Military Field Manuals
Which U.S. field manuals have (you) found interesting? Has anyone found any worthwhile ones from other countries?

Back when US Marines did the whole bush war death squad stuff to secure US corporate interests around the world in the 1890s-WWII period.

Basically a manual on how to conduct bush wars successfully.

FM 20-60 Battlefield Illumination. Snapshot between when night was the end of operations and the rise of thermal/night vision.
The various manuals dealing with battle damage assessment and repair and damage control. Neat peek into how field expedient repairs put damaged equipment back into service. Pic related, a manual I haven't seen uploaded for free anywhere yet.

i was looking through what was available and i noticed that there's a field manual for necropsy on military dogs (later subsumed by a more comprehensive bog on veterinary care as a whole), but none for humans.

that's because it wouldn't be a field manual and would go with the other medical manuals or whatever the national medical standard.

The ones written by WW2 German Officers about fighting the Russians are interesting.

I remember this! Do you have the parts about Russians being strong on the defense and dying in place but being psychologically weak to flanking and cut-off attacks?

Also these US interviews of German officers about the Eastern front are the origin of the common 3 to 1 ratio for attacks rule of thumb. Statistically Russians needed better than 3 to 1, sometimes 6 to 1; despite most western assaults relying more on suppressive fire and often using an equal or even smaller assault force to close into cqb.

This same book has a great almost cinematic chapter detailing a single disabled KV-1 heavy tank holding back an advancing German infantry column for days, taking out some tanks, AT guns, vehicles and a lot of men before some ballsy pioneer crawled up to it on his belly and managed to throw a satchel charge under it
