Yes, but in this case he's not using it to shoot criminals.
It's loaded with low-power dart projectiles containing a fast acting solution of amphetamines and steroids, he just inserts the barrel into his asshole, pulls the trigger, and hulk smashes anyone in a 3 meter radius.

In countries where civilian firearms are not common they still make sense. But why when glocks exist? The only logical reason is the revolvers already being owned by the police force and them being gradually phased out and replaced with the less expensive and superior automatics.

Most cops never fire a shot in anger so there is no real harm in letting the old guys carry their revolver until they retire, you just don't allow the young guys to carry them.

No, there's no reason. The reality is officers were as poor shots back in the 70s as they are today, the idea was they were supposed to make every shot count but the criminals weren't riding around with 21 round mag glocks and AR pistols

asian cops use them because they are behind at least 100 years when it comes to police advancement, mostly because their crime is organized or at a very executive level.

You have to get special boxes for just the old guy. But again, if it's them eating through the old ammo using the old system I think it makes sense. Like how the M1 Garand wasn't fully phased out until the 1970s.

God DAMN he's fucking huge. Mirin hard. Anyways your thread sucks, revolvers are only used in Asian countries a) because violent crime is rare and b) to maintain the appearance of being friendly neighborhood cops. Chinese guy I work with told me police there are basically treated like superheroes who can help you with anything. If they were all militarized it would ruin the vibes.

I’d argue that a revolver is simpler to operate than a semiautomatic, especially a basic double action.. no need to train for jams or ftf… just pull the trigger again… I think I remember seeing a picture of a Chinese police revolver on here at some point.. they put a ring on the bottom of the grip and chain the revolver to the officers belt so it can’t be easily stolen (or left somewhere) that said that’s a pretty niche use.. but I think it’s a valid one.

Most Chinese police don’t carry guns most of the time. I think they only give them out of they are responding to someone with a gun. The rationale is that most criminals don’t have guns, and the party fears that armed policemen might revolt.

My dad once told me that one of my relatives (probably either grandfather, who had been a PLAAF major in Korea and later worked for Xinhua, or an uncle who was a tax collector) had a friend in the police who talked about how they had a room in the station where they beat people until they confessed, so it’s not like Chinese police are super nice, either.

I’ve also seen another of my uncles (an unemployed bum) brawling with a policeman, but nothing happened to him. I heard that if you get into a fight with a policeman, then it is considered a private matter, but if you knock their hat off or damage it, then you will be severely punished (as it is a symbol of the state).

This may not be 100% accurate. Most of it is hearsay from years ago.

I don't think police should be militarized, but giving them high capacity automatics has legitimately saved countless lives. The mag dump method is trained because it works really well at physically stopping attackers, where pain and fear aren't enough.

Oh for sure, the guy is full of shit. He thinks living in an authoritarian police state is great because otherwise Xinjiang terrorists would be blowing up skyscrapers left and right. No. Not as a primary weapon. ALL modern LEO forces are taught to magdump. That's not only easier to do with an autoloader, but with an autoloader you don't need to be as good of a shot. Like it or not, most cops spend only the minimally required amount of time on the range, AND they are given unlimited amount of chances to qualify. There's not one cop I've ever seen in my Dad's classes that I could not out shoot. They pretty much suck. A revolver would only highlight that even more.

Lol he is lying to make china look better, or has a very romantic viewpoint and hasn't been back in like twenty years to remember how things actually are outside movies and TV dramas.
Chinese cops in a tier 1 city MAYBE, but anywhere else, especially out in the countryside, they're treated like assholes and slobs who either couldn't stand to get a real job, or are too stupid to go to better schools.
They are not worthy of any respect at all and people only tolerate them because they're backed by the state.

I’ve heard that there’s 2 tiers of cops in China, the civil servant cops and the temp cops. Civil servant cops are much rarer, have great benefits and job security, and you need to get some sort of civil servant certification to become one. And then there are countless randos hired as cops, they have no qualifications, benefits, or job security.

They have armed SWAT teams who often stand guard in public spaces, outside train stations, malls and squares.
Otherwise, only patrol leaders and such carry guns and only if responding to violence (though it doesn't have to be gun violence).

Parts of it are. There's great parts of the Chinese system, it's not pure shit, it's more nuanced than that.
For one, violent crime is almost unheard of. And if you're not poor, the huge domestic market provides almost anything you can possibly want.

The price of the good parts is obviously more than most of us are prepared to pay though.

My GF is a teacher in the US, and from what I've seen, I absolutely mean it when I say that the state of education in the US is fucking scary.
Bush should have never started the "No Child Left Behind" bullshit, the resulting 20 years of ever-devolving federally mandated PC education nonsense has intellectually hobbled an entire generation and then some.
Kids in school now are probably drastically behind when compared to the rest of the globe.
We really should take a page or two out of their book on some of that "brutal, psuedo-brainwashing education at the cost of the student's sanity" shit they run.

Limited capacity has a niche advantage: if a criminal steals an officer's sidearm, he'll only have 5 or 6 shots rather than 17+1, that's one of the reason why Japan still issues revolvers to police officers. They know that the only source of black market sidearms are stolen police guns, so they want to cripple their chances to outgun them in a potential gunfight. Cops can always call in CT units with SMGs, but armed criminals would be stuck with their six shooters.
>Why don't they carry Glocks then with only 8 rounds in the mag?
Because you can still put extended mags in a Glock, but there's no way you can increase the capacity of a revolver.

>Limited capacity has a niche advantage: if a criminal steals an officer's sidearm, he'll only have 5 or 6 shots rather than 17+1, that's one of the reason why Japan still issues revolvers to police officers
until a goober makes a 9 shot blackpowder shotgun out of pipes

The Smithsonian Police Department in DC still issues revolvers too, but they're required to by law. Someone made a typo in the CFR when the department was established way back in the day and wrote that the department is authorized to utilize revolvers and maintain power of arrest instead of writing that they could utilize firearms like what is written for every other federal agency. Since it would take an act of Congress to fix this, they're pretty much stuck carrying wheel guns.

No, you need minimum marksmanship for revolvers.

Also, a lot of Asian countries you're required to account for *every fucking bullet* when you go hot. They've had problems with cops selling off ammo from their duty weapons in the past (really, most countries with extremely restrictive systems have had them). So outside the most extreme situations a beat cop losing their brass in Japan or Singapore is treated like they stole the ammo. Brits had the same problems and similar laws in some of their colonies, which included Hong Kong for a good while. Same reason they issued deliberately crippled shotguns with proprietary ammo to prison guards.

Back then I knew one guy who was an MP and they gave him a Beretta, I think as long as you have prior experience. I also remember they had multiple approved weapons, so some full time guys carried P226’s and other guns. Do you know the story why they don’t take their .38’s home anymore?

I don't know Japanese uniforms but I'm certain that those are Chinese faces.
That said, I do know Chinese uniforms and those don't match any mainlander uniforms I've seen.
Maybe Hong Kong?
I wouldn't 100% rule out that this is a film/tv set.
