the morning. We went back Sunday to finish breaking camp and 2 of the girls were there, at our camp (there's was down). They wanted to take pictures of us for some reason. After that they went over to where their car was (other side of the pond, where they camped) and flashed us. They then took off never to be seen again.

One time me and my friend were out shooting these huge twin I-Beams we found sticking out of the river. And mind you, we were in the middle of nowhere and deep in the woods, so this looked quiet peculiar. Anyways were shooting the good old chinky stinky steelcore, and we were about 20 m away. Couple of rounds in and out of nowhere I felt this intense pain on my shin, akin to being slashed by a strong hockey player. I look down and I see a hole in my pants around my shin, picrel. Miraculously it didn't go any deeper and punch through my leg, nearly glanced off and left a little bruise. From that moment on we decided that's it's not a good idea to shoot steel from this close of a distance, and we hiked on. Couldn't find the slug :/

Don't have a story but I'll be out in CT for the summer, bumming out in some state forest. Unfortunately I'll be noguns and it'll be reliant on local infrastructure in the food sense since its less camping and more being homeless and trying to live and get a job while also living in the woods. Will build a sick shelter though. Wondering what I should do since it'll be long term and when not working I'll be in the woods.

Yep. Same experience. Packed camp and left the next morning. Also combined with some hoots, deliberately loud foot steps snapping sticks, and LOW growling. I wasnโ€™t scared once I knew what was going on, I was also armed.

The other time wasโ€ฆ disturbing. Not scary, just unbelievable. Something that I think back to frequently since. I was in the mountains west of Bonners Ferry Idaho near Kent Peak.

>Alpine meadow near the tree line.
>gigantic wild blueberry patch
>signs of recent bear activity, I donโ€™t blame them
>iโ€™m crouched down on the meadow-side of the blueberries. Behind me are the peaks
>I hear heavy breathing and quick steps that donโ€™t sound 4-legged
>still think it could be bear, draw revolver and wait.
>iโ€™m down wind as the wind is coming up the valley
>through the bush I see a huge dark shape, brain thinks its a bear at first, but then I see it reaching and picking berries with an appendage. I can see glimpses of its face.
>the wind changes and it snaps its eyes and face RIGHT AT ME.
>After maybe a second it stands up and walks away quickly. It doesnโ€™t run. Just walks really freaking fast.

Poster of that story here.

Wood knocking is associated with the heckin bigfoot. Myakka is known for being the wilderness where the mythic skunk ape supposedly lives.

My theory on it is this, whatever made those noises whether person, great ape or big foot analog, was probably surprised that a camp was set up out there in the summer and they probably smelled me before even seeing the camp and use wood knocking as a warning to others that something is out of the ordinary.

No one hikes out there in the summer, I was literally the only person out there in that big ass forest. I've camped more times than I can remember in FL including a week in the Everglades and I've never heard those noises in the wild, literally only on history channel bigfoot episodes. If I really had to hazard a guess, it was hobos like the rainbow children. On the other end of possibilities, it's a regular great ape that was someones exotic pet that got dumped out there, FL is ground zero for that type of bullshit behavior.

Went to a national park that was snowed in. The snow plow had covered half the parking spots and you couldn't park anywhere. Saw some dude trying to dig out a spot with his hands for his car. So I took out my etool, dug out the snow bank, and drove on top of the snow.

Used it to dig cat holes for BLM camping.

Doesn't get used a lot, but when it does it's worth its weight (for car camping).

Had to carry it for humps and don't really recall using it.

>Previous week or two I almost had to shoot a neighbors dog, it was off leash and full sprinted towards my gf and her dog, drew my pistol and held it in it's face until it's owner picked it up a couple minutes later
>Me and her scared of dogs ever since, nightmares etc. Gf had a nightmare about a dog even before the incident
>Was walking back from my car after work in the middle of the day while she was out teaching college kids, heard something weird
>Some combination of a hand saw and a dog growling far off into the woods, sounds far away and close at the same time, very loud
>Stand there for a minute figuring out the situation because her shitty door lock would leave me vulnerable while I figure out how to open it
>Sudden loud band right next to me on the opposite side of where I thought the sound was
>Wait another minute before getting the courage to finally open the door, get inside and lock it
>4 sudden knocks across the outside of the house going down the external kitchen wall
>Our dog freaks out and whimpers like something bit it, runs around looking for a cause
>Minutes pass and dog wants out to piss, reluctant but ok
>Deliberate on leaving the door locked or not, decide unlocked is the best way to get back in if it gets weird outside, make sure door is closed
>Absolutely normal walk, come back to house, door wide open, which it can't be because I was deciding on locking it or not and knew it was closed

Gf is a clinical psychologist and diagnoses mental disorders and has seen some of the same shit with me, mostly poltergeist activity. We've had at least 3 objects get thrown in front of us since I moved in. Most recently we heard what we can only assume was a banshee from off next to the pond in the woods. Genuinely blood curdling scream like someone getting axe murdered. We both called the police but they didn't find anything off with the neighbors and no one else heard anything. One was outside the dry cabin of a woman whose husband had died about 2 years before, and after that she was having strange hairy man activity. Cabin wall slapped next to her bed at night, pebbles and pine cones thrown onto roof, she felt very intimidated and afraid. She was in her 80s living alone. Hard woman. We came to interview her, document tracks and check for territorial markers around her property. We were having dinner and she noticed the orb floating outside the window. We went outside and observed it slowly move away from the cabin into the trees. It had a soft off-white color and was between a golf ball and soft ball in size. Watched it for about 30s. Impression I got was it was curious why we were there. Found interesting trees woven on the property. No hairy man activity while we were there. We setup game cameras and ir lights and the activity fell off a bit, but we did catch an orb moving on video (about 5s) and strange mechanical clanking noises.
Second was a camp site at the end of a trap line trail next to a swamp. Same guy as the cabin was with me. This was a couple miles from my own hairy man encounters (ran into the same family group about 10 days apart). Found female hairy man tracks, could hear something that sounded like a mother coddling a baby, doing baby talk in the distance. After it got dark I decided to go for a walk with nv/thermal, as I was leaving camp I watched an orb appear over our low camp fire, when I noticed it I got the feeling it became aware I could see it and it zipped off about 25yds and disappeared. It felt curious. Very creepy spot and about half the time I go back there your hair stands up, adrenaline hits and skin crawls like something's staring a hole in the back of your head. During another visit i hiked further in from there to check out a couple small valleys, about hit a wall where I got the distinct impression that I should stop and immediately turn around.

Always trust your gut, anons

since everyone else is doing orb dits I'll tell mine

once on a hike with a group, we were setting up camp in the middle of a thunderstorm, absolute blinding rain, dogshit visibility
we were carrying heavy gear and supplies from our vehicle to the campsite through thick undergrowth, when my assigned buddy broke the cardinal rule of
>tell your buddy where you're going if you're gonna split up
so unbeknownst to me, he sat down by the tiny fire we'd got going and I was alone making my way back to the campsite from our vehicle, carrying the last load
now my friend is both the tallest in our group and wearing the only white T-shirt
so with the rain bucketing down, and me being a specky git and my glasses fogged up, all I saw in front of me was a blurry figure, who was tall and wearing a white shirt - or at least, it had a white torso
so I followed it into the brush, until suddenly it took a right turn into the thickest bushes, and in the opposite direction of the campsite
I stopped, yelled at "my friend" and asked him where the hell he was going, the site was this way
but it just went on and disappeared into the undergrowth
so I went in the other direction, to our campsite
and there I found my buddy

Not anything paranormal but I have had one or two kinda unsettling innawoods experiences. One time me and some buddies were camping. At the time noguns while out because pre-bruen commie state. As the sun was setting hear pack of coyotes going apeshit in the distance. Nbd. As the night goes on we were chilling around the small fire we had and heard them again from a different direction but closer. Later at about 2-3am I heard the pack going crazy again sounding about less than 100 yards from our site. Grab glock brand glock knife and sit in tent listening real closely. Thankfully they kinda all fuck off and nothing came of it. When back in cell service I read that coyotes don't really fuck with people but hearing the "laughing" that close to our tents made me pucker a bit.

The impression I got from the angel was that I'm already doing my best and that's good enough for a being of what seems like pure compassion and love. I only saw it when I was at my lowest low. Last time I encountered a demon or spiritual parasite I just told it to fuck off and it did. My takeaway is it's some sort of message about internal strength and living my life the best I can rather than external prayer or religion.

My buddy collects hairy man stories from the indigenous population and people that work in remote places. He knows I have nerves of steel so I come along for backup (plus you don't want to go into active areas on your own)
Probably the most distributing accounts for me are when the things kill people's dogs. They absolutely hate dogs. In one case a large male caught the guys dog, broke it's back and squeezed it to make it yelp and lure the guy into the brush. There were several more trying to flank the guy at the same time. He saw the dog, shot one of them in the chest with a 300wm, and ran.
In another case the guys dog had disappeared the night before so he went to look for it, crossed a slough and found some fur from the dog, then spotted more pieces in the brush. Went into the brush and one of these things threw a thigh at him. He ran, it followed him back to the cabin and he sold the cabin shortly afterwards.

They also seem to enjoy torturing people, especially women, with cabin slaps, punches, vocalizations. Especially new construction or noisy mining equipment, they'll destroy the equipment or the structure being built. Grouchy and autistic.

It grunted and fell back into the brush. It wasn't there when he went back about 3 weeks later but 2 of the walls of his cabin were collapsed and everything inside was thrown into the yard. The inside had urine and feces.

There have been several harvested but the feds find out and recover the remains through coercion. I know of 1 body that was taken in the 90s and is allegedly floating around somewhere. The natives only shoot as a last resort and vacate the area. When they are mad it's not something you stick around for. They are never alone so taking a shot in some cases ends up with people going missing or found folded up, stuffed in a tree. Missing persons cases are never closed here so you can't FOIA the files.

Never understood the yank obsession / fear of weight. I've carried a 1954 full wood nugget 30 miles with a couple hundred rounds in my pack last time I was out in the boonies pig shooting, No dramas. Just chuck it on your shoulder FFS.

And I'm sure they magically sense game cameras and have never once walked in front of one, or if they have then government agents were the ones to magically sense it and immediately flew out in black helicopters to confiscate the footage.

They seem to have excellent situational awareness, I'd assume they can smell game cameras in a similar manner to bears on a bait station. Some speculate they may be able to see slightly into the infrared band and can spot NIR motion sensors on some game cams.
I know of one person who had all of their devices confiscated in the field and they were threatened with de-banking and foreclosure if they didn't destroy or hand over everything. Another person was paid close to 7 figures for their footage. Both were coerced to sign NDAs and deny everything.
There is legit footage out there. I've seen some, very clear & close. Not that fake Todd standing makeup. It has to be handled very delicately to avoid that negative attention.

How does get started doing something like this? I live near the desert, though, not the woods. Do you have to worry about people stealing your car?

Generally most people in most places aren't actually scumbags who'll fuck with your car if you leave it somewhere, especially if it's in a place frequented by other people who would see them. If you're worried though, you can pull the fuse to the engine computer or the ignition on your car or unplug the distributor or something under the hood (if your car is old enough to still have one). A thief isn't going to go through the trouble of diagnosing a mystery electrical issue and probably just leave it alone. Though you might wanna have a jump pack or something in the trunk just incase you come back to a dead battery.

As far as the desert thing, idk I've never really been out to that kinda climate to know what major differences in considerations besides the obvious of sun protection and extra water.

It depends on what you mean by desert. If you mean relatively arid scrub highlands and pinion/juniper forests found around the western US, then it's not that much different from the woods except you'll have to pre-plan your water draws for longer trips. If you're talking barren desert, then it's more challenging. You would most likely have to pack in all of your water, and in the summer you would have to travel mostly at night. Packing enough water for two days is doable. Three days is pushing it. For longer trips, you're going to have to cache water ahead of time or plan your route carefully to cross known reliable water draws at the right time.

Other than that, it's a good idea to get some basic outdoor skills like land nav and basic survival, then you just pick a place, plan a route, and start walking.

I know people who did exercises in woods with mass graves in poland and saw lines of people staring at them that were visible under NV that were not there in, bad enough that the whole exercise was canceled one guy who was sorrounded by them reaching out and trying to touch him lost his marbles and wound up in a strait jacket
