Engineer here. Trying to commission and get out after my initial contract.
Was looking at Air Force OTS, but not only is it picky as fuck, but apparently the pipeline is so backed up that candidates are waiting over a year to go to OTS even after being selected. That’s like 1/4th of a contract, so not time efficient for someone like me trying to get out after 4 anyways.
I’ve given up on doing engineering or anything cool in the military as an officer because all the good jobs are piled with candidates, have 6+ year initial commitments, or makes people wait 2 years before they get their first paycheck.
So what’s a stupid easy officer job (in any branch) where I’ll ship quick, won’t work much, and hopefully be stationed at a base that doesn’t suck? I’m open to any branch, even Coast Guard.

>>63791515Firstly, let me discuss aviation. On the Navy side you may actually qualify for Immediate Select (i.e. your application is automatically accepted without the need of the "board" to go through and scrutinize your package) for SNA (student naval aviator) if you meet the following criteria: https://www.mynavyhr.navy.mil/Portals/55/Career/OCM/PA-106_OCS_Pilot_and_NFO_Mar-2025.pdf?ver=4Yhw9q19N6qMUTOE6obCoA%3D%3D
(linked is the PDF file that gives the break down of what qualifies you for I-select. In your case, the main points you'd have to hit are getting a good score on the ATSB+OAR--the "asvab" for officers plus the aviation portion--and not having medical waivers). This comes with a 6 year commitment.
Secondly, regarding the direct commission engineering officer for CG, the information is as follows: https://www.gocoastguard.com/get-started/eligibility-requirements?program=c02d4fce-9b52-4143-89d7-28e5d4205a04#reqs (just click the engineering officer box if that doesn't automatically do it for you). DCE's are sent to specialize in one of the three options--Naval Engineering, Civil, or Tech--and that specialty will be assigned to you based on what the CG will think you excel at (in your case its a 70/30 split leaning Naval but with a chance at Civil). I see you qualifying for this as well unless you have any major medical/tattoo issues. The reason why you'll work very hard as a DCE is that you WILL be operating as a project manager (as previously mentioned you will probably be a naval engineer) for your first 2 billets and you WILL be directing contractors--I just classify this as "more work" since many of these decisions will be coming from yourself as the sole leader/manager unlike being a junior aviator where many of the decisions are made for you (but obviously you'll still need to fly a plane). This is also a 6 year commitment IIRC.
>>63791515>>63795046Regarding bases, I (assuming you'll be either an Aviator or Engineer in the Navy/CG respectively) only put Navy/CG as the top of the list since you'll 100% be on a coast line instead of the myriad of dogshit middle America Army/Marine purgatory zones.
YMMV on which coastal port you get but they're all going to be better then Fort Hood so count your lucky stars.

>>63799520If you're speaking only about OCS difficulty (the actual event, not the process of getting into CG OCS) then your answer is that it is easier the CG boot camp physically but you'll be expected to be more scrutinized based on how those around/"under" you are performing (as the entire idea is that you are training to be a leader and what makes your group look good is more important then how good you make yourself). Very few people are dropped (medical issues being the chief reason) as the instructors there are TRYING to help you pass unlike bootcamp where a lot of the early weeks are "weeding" time.
Hahaha fuck you mother fuckers I'm finally free. I finally fucking ETS'd from this bullshit yesterday hahaha
>>63799520Hey fellow CG enthusiast
I am on round 3 trying to get in. my recruiter told me that my last officer panel graded me "superb". Also, you can recycle panel results if you are happy with their notes. I did that last round. Apparently, the average to get in is between 3-5 rounds. FFS. It has now been 13 months total since I reached out.
>>63799582Good info anon. What I am worried about is the 450m swim test. Everything else they require is typical and do-able. That 450 though....damn. I strongly am considering putting in a packet for Navy OCS because it's not DHS, you can be sneaky and have 2 packets at the same time. IF the CG just strings me along

>Kids just don't have any hope for the future short term so they might as well join the army. Aka, the job market / housing market aka the recession. Young men are now saving up money to rent apartments like it’s a fucking down payment on a house. You can’t even move out unless you have a decent job or 4 roommates anymore. Joining the Army now is (ironically) the best way to get pussy fresh out of highschool if you don’t want to have car sex. At least you’re out from under your parents’ roof and can try to sneak bitches on base.
>If things get better in a few years they have the GI bill to get a degree. Right now there's no sense of direction for the future. It’s the same as it’s always been except an apartment costs an entire monthly paycheck at McDonald’s, undergrad college is a 6 figure product, and the military is now somehow the best paying gig for an 18 year old retard.

No. Even community college costs thousands anymore. I really don’t have an answer for young people now.
The college I graduated from (state flagship uni) costs $35k a year out-of-state + living expenses. So roughly $60k. That’s $240k for an undergrad. In-state is still like $15k, so like $30k with living expenses. So $120k for an undergrad.
I got no advice. I’m military. My shit was free.

I want to be an air force drone operator (1U0X1, not officer/pilot). I'm almost 30 with a family and a BA. I'd rather not fuck up my body too much more, especially my knees, since I've got some previous injuries. And I'm hoping too avoid long training. It seems it's only about two months, including basic.
Is it competitive these days? Feasible with national guard? I'm guessing they're going to rapidly scale up drone operators.

>And I'm hoping too avoid long training. It seems it's only about two months, including basic.Basic is 2 months in itself. Tech school isn’t really physically intensive but you have to pass your PT tests.

I dunno. It’s already big career field, but it is the future. I don’t know if they’re up scaling the drone field at this exact moment. All that matters is what the Air Force is doing in the present fiscal year.

>>63801563I would not go into the Air Force with only one job in mind. You do NOT get to pick which job you want and ship with it (unlike the Navy, CG, or Army). You make a ranked list of ~14ish jobs and typically expect to get any job between ranks 1-10. This job is typically harder to book since it’s an air crew position (the jobs everyone wants since you wear the flight suit). IIRC sensor op is also combined with another AFSC called AMO in which you’ll be on an actual air plane on a computer—it’s like a 50:50 on which you’ll get. Either way I’d talk to an Air Force recruiter since they’d know which jobs are available as there is a good chance yours is not. The base you’ll be sent to (probably creech) does suck major ass but that’s the price you get with being in the cushy Air Force. This job does also involve killing people (guided munitions) so if that isn’t your cup of tea I just want you to be aware of it.
Also you aren’t talking about FLYING the actual drone right? That’s a commissioned officer position so I’m assuming you’re talking about enlisting.

I've put a lot of thought into what degree(s) to get from where and have arrived at an MBA next, but that's just my current plan rather than a foregone conclusion.MBAs are worthless without a plan. If you don’t know why you want an MBA, don’t get one. My cousin got an MBA because his company offered to pay for it, and they promoted him right after he finished it. That’s the kind of shit an MBA is good for. Or a school with clout on your resume, like Stanford. It’s also good for networking, but if you get an MBA at fucking WVU or some bullshit, you’re networking with future used car salesman. Big whoop.
>I was aiming for University of Washington, so like T25 if that makes much of a difference. I’m not sure UofW has enough clout to fucking mean something unless, like I said, you’re trying to advance a career you already have. But for example, they did a huge test of the air raid sirens in a bit coastal city I happened to be in. I asked around after. Last minute warning, and it was the first time, ever. Nobody had even heard a siren in person before.
I met a few PLA soldiers, too. Even rank and file are being trained to stand in ferries.
Then there's blood drives. They're more careful after Ukraine about letting things slip like that, but there's been a quiet move to get more people to donate. Chinese don't really donate blood, on average.
Of course, there's the two yearly strait operations they do now. You can see that in the news. Like clockwork, and they do it bigger every time, surround the island. Always at the two same periods of the year when the crossing is favorable. And every single week, they're sending sorties through the island's airspace, and it's increased a lot.

My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.

>>63814156>so If I go from National guard to active duty Army via rotc I can probably get my commitment waved? It’s not waived. It’s conditionally released so that you can continue to serve as a commissioned officer. Army guard to Army officer happens all the time. It’s not a big deal, and your command might even be required to release you by Big Army (not sure though).
>But for instance If do active duty air force rotc most likely I would need to complete my obligation. You would need a signed conditional release from your commander, and, hypothetically, they can deny it I think. However, unless your commander hates you, he’ll probably sign it. It’s not a big deal and happens a lot. Just don’t be a shitbag on your guard duties.
>would an inter service transfer be possible?Army to Air Force as an officer? Short answer: No.
Long answer: Yes, the Air Force takes officer service transfers, but only for job slots they’re really struggling to fill. Which, right now, the Air Force is not struggling to fill any officer job slots, so the answer is basically no unless something really changes in the future and you get crazy lucky.

When I worked for a corpo analyst firm, we used to do it for market research, and occasionally sell it to a geopolitical think tanks. It came up a lot trying to sell low grade consumer electronics to niggers in Nigeria.

>>63816818>Not exactly. I’m debating this with my brother. He wants to commission but he’s in his 30s and has a good job so I told him he is retarded.Your brother can have a good job today and be unemployed tomorrow. Big whoop.
That being said, commissioning is itself a good job. The pay is pretty damn good (especially at O-3+), and you’re entitled to all the same benefits as the enlistoids. Healthcare, homeloan, GI Bill. No college fund for your son? You can give him your GI Bill after I think 7 years or something.
Your brother could commission, do 4 years, and then try to get his good job back at the end. He might even become a National Guard officer or something and pull like an extra $1,000 a drill. It’s not like he’s going to ruin his life being an officer. An O-1 makes more money than the median American.

>>63816992>so in most cases I should be able to get a conditional release? as far as I can tell I'm not a shitbag, at least junior enlisted wise.Yes, conditional releases so that you may *continue to serve* in some other capacity (like a commission) usually get approved. It’s unusual for them not to be approved. Is it technically possible for them to be denied? Yes, but this is the military. Nothing’s ever guaranteed, so just work towards what you want and hope it works out.

>>63817757>i want ground invasion, i want A10 strafes while humvees drive forward, i want to warIt’s not 1995 anymore. A $200 drone with plastic strapped to it can eliminate a platoon or disable a tank. Technology has made grunts obsolete. Grunts now exist to be relatively cheap cannon fodder and tools.
We can toss rockets 400mi and blow your dick off while you’re masturbating in a foxhole. If war kicks off with a near peer, you want to be as far from the action as possible. You wanna be the guy launching rockets from 2 countries away, not the dude marching through a field towards the border on foot.
Does anyone know what to do if a hwmv doesn't start? We have electricity, but turning the starter switch didn't do anything
>>63820516>>63820520The wait light turns on, and doesn't turn off. Turning the switch further does nothing, it makes no noise
>>63820531Slave it to another vic, try charging for a minute and starting. Check the PMCS tables, mark faults, bring to mechanics.
Could be the battery or alternator. In either case it's a little beyond 10 level to fix.
Is this just daily life at this point for you guys?

I was able to get in to the navy with a hearing waiver, but I'm still worried about failing the test at reception. Is it a dumb idea to try and cheat the test a little bit? I figure throwing in some extra clicks wont hurt.
oh my god israel is bombing iran aaaaaaah why couldnt i bet canadian what the fuuuuuuuck
>>63780236 (OP)How would you rank the combat arms from based to cringe? I'm kind of interested in armor or field artillery, but would like to learn more before deciding on a preferred method of killing.

>>63822283Idk about that but infantry stands head and shoulders above the rest in terms of how much cool shit an individual soldier can do in a career
>ranger regiment>sniper school>augmentee to SOF>direct frontline action, direct violence>shoot people in the face and body>SMUsAn armor crewman or artilleryman gets to shoot big guns and blow shit up, sure, but he doesn't have the wide variety of opportunities for violence that a ground pounder does.

Zoomies need to read up on history
>>63822283Artillery was the elite branch in the 1800s. Today it's where they send retards. Don't do it if you're enlisted. If you're commissioning it's making a comeback tho.
Tankers used to be boomer types. Mediocre, slightly dim normies convinced they were keyed. I think the modern generation is feeling a bit insecure, probably more autistic gamers from WOT hoping they're still relevant somehow.
Attack helicopters used to be a chill branch but they're the real obsolete branch.
Anti-air is the secretly high stress branch. You'll deploy a lot more than you think. The US farms out its anti-air guys all around the world for diplomacy. It's great if you're single. Avoid if you're married.
Infantry - well, you know. Infantry is probably eternal.
Whats your mos you dumb maggots
i am pleased with these developments, time to see if something actually happens this time though

>>63822743>in such manner where the entire IRGC leadership is killed and nuclear facilities deleted you guys are such giant fags for acting like this doesnt change things
>>63822765Not really, no. Israel has spawned the next wave of leaders, scientists and soldiers with its actions tonight; the geopolitical balance hasn't changed; and Iran's nukes are still safely buried under mountains.
