This 'general' is completely dead.
Every thread is just the same few autistic faggots endlessly circlejerking over esoteric armor specs of plates they've never seen IRL and will never wear or need. Then the only posts which aren't "NIJ 0.01101 XSAPI LIBA Special Threat III++" are aggressive poorfag spamming of useless infographics listing shit-tier chinese airsoft replica gear.
Fuck off and make your own body armor thread.
Fuck off to /toy/ and make your own airsoft thread.
Failing that, fuck off from /k/ and kill yourselves.
You are an actual cancer upon this board.
Good news! A US-China trade deal is tentatively reached and the tariffs will be significantly reduced. That means Militech, among other things, may soon be back on the menu.

Do I need to remind you that only a few months ago, there were entire days without a /gq/ thread at all? /bag/ died, /pfg/ died, and /gq/ was on life support until more topics were folded into these threads.
This isn't a /gq/ specific problem. Damn near every general only has a handful of posters. Look at /arg/. It's the same 25 people every thread.

>>63795048this, this thread died when you fags started arguing about armor specs about shit you don't even own
>>63795575what frequencies do you use?
i figure using the MURS bands is where the least traffic will be. i don't really care about the legality of transmitting on the wrong bands but i'd rather not shit up emergency lines or whatever.
Savotta is making a belt kit, but it's in a weird 3 piece belt, do you think it will be comfortable
>>63795910Crye blast belts were massively popular years ago, and I think they were 3 pieces held together by the belt.
>>63795671MURS is "safe" if you watch power. GMRS gets you more legal power but people will want a callsign on the high-power channels. GMRS callsigns are cheap, good for the whole family, and no test. You can use repeaters in the area to get more range.

>>63794902 (OP)With probably a riot summer coming up, what are actual scenarios in which youd overtly wear a PC in civil unrest or SHTF, and how much should that be dictating what the average /gq/ kit is?
Been thinking of this and what I'd actually carry that isn't just mirroring late GWOT SOF kits.
In addition to mags/coms/ifak I've thought way more medical, more general first aid, dispersion shit like of spray, airsoft smokes or flashbangs(probably useless), gas mask(backpack probably).
Maybe I'm retarded but I like gear and trying to keep alive dying general thanks
I need some good socks that can endure hikes and look okay in the office. Preferably wool and thick enough for mild winters (normally 20s-40s, occasionally dips below 0)
Any suggestions?
>>63797086Gas mask is important. Overt PC is risky because it makes you look like a combatant. Low-vis PE plates like the Hesco 3801LV could be useful, but if the ARPs are rolling green tips it can't help you. Think how you'll look in front of a jury if shit goes down Rittenhouse style.

>>63798353Somebody posted a detailed explanation of this in the recent GBRS Group thread.
Basically, the guys who started these Hypefag companies are boomers in their 40s and 50s. When they were young, before they joined the military in their late teens or early 20s, skating was the "cool" thing to do. When they were in the military, these guys lost touch with pop culture, so never had a chance to update their opinions on anything. After leaving the military, these boomers LARP as skaters, because they think it's still the ultimate "cool" thing.
They're really the ultimate consoooomers and trend-followers.

anyone got recs a nice horizontal TQ pouch for my belt. Seems like a nice way to carry an extra TQ.
was looking at the guerilla tactical pouch
>>63800008>industry is stale and nothing new is being developedNothing substantially new, sure. There tends to be roughly month long gaps between fads that people jump on. It was the super cheap 4SUS4s, then the SMSchizo HFXC for a while, then that Oneleaf thermal. Next move I think will be a Oneleaf-level price:performance thermal drone, or maybe someone takes one for the team and sees how the stuff in pic related works.
>republican president gives people sense of securityPolitical views aside, this should be the "calm waters" period where people prep. Ammo prices tend to go up when democrats make substantial gains. Only problem is that the tariffs (in the long term) will still price people out of workable Chinese gear, such as Emerson uniforms, Militech carriers / plates, Oneleaf thermals, Holosun red dots, etc. A deal has been reached that may get Militech back on the table, hopefully.
>reddit Ukraine spammers pushed people awayPushed people into discords, more like.
>every conversation devolves into nonsense about optics or armor plate qualityGuilty as charged! The armor industry, while historically advancing at a glacial pace, is not stale and new stuff comes out all the time. It's also (by far) the shadiest gun-adjacent industry and we've got a few guys here that have been around the block a few times and have seen the shit. In the last couple threads alone, we had the Hesco 3814 (which is a mediocre III++ that would have been very competitive twenty years ago), RMA (blegh) XRT, the cheap Fillin ceramic tile array plates from Russia, India crash coursing boron carbide / PE armor and driving right past Hesco, a bunch of random high-coverage stuff from Jinwudun, like two bullshit armor companies (Rook and another), I could go on.
>opticsNight vision and thermals especially, because they're cheat codes and it makes sense to talk about them in the greater scope of gear that /gq/ covers.
>>63798950Different mission sets and personal preference. Belt kits allow you to combine your first (immediate gear), second (fighting gear), and third (sustainment) line with a buttpack. You can carry a very large number of magazines with belt kits.
If you use your chest rig with a battle belt, you have two separate lines and can take your fighting gear off without removing your EDC / basic medical / hydration if that's how you have your belt set up. That makes it more complicated but also scalable.
Chest rigs are lower drag, higher speed, lower duration. Add belt + backpack and you can get duration back at the expensive of speed and drag.
Belt kits are higher drag, lower speed, higher duration. Easier all-in-one solution however..
>>63795575this was ultimately pretty useful and basically answered my questions.
also cool feature: you can transmit over the national weather service frequencies and it jams them on nearby radios. feels very illegal.
>>63801927>very illegalIllegal indeed, there hopefully isn't an 85yo elmer with too much time on his hands nearby.
>>63797086>What's an actual scenario where you would want a PCI live where the suburbs turn to rurals and I hate going into the city, although I do volunteer at a museum in the southern side. Being there if shit kicked off is the only reason I can brain out where I would want one, otherwise I have your modern chest rig & pack and blah blah. I wanna start building up a belt kit as my mainline gear, I'm starting to think they're the most versatile.
>>63801980>Being there if shit kicked off is the only reason I can brain out where I would want oneCurious as to the logistics of this. You're volunteering at the museum, how do you keep the platecarrier accessible if you're there? I assume trunk of car. IIIA soft is often more concealable and can be worn on you in more circumstances. This also depends on threat model.
>>63798304That's a nice setup. Is there a surveillance setup around the "walls" so to speak or is the expectation that there's no reasonable way in other than the roads?
Most neighborhoods aren't really built for defense, and it only takes a couple of minutes for modern McMansions to burn down, so I'd nonetheless be concerned about 2AM arson if riots got out of control. Fire extinguishers are a basic but often overlooked prep if you don't already have a bunch.
It would probably be helpful to group-fund a Mavic 2 Enterprise ($5k) so you have sky-based thermal to avoid flanks, but I don't know your layout.
>>63795910If the pads are exactly the right size and adjusted for the wearer's hips, it should ride perfect.
>>63797653Eagle's H-Harness.
>>63797699Nice setup! Pic is an older one of my rig.
>>63798950Depends on your mission/larp but decent belt order is hard to beat for comfort and access to your gear.
>>63802034>Curious as to the logistics of this. You're volunteering at the museum, how do you keep the platecarrier accessible if you're there? I assume trunk of car. IIIA soft is often more concealable and can be worn on you in more circumstances. This also depends on threat model. It's the kind of org that allows personal storage, a lot of us do work on exhibits with our own tools, so I legitimately have a Rubbermaid tote of prepper shit no one knows about. i could easily keep a ready PC in there along with my other shit.
>>63802494A 6094 ULV combo'd with thin SRTs like Hesco U210s could make for an excellent "getting the fuck out of the city" setup. Less than overt thickness, light, capable against most 5.56 and 7.62x39.
This is unsafe, lawsuit bait, and not recommended, but a BE Meyers GLARE MOUT could be useful as a gun-mounted dazzler to dissuade crowd rushes. It's an eye-frying 100mW+ vis laser. Brick shithouse construction.
Also, expect similarly powerful eBay lasers to go around future riots. If you want to avoid eye damage, consider perhaps some laser protective glasses like the ex-mil S.P.E.C.S, brown lens. They're $15 or so on eBay.
Any radio needs have a opinion on this setup?

>Anytone 878 (plus or whatever newest model)
>DISCO32 Kenwood plug
>Comtac headset adapter

For ref headset is a Comtac V.
Unless you guys have a rec for the type of impedence/noise for this setup that's cheaper and better.
>>63803437Seems solid. Latest model is the 878UVII Plus. It's a 7-watt radio so it has plenty of power outside of 300% larp jammer situations.
Speaking of 300% larp, I've put together a quick and dirty shields infographic. The consumer-level ones are surprisingly cheap, but you play the same reputation game you do with plates, except there's no CPL to hold your hand, so you have to be careful. Steel and Chinese ceramic/composite dominate this arena like a prepper booth at a gun show in 2012.
I want to get a surplus hydration carrier, how do bladders work? Is there a industry standard or do I need to get one specific for it? I could get one with the bladder but surplus water bag sounds like a nightmare to clean.
>>63803614They're pretty standard if you just get a camelback bladder. There's a few that are proprietary, but for the most part, your standard chinese bladder will fit in whatever you get.
>>63803614usually its just done by liters or size so it will say like 3L backpack or like 100oz and you get whatever liters the hydration pack is. There are Source bladders that are more durable but obscenely expensive they fit in certain backpacks made for that.
Honestly id just get one that already has a bladder you can clean it out with bleach and let it air dry.

Okay, so I found that most of the hydration carriers are pretty similar in price. I even saw a OCP one cheaper than the ACU with new bladder. I like the FILBE one though since it has the pouch and pockets so I wouldn't have to put them on, and is at least brown. But the bladder looks weird, it's wide, not narrow and long like the army ones and it is expensive and I don't see any ones for sale on ebay with new bladers for like $20 like the other army ones. Does that need a specialized one? I there a camelbak number to cross reference for commercial ones since the issue one is a camelbak bladder?

>>63803770The USMC camelbak uses a 3 liter wide bladder, however it will fit a 2 liter one fine, I did that for years. Marines are given the bladders to keep when they turn in the carrier. They're not really a good shape for any civilian purposes IMO
The USMC camelbak is really meant for PT first and foremost, the pockets are great for your phone wallet keys.

Get a split rig like the ATAPS, an eagle MAP amd H harness, then whatever pouches you want. I recommend triple mag shingles for ammo, canteen pouch for extra water or gp use, ifak, and some smaller pouches for flashlights or multi tools. Can be compined with a belt for extra utility. Ill post a pic later of mine, it's not quite finished yet. So far I really like it, I'm a huge fan of the SADF battle jacket, and nobody else makes anything remotely similar to it except maybe the FLC which I despise for personal reasons. So I explored other options and decided to build my own. It doesn't have quite the level of comfort or carrying capacity of the SADF jacket however it's at least modular and has lots of room for improvements.

I have had yet another dream of the 2030 /gq/ meta. It came to me in a dream.
>Anywhere outside a concrete building is hell. You cannot survive. Drones are now mass-manufactured in huge factories and kamikaze anyone that moves, using advanced swarm AI algorithms to identify friend or foe based on characteristics. Thanks China.
>Everyone moves by tunnels.
>Whatever you bring into the building is whatever you're getting. Sustainment requirements and frag armor are at an all time high.
>Every third man has a 25 liter squadbak. The other two suck as they dig tunnels using hand-powered "freedom spoons."
>The hardest part is urine control.
>When tunnels intersect between friend and foe, whoever wins is the guy with the best wall-penetrating radar. Whoever spots first, wins.
>Armor-piercing ammo makes a resurgence, but not for piercing armor, but for piercing thin to moderate walls. Wallbang your enemies with the help of wall-penetrating radar.
>War is basically cat and mouse. Hiding and running, but not just hiding and running, also running and hiding, shooting and scooting but at a brutal, glacial pace.
>Like before, ARPKs with quad stacks rule. Norinco 120 round drums are now $700 a pop only because they look badass.
>Norinco comes out with a 240 round drum.
>Rise of the ARPK part more.
>Hesco and Highcum collectively merge into Hescum and dominate the civilian armor industry.

>He never uses them.
>/gq/ seethes and cums.
>Looks up wall penetrating radar
I'm priced the fuck out!
>>63808849extremely accurate and grim but yea
>>63808919But in all seriousness, I think rural areas are where people will get cleaned out and the safest location to hide in any kind of "boog" will be urban. Take advantage of high population density and urban chaos to evade detection, along with the superior cover concrete structures provide. Urban shit also naturally favors the defenders. Imagine trying to clear pic related with eight guys. Not happening. Imagine trying to clear some random mcmansion with eight dudes, perfectly doable.
>>63808933it would just be the nastiest/most brutal of everyone. Like Favela but worse. With better gear.
>>63808933>rural gets fuckedthis is common in a breakdown particularly because politicians are worried about their own stuff so they deploy riot cops and make sure they're paid via emergency funds and stuff like that while rural areas are abandoned to fend for themselves
>>63808944>with better gearYou can say that again. I think people are seriously underestimating the level of firepower the average guy is rocking. Think about it. We're more than thirty years removed from the militias. We're nearly twenty years removed from the obama scare. Thirteen years from the sandy hook panic. If anyone thinks people just went "nah, I'm good" and stopped at that point, they're mistaken. Don't even get started on recent developments.
Point is, it's not 1985 anymore and the average troublemaker will be running heavier than a saturday night special. Even the meme gangbangers are rolling ARPs with 60 round schmeisser mags and M855. Glocks with 33 stendos and switches. Plates are cheaper than they've ever been. There are at least fifteen to twenty thousand shitty ass 4SUS4s floating around alone. Surplus soft armor is damn cheap. If Militech comes back they'll flood the market with annoyingly cheap but annoyingly effective RF2 / RF3 plates.
The levels of gear will be mixed but otherwise pretty high. If civil unrest ever seriously impacts the survival of the state, expect some whizz-bang shit to come out of the woodwork. At this point, frankly, expect optical camouflage as a trump card.
Also figure out solutions for problems like dazzlers, especially the IR variety that can fry your eyeballs without you even knowing.
ebay lasers are cheap and will show up as irritant weapons.
>>63808946Also factor in thermals, night vision, drones. Let's face it, most prepper compounds cannot withstand a serious siege from a determined adversary, especially if they don't have to play by rules.
Urban environments with subterranean characteristics, moving around carefully but never staying anywhere longer than a day, that's where things will probably end up. Building to building. Make a fortress out of a three story trap house next to the other two houses that aren't targets, so bombs can't be used against you.
>>63794902 (OP)How come tactical pants don't come with loop velcro on their belt loops? It's extra engagement for your outer belt if you're into that and there's no downside if you're not.

>>63808849>/gq/ seethes and cumsWar.... war never changes.
>>63809016>I think people are seriously underestimating the level of firepower the average guy is rockingI always think of the guys who are running SRT plates as general purpose SHTF plates. Better than nothing? Yeah. But not as good as an RF2 plate, especially not the "RF2+" style plates that offer M855A1 coverage as well (like the LTC 19513 and Militech RF2).
>ebay lasers are cheap and will show up as irritant weapons.A bunch of cops and feds had their eyes injured back in 2020 due to the use of these things. Some of them had pretty serious permanent damage.
>dronesI'm counting the days until some highly motivated individual flies some drones over a crowd and has each of them loiter until they're all in place, then drops some sort of IEDs from them. Or maybe he'll put together his own FPV suicide drone package and use that as opening attack before opening fire with an automatic rifle, Vegas style. The possibilities are much worse if it's a group of guys carrying out an attack. The stuff going on in Ukraine with drones is no doubt giving a lot of future trouble makers ideas.
>>63809016>The future is just HalfLife 2Sometimes I dream about cheese.
>>63809016>Also factor in thermals, night vision, drones. Let's face it, most prepper compounds cannot withstand a serious siege from a determined adversary, especially if they don't have to play by rules.Anon, this goes both ways.
>Urban maxxingOnce again, both ways here anon. You have to go room to room, drainpipe to drainpipe. And its not a fun time.
>>63808904NGMI bro
You can DIY them off an 80% kit but they are not justasgood
>>63810454Goes both ways indeed. However, it's much easier to hide from thermals, drones, and night vision in a human dense, high-obstruction, busy urban environment than out in the boonies.
There's a million places to hide in any large urban center. Same cannot be said for a barn in the woods. Think how Waco would have gone down if the Branch Davidians rented a floor of a building in the city center. Can't use fire, too much collateral, can't roll tanks, even gas is risky and there's too many civilians running around. Would have been nasty.
Nonetheless, t helps to have thermals, NV, drones in both rural and urban environments.
>urbanmaxxingDefinitely not a fun time. Much rather be a defender though unless chemical agents are involved and we don't have PPE. There are countless ways to trap, control, and fortify urban structures. Clearing them requires different equipment than the open field and/or suburban stuff people might be used to.
>Wall pen radarYeah it's a shame. How much $$ for the DIY kits?
>>63809910>SRTsUsing SRTs as general purpose plates is both an act of desperation and trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. The L210 and such came at a time between the TAP Gamma / Sigma plates and the new breed of III+ like the RMA 19513 and Militech RF2. For people on a limited budget, SRTs were the go-to then. No longer.
SRTs are meant really for cops that need 5.56-optimized armor that stays in the trunk until an active shooter situation emerges. Being unable to stop even basic .308 most of the time precludes them from wider usage.
They do have a niche in urban situations where you need Draco, ARP protection (precluding lightweight Poly) and don't need to worry about hunting calibers.
>lasers! At minimum, the brown lens S.P.E.C.S are good. $15 on eBay and cover IR, red, green, blue, UV. No good against yellow / brown lasers but those aren't common.
The green lens older version can't help you against green lasers.
>dronesI think you might be onto something there. That's a problem and will make denial tools like signal jammers all the more valuable.
FCC might want to open up the rules on jammers here before shit gets nasty. Could see them permitting jammer importation and purchase with a special commercial license down the road.

Thought process: Secondary/backup Go-bag
>>63812709Don't overthink it. Keep it as a spare and/or keep it loaded as a "get-home" bag in your car trunk. No reason to get rid of kit that works, even if it's sub optimal.
Upgrade first to a modern backpack. Size is up to you and the situations you anticipate. Do you need an assault, 3 day, or INCH-type bag?

I havent shopped for body armor in years, can someone recommend or guide me to some I could conceal under a shirt/jacket?
>>63816345>conceal under a shirt/jacket?you're gonna be stuck with IIIA or some version of it if you actually wanna conceal it, otherwise a low profile slick carrier with level IV is a better alternative. I can't really think of a situation where im concealing low level armor in a situation where id actually want armor.
>>63816372IIIA is what I want
>>63816427What makes Crye better than another brand?
>>63816510Nothing in particular. Crye just werks, like a Glock, but it's a reverse Glock. Instead of paying less for a trusted but mediocre item, you're paying extra for not needing to think about it. You know it'll be mediocre but reliable.
>>63808571hard to judge length but it looks like it would make turning you head difficult
>>63816538>Instead of paying less for a trusted but mediocre item, you're paying extra for not needing to think about it.That's actually Glock at this point. "I don't want to worry about whether PSA Daggers are compatible with Glock parts and holsters, I'll just buy a Glock-brand Glock"
>>63816345>>63816372You have four options.
1. Soft armor, either II or IIIA. Crye LVS, Hardwire-68 for IIIA, or Hardwire-51 for II. II saves weight but stops less. Not ideal against faster 9x19, .357 SIG, .44 magnum, etc. These are a no-go across the board against rifle threats.
2. Less-than-overt poly plates. Run Level III poly like the Hesco 3801 / 3801LV, they're less than 0.45" thick and super light, but cannot stop M855. Shop the field though, the 3801 is good on paper but unproven (and also oddly light).
2. SRTs like the Hesco U211. These are basically Level IV plates with most of the backer removed, so they cannot stop even basic .308 within NIJ backface deformation limits, but cover you against M855, M193, M855A1 even, and various 7.62x39.
The gucci, .308 capable options are the less-than-overt SOCOM plates like the LTC 28791, which is baller but price-gouged to hell because Apex is lame.
3. PULV-type covert plates. These are sub-0.4" thin, made in a covert cut, and can handle 7.62x39 MSC at a minimum. Exact protection level depends on the flavor. There are five. Steel, titanium, B-VEL that adds M855 / M80, a stupidly expensive BZ API secret service version and an all-poly superlight. Real bitch to get most of these so stick to the first three options.
>>63816419Hardwire 68 or LVS are ideal. Cheaper good soft is from Stealth Armor Systems. Safariland has some especially thin aramid soft.
>>63816510NTA, but the LVS and Hardwire-68 are the two lightest white-side IIIA systems on the market.
>>63817189Quick second post. I double checked the 3801's thickness and it's just under an inch, so somehow the foam removed for the 3801LV is more than half the plate's thickness? What?
I got a hunch the 3801LV is an ICW plate, probably blows the BFD limit on M80 anyway, and Verrets is marketing it wrongly as standalone. This means you'll want high quality IIIA anyway behind it if you go with that option.
Good news is that adds scalability. Bad news is that Crye LVS or HW68 + 3801LV is big $$$, and also not guaranteed to work because ICW plates are often only tested with one specific model of soft armor. That's how the NIJ does it for certed plates.
Ergo, you'd have to cross reference v50s and other factors to determine soft armor effectiveness.
Yeah, nah, strike the 3801LV. I think Verretts is doing something funky.
Better options in this case are just soft armor, SRTs (or LTOs if you got the grip), or newer iterations of PULV. The all-poly version is apparently very, very light.
>>63817189How common is ร39 BZ API "in the wild"? I've literally only ever heard of it in the spec sheets for special threat plates.
>>63817302NTA but it's insanely rare. I don't think I've ever even seen it on Gunbroker. I've seen weird x39 blacktips far more frequently.
Also there's no QC standardization between Soviet ammo factories, so "API-BZ" could mean 100 different things.
>>63817323Figured as much, thanks.
Looking for a 7.62x51 chest rig like a Mayflower, what get?
Is there a shoe similar to Vans, chuck's or PF Flyers that have an aggressive sole or tread?
The altama maritime or urban assaults are close but I'm thinking an even more aggressive tread similar to like danner fullbores. I want something that has boot like tread but shoe like wearability. I like the Vans MTE shoes but they don't have the hot weather ones anymore and I live on Phoenix so the cold weather ones are unnecessary.
>>63817302It is common OCONUS (outside the states, think sandbox areas) since it's ex-soviet. So common that it's the threat of choice for the ISAPI military plate, which came before ESAPI - after SAPI - and admittedly not widely issued, and also the threat of choice for SOCOM's current less than overt plates. It is very rare CONUS - so rare it's not worth prepping for. Focus on M855A1 - which is a sidegrade. Better in some ways against certain armor materials and compositions, worse against others.
>>63817323100% right, and that goes double for 7.62x54 B-32 and the somewhat better B-32M too. Many western sources consider them the same, but they're not.
Most soviet and Russian rounds at this point have a harder M version to contend with. Sad fact of life.
>>63817465Makes sense that those special threat plates would be downstream of a SOCOM requirement that's not relevant CONUS.
>>63803883Link to purchase?
>>63817475The cheaper special threat plates like the L211, L210, M210 etc only pick it up because they share strike faces with .30-06 M2APLevel IV plates like the 4401, 4403, etc. They have a lot less backer, making them thinner, lighter, and less overt. This is why they can break penetrators like BZ API but simultaneously fail to basic .308. Ceramics work as a system. Thicken the strike face for penetrators, thicken the backer for higher energy threats. Only member of Hesco's SRT family that has apparent OCONUS usage is the U210 / U211, which is the top shelf model. Still vulnerable to even 7.62x51 M80.
The other end are the historical III++ plates like the BZ API TAP Gamma Plus. This category is making a resurgence with the even stronger, 7.62x51 M61 AP rated Highcom 3S9M and Hesco 3814, but those plates are like quasi-IV in weight, albeit with III multi-hit, so they're a small commercial niche.

>>63801799>India crash coursing boron carbide / PE armor and driving right past Hescointeresting, I wasn't aware of this, which company and is it available in the states?
>>63818054Would you actually feel confident enough in an Indian pl8 company's QC to redeem their shit, saar?
>>63818054The story is fairly interesting.
For the majority of India's career, their body armor industry has been absolute ass and behind even the Chinese one. A couple years ago, their DARPA equivalent, DRDO, went on a major crash course of boron carbide + PE engineering. They developed a new cut of plate with greater coverage than SAPI, similar to the euro "ergo cut" but in two sizes. DRDO regular is a little larger and "DRDO Large" is huge full torso shit. When their technology, design, and specifications were complete, they gave everything to at least two companies. SMPP and Pragati.
Both companies are now manufacturing very impressive B4C+PE and SiC+PE designs discussed in
>>63803718. Of particular note is the Pragati Defender M993, standalone multi-hit M993 protection under 6.5lb. An XSAPI is about that weight, with less coverage, but needs soft armor. On paper, the Defender is comparable to the LTC 28601. That's the best white-side plate LTC has, albeit ten to twelve years old.
Sadly, neither company sells in the states. They would be expensive.
>>63818100Same could be said for Chinese armor until Militech / Longfri came around and they started taking things more seriously. Now Militech is top dog in the /pfg/ arena. Their SiC RF2 and RF3 Black are unrivaled in price:performance, but they remain certless.
Pragati and SMPP obviously need to prove themselves, but we ought to treat them like any other manufacturer if they start dealing in the states. Let's see the test reports and whether they get any NIJ certs.
>>63818152It'll be great when those NIJjas start issuing RF2 certs.

>>63819681All you have to do is start a conversation about something more interesting and engaging, then the armor discussion won't dominate the thread
>>63819837Right on the money. Nobody talking about plates is minding that people are also talking about boots, or radios. What else we wanna talk about?
>>63819681>Everyone has gotten their armor by nowApparently not, considering there's at least 2-3 people a thread who need armor, or realize they got burned on shitty armor because they listened to reddit man #9382.
>No one will ever useYou wear it in your platecarrier, that's using it. lol

So why is SafeLife shit again?
slightly off topic, but I think y'all are the most likely to know. since a lot of motorcycle armor is kevlar, would a flak vest protect just as well against a car impact? obviously the heat would suck, but I think it would be funny
>>63820452Kevlar motorcycle gear is to protect against road rash abrasion, it does little to nothing for impacts.
It would protect you from being dragged down the highway by a car, but the impact is gonna suck regardless. Maybe you wont get shanked by a windshield wiper but thats the extent of its protection.
>>63820452God, some of you are just fucking dumb. There are middle schoolers that innately grasp physics better than you.
>>63820442They aren't shit, just mid. They used to be shit but pulled a Militech and cleaned up. They've got NIJ certifications on several products. The top guys like Safariland, Point Blank, Hardwire, etc can get you better performance. Safelife's IIIA+ has a little extra headroom versus usual fare. 50gr Liberty 9x19 and limited 5.7x28.
Safelife's FRAS flexible rifle armor is a bit of a meme and reliant on good IIIA soft to stop .308. Can stop M855, 7.62x39 MSC, or M193 on its own, but with soft armor you have a much more expensive, equally heavy solution as the LTC 19513 WITHOUT the 19513's M855A1 rating. FRAS is too expensive for what it does.
>>63820023For the past six months we've been the first to get the scoop on most armor developments. Makes sense /gq/ is the first to talk about Saaradyne and the twenty hit 7.62x39 plates.
>>63820619They are shit. Their soft armor is literally twice as heavy as everybody else's, and they did their best to hide this from their customers for years. Also "IIIA+" was always retarded and they never posted any proof of their claims of stab resistance.
> Saaradyne Ceradyne is dead. Saaradyne lives. Fuck this timeline.
>>63820690Indeed, their shit's heavy. However, they've got four certifications for their soft armor (more than RMA can say for their plates!), so while they're overweight, those panels do pass batch / FIT tests.
That's what makes them mid. Yes, it works, but it's not optimal. "Shit" is stuff like the RMA 1155, Hesco 4400 / 4600 that were improperly heat treated, 4SUS4 if it got mistreated by the mailman, stuff that has serious workmanship problems. Beyond shit would be those $23 Linry level IVs, lol. Merely being heavier than the competition is different from failing FITs and dropping the ball on QC.
Stealth Armor Systems gets you a better deal for budget soft, or stick with the big guys for soft armor.
>IIIA+It's basically IIIA with added protection against a very rare 9x19 threat. Situational and mid, sure.
>SaaradyneWe live in the mediocre armor timeline. With Ceradyne gone, LTC / Tencate / BAE sitting on their balls, and Hesco actually regressing while Highcum is going broke, there is an illusion that american armor is getting passed by other countries. In some ways, that's true.
For what it's worth, Militech has yet to show any boron carbide plates aside from a prototype cheat ringed IV like eight years ago. We haven't seen what China is fully capable of yet. A B4C+PE tile array RF2 rated to M855A1, at $500 a plate, would (on paper) dumpster the $400, Alumina+PE LTC 19513. Sadly the thirdies have American companies beat on raw cost of materials.
>another armor convo
yawn,
how about radios, chest rigs, hydration, yaknow stuff that actually matters instead of minmaxxing armor?
>>63820753So aside from being heavier theyโre otherwise fine for stopping pistols? Iโm not worried at the moment about anarchy and people shooting rifle rounds in my area, but I could get some to slip into the soft armor vest if warranted. I have no interest in plate carriers
>>63820690I like how you answered anons question but instead of telling him directly you chose to argue with someone else about it.
>>63820150Iโm kind of liking the T-Rex flap rig.
>>63820753> Indeed, their shit's heavy. However, they've got four certifications for their soft armor (more than RMA can say for their plates!), so while they're overweight, those panels do pass batch / FIT tests. It's not mid, it's like sub-mid. Probably the worst "certified" soft armor you can buy. And some of it was certified so recently, and to such an old standard, that there won't be any FIT tests, lol
It's d-tier soft armor. Not quite f-tier, but not good.
>>63820896They'll work, they're just heavier and thicker than the competition for no good reason and with no performance benefit.
>>63820883Post about innawoods kit and doxycycline. That'll get you 100 replies, easy, as all of the "medics" start seething and malding that you pack your own antibiotics.
>>63821104That's gay. I just take 8000 mg of acetaminophen and 8000 mg of doxycycline before every hike. I carry all I need in my veins.
>>63821104My blood is so toxic nothing can infect me ever.
>>63821104how come nobody ever talks about stabilizing fractures when /out/?
it sucks the entire time and that bullshit they taught you in boy scouts about making a sling out of a t shirt will not work nearly as good as you want it to
I guess nobody has ever fell down while hiking with guns and broke a bone before
>>63821131>sucks the entire timeYeah, you didn't think the bandana sling was going to do anything for the pain did you? Just keep you from bumping it around too much while you're friends have to carry you back
If good pole sized saplings are around I'm a big fan of constructing a travois for the injured, it's still going to bounce them around and cause pain but it will be quicker and easier for everyone involved then them hopping home with someone supporting half their weight
>>63821150honestly, if it was a heavier cloth with a clip or something to keep it more rigid and take the weight of the dead limb, it would have been much more comfortable. I think the problem with the bandana is it barely controls the limb and the movement is what causes the breakthrough pain that's really hard to cope with. also anyone who isn't carrying a sam splint is wrong.
good idea with the travois, haven't seen that before.
I know you'll bleed to death before you pain to death but I figure falling off the side of a mountain is probably a more likely injury than getting shot most of the time, should probably put some thought into what to do about that
>>63821173I have a sam splint but I've never used one, it doesn't seem ridgid enough on its own, in conjunction with a stick maybe
But yeah, bandana is a last resort kinda thing, I'm using compression bandages if I have some available
>>63821197they rolled it out and taped the sam splint to me, which kinda sucks on its own but it does work. they're not super rigid but they are moldable which is nice depending on how someone is fucked up.
sam + any stick type object (sticks, pens, chemlights, whatever) in some form of sling is the way to go. I've thought about making bandanas out of heavy denim with some clips or really strong velcro on them specifically for this purpose
>>63821131>how come nobody ever talks about stabilizing fractures when /out/?because you're fucked?
for example if you smash your foot you have maybe 30 mins or so before the swelling is so bad you can't walk, even with stabilization you're going to be crawling/hobbling out of there
sam splint is ok, medical tape helps a lot too to just hold everything together, add a stick and you got a stew going
also good to stay up to date on medical, do a trauma class every so often and stuff like that, medical training is like gun training you need to stay sharp
>>63821086We can probably settle on it being a C-. It's not gonna get you killed in the streets and it passes conditioning tests. Contra, say, the RMA 1155, which failed a FIT, can't multi-hit against even tulammo for shit, and weighs over 8lb because it's made of vietnam throwback materials. I'd make that a D-tier armor. F tier should be shit that just doesn't work. American blast ass, Highcom 4SAS4 if the mailman dropped it a few times because tacshit shipped em with barely any packaging. For soft, D would be buying random 20 year old shit off ebay and F zylon out of a landfill.
Otherwise I agree. It's workable if you're stuck with it but it's not armor you should seek out.
Stealth is all around a better manufacturer, IMO.
>>63821022That's just his style, lol. I'm the anon he was replying to.
>>63820883>actually mattersI'm pretty sure stopping people from getting shot matters, or do we never expect to actually use any of our stuff? In that case, nothing matters and it's all even!
>>63821533so what, your buddy breaks an ankle and you just euthanize him right there?
I get it, if it truly is over there probably isn't gonna be anybody to put you in a cast or do surgery, but holy shit lol
you're fucked if you get shot too, even if you don't bleed out right there it's not like you're getting any better. realistically why carry any medical, just eat your gun if you get hurt that bad
at least have a plan for if this happens when you're larping or something
>>63821561carry him out, if you're fit. otherwise you're leaving him and going for help by yourself
if you're alone better have your radio/satellite phone/beacon/flare what have you because you're pretty fucked
have you ever been badly hurt in the woods and had to crawl out for help? it's pretty unpleasant
as for larping, in a bad scenario medical is the first thing to get used up and it doesn't come back

>>63822317NTA and not a lawyer. Applicable section is as follows:
New York State Penal Law Section 270.20:
ยง 270.20 Unlawful wearing of body armor.
1. A person is guilty of the unlawful wearing of body armor when acting either alone or with one or more other persons he commits any violent felony offense defined in section 70.02 while possessing a firearm, rifle or shotgun and in the course of and in furtherance of such crime he or she wears body armor.
2. For the purposes of this section "body armor" means any product that is a personal protective body covering intended to protect against gunfire, regardless of whether such product is to be worn alone or is sold as a complement to another product or garment. The unlawful wearing of body armor is a class E felony.
Then see 270.21 regarding purchase of body armor.
ยง 270.21 Unlawful purchase of body armor.
A person is guilty of the unlawful purchase of body armor when, not being engaged or employed in an eligible profession, they knowingly purchase or take possession of body armor, as such term is defined in subdivision two of section 270.20 of this article. This section shall not apply to individuals or entities engaged or employed in eligible professions, which shall include police officers as defined in section 1.20 of the criminal procedure law, peace officers as defined in section 2.10 of the criminal procedure law, persons in military service in the state of New York or military or other service for the United States, and such other professions designated by the department of state in accordance with section one hundred forty-four-a of the executive law. Unlawful purchase of body armor is a class A misdemeanor for a first offense and a class E felony for any subsequent offense.
In short, the rules are pretty tight. You can thank pic related dipshit for that.

>i don't see a need other than protecting the home and family in some eventYeah that's the thing. You're going to be armorless, which isn't a killer but means you aren't going to be able to eat hits to the vitals. Think chest rig or belt kit for a start.
It sounds like under the applicable statutes a shield is technically okay, since it is not a body covering and cannot be "worn."
Curious if the people selling them however would agree with that interpretation, given the liability shitshow NY is turning out to be for a certain armor manufacturer.
>>63822370That's long even by blue state standards, jeez.
>>63822368I'm honestly thinking he might be able to swing a shield in lieu of body armor. It's not an ideal solution, since shields are usually run by teams, are heavy, bulky, and preclude you from using both hands for something else. However, he could give the shield to his wife or something in case of a home invasion, should the aggressor spray wildly and put holes in walls.

Hey fags
good tips to make an AR15 more ambi friendly ? Thanks
>>63825491training
its all doable left handed, you just cant drop mag and reach for the next one at the same time, you have to hit it with your right hand before you reach or when you come back up with the new mag
>>63825490Donโt we all my friend, donโt we all.
>>63825491Use ambi parts?
>>63825491If you really want some special snowflake shit, Forward Controls Design makes a bolt release that's extended to the rear so you can reach it with your index finger easier; it's probably cheaper than the Geissele Super Whatever equivalent and it doesn't break compatibility with any ambi mag catch you might want to use.
Other than that,
>>63825576 is right, everything on it is doable left-handed with minimal extra effort, and you actually have an easier time locking the bolt open manually since you can interact with the bolt catch from a firing grip, unlike normal people.
>>63825491a 100% truly ambi AR is expensive you need a full ambi lower kit, otherwise you could get by with ambi selector (easy), ambi charging handle (easy), however ambi bolt release requires a dedicated cut lower for that or you are stuck using something like a Magpul BAD lever, then you need to ensure you setup your controls for accessories to be ambi friendly. Mag release also requires lower to be cut a certain way.

>>63825856This is cope. The militias historically performed embarrassingly poorly. Other than some early successes at Concord and Bunker Hill, in general they couldn't hack it in the revolution so a formally trained and organized Continental Army had to be created with foreign advisors. In the War of 1812 the militia broke and was routed outside of DC letting the British burn our capital. Outside of these, the militias were almost exclusively used against natives and when they weren't intentionally committing genocide against babies and women they were busy seeking revenge over indian raids only to go out and attack a completely different tribe to kill more babies and women. Disorganized rabble is disorganized rabble and always has been. Modern muhlitias would likely do worse.
