While I'm glad, I have an actual battle rifle question.
If I want a SCAR-17, is the non-recip charging handle really a deal breaker? Asking cuz older, used ones are running much cheaper and/or with goodies like extra mags and optics.
Question:
How much was brownells selling the BRN-10 for? I don't plan on buying one, but the ones on gunbroker are more than $2k
>>63807666How much cheaper? If it really sucks, you can get the NRCH upgrade kit (FN23B-A689) for $850-$1000.
If it matters to you, older ones are also made in Belgium instead of the USA, and don't have the full-auto sear blocker on the bottom of the receiver.
t. has a NRCH SCAR-17, never shot the old ones.
>>63807702it was around $1k on clearance. I think it was even sub 1k towards the end if you bought the upper and lower separately. I think the waffle mags were ~$20 in the final days too.

>>63808457All I'm saying is if you have the resolve to sav we $2k, for $2k more you have $4,000. By then, you have adjusted your budget, lifestyle and spending habits to the point where the next $2k is basically a non issue. Now, with $6k, you can save just a little while longer, while you are actively seeking your pre-ban, .I.M.I. 308 Galil, imported by Magnum Research and the next $900 is basically chump change. It's just that easy. Or, you could spend like 4 years building a .308 Galil from a .223 ACE kit. Which sounds easier? There's one on GI that comes with a letter from Magnum Research for under $7k.

WHAT DO I BUY?
I'm looking for a taper mounting QD muzzle device/mount pair to attach one universal 30 cal can and swap it between five different barrels. What's the best option? Already have the guns and can (DT WLVRN & Hux Ventum)
Priorities:
>actually in stock somewhere
>repeatable PoI shift after mount/dismount
>small PoI shift between mounted/unmounted
>hub compatible
>matte finish (fuck you, Q)
>lowest priority is cost, but it'd be nice to have something not a gorrillion dollars
Seems like silencerco ASR and deadair hub mount are the best according to internet memes but I don't have experience or data to actually quantify that.
Any thoughts?

>>63849945You will want a 18" or 20" rifle. For hunting, any rifle will be able to hit up to 400yards. For precision long range shots, you will want a 24" + barrel. Shorter is better; less weight, less to snag, less to pull up a tree, faster to shoulder.
Brownells has popular barrels in stock.
https://www.brownells.com/gun-parts/rifle-parts/rifle-barrels-parts/
These are pretty good and cheap for what you get. A long gun is basically the barrel, trigger and stock. Buying in parts also ensures you get the highest quality at the best possible price. Doesn't have to be what Brownells has here, you can do some research and end up with a Sako, Tikka and more.
>>63849945Savage 110 or Bergara B14.

>>63849945Bergara HMR, love mine
>>63837694Just because the AG-42 has a small bore doesn't mean it isn't a battle rifle. 6.5 Swedish was more powerful than the other 6.5 cartridges of it's time. It's still an effective cartridge at 800m.
At risk of sounding like a weakling...
I just got a C3 which is a CAI (i know...) G3 clone made using portuguese parts. The charging handle is incredibly inconsistent in how difficult it is to pull back. I can always get the handle to swing out and disengage the rollers, however sometimes it's impossible to pull back. I'll pull down with a ton of force from both of my arms and it wont' budge at all... but then I'll jiggle it around and I can easily pull it back with one arm.
It feels like the circular part of the charging handle that resides inside of the spring tube gets wedged and refuses to move sometimes, but if I can shift it it will unwedge and move freely. Is there any way to resolve this or do I simply need to break in the rifle and hope it resolves itself? I'm just unsure as to whether this is normal or not because all of the posts I see on boomer forums and even reddit say "drink milk" "work on your arms" etc.
>>63854270At the risk of sounding like an asshole, have you lubed moving parts associated with the charging handle and recoil system?

Came across some FN C1A1 hammers that were modified for a better trigger pull. Lads would slick up the sear engagement on some spare parts and swap in and out of rifles so as to not deface the Queen’s rifles for a shooting competition. No idea how safe they’d be to actually use. Shame FALs are banned in Canada.

>>63845070>>63845078Okay, thanks. They were fetching $650-$800 CAD in the early 2000's then dropped to around $350 for a couple years before jumping right back up. I think it got cheaper because CTD got truckloads of them when the german military purged it's G3 stuff. Glad I kept the one that came with my Fero Z51 scope in 2017. The scope died a few months later, no more tubes for those babies. So I basically got the claw mount for $600 CAD.

Allegedly, the furniture is compatable with the Browning Safari MKII, If that appeals to you, research it in detail and don't take my word for it. The higher capacity mags run high, but not extreme for exotics. Expect prices for 20s near or at $100/ea. It is a design similar to the WWII BAR. What level of design effort JMBs grandson actually had is not detailed to me. Might be like the content control Rod Serling had over Night Gallery (meaning name only). Honestly, $1200 seems to be the current average. If that's what you want, it will not go down, so strike now. It's been awhile since I posted in /brg/. This is a repost from the gun buyers remorse thread:
Diamondback AR10 in .308 with a 16" barrel. I got it when I was new-ish to guns and I wasn't sure what I liked in an AR pattern rifle. I just wanted to get into the battle rifle game.
>stupidly overgassed
>it doesn't eject shell casings; it YEETS them out at a 1 o'clock position.

>I thought I was being a pussy. No, it really is that bad.
>I am scared to mount a optic on it and keep it on there because it WILL break it.
>I'm not quite sure how to fix it because of AR10 parts faggotry. Yes, I saved the AR10 style guide. No, it is not as helpful as you would think.
>Still super accurate
>Still feel like I am Master Chief from Halo when I shoot it.
>Other than the insane recoil, it is a good gun.
It taught me that a 20" barrel, a rifle length gas system, a rifle length buffer, and an adjustable gas block are a MUST have on a .308 AR. I am legit considering selling it and getting something that has everything I want out of the box. AR10s are a ton of fun, but I don't think this particular one is the right one for me.
I think I answered my own question, but I want validation from random internet strangers. I am considering the Sabre-10 as a replacement, but what do you think?

>>63877101>Recommending Otter Creek for a SCARFor a SCAR you need to go for a reduced back pressure silencer. Not an increased back pressure one. An Otter Creek will unironically destroy a SCAR unless you want to waste a ton of time and money getting gas adjustment parts for suppression that may or may not work. Just get a B&T RBS Ti for $900. It weighs 9 ounces with direct thread, is reduced back pressure, and is full auto rated for .308. Otter Creek was the shit a year ago, but that guy that owns it can't compete with 3D printed flow through titanium silencers.

The minimal POA/POI shift requirement from the Mk13 contract is also probably the best aside from TBAC.

Is a garand sniper worth it?
what to look for to avoid problems?
Can the optic be adjusted / zeroed easily or is it a special tool little setting range nightmare?
Can the optics be taken off / on easily or is it soldered / bolted in place ?
M1 is cool as fuck but 2500 is a lot if you have some mouths to feed, thx for any advice in advance.
