While I'm glad, I have an actual battle rifle question.

If I want a SCAR-17, is the non-recip charging handle really a deal breaker? Asking cuz older, used ones are running much cheaper and/or with goodies like extra mags and optics.

How much cheaper? If it really sucks, you can get the NRCH upgrade kit (FN23B-A689) for $850-$1000.
If it matters to you, older ones are also made in Belgium instead of the USA, and don't have the full-auto sear blocker on the bottom of the receiver.

t. has a NRCH SCAR-17, never shot the old ones.

it was around $1k on clearance. I think it was even sub 1k towards the end if you bought the upper and lower separately. I think the waffle mags were ~$20 in the final days too.

All I'm saying is if you have the resolve to sav we $2k, for $2k more you have $4,000. By then, you have adjusted your budget, lifestyle and spending habits to the point where the next $2k is basically a non issue. Now, with $6k, you can save just a little while longer, while you are actively seeking your pre-ban, .I.M.I. 308 Galil, imported by Magnum Research and the next $900 is basically chump change. It's just that easy. Or, you could spend like 4 years building a .308 Galil from a .223 ACE kit. Which sounds easier? There's one on GI that comes with a letter from Magnum Research for under $7k.

WHAT DO I BUY?

I'm looking for a taper mounting QD muzzle device/mount pair to attach one universal 30 cal can and swap it between five different barrels. What's the best option? Already have the guns and can (DT WLVRN & Hux Ventum)

Priorities:
>actually in stock somewhere
>repeatable PoI shift after mount/dismount
>small PoI shift between mounted/unmounted
>hub compatible
>matte finish (fuck you, Q)
>lowest priority is cost, but it'd be nice to have something not a gorrillion dollars

Seems like silencerco ASR and deadair hub mount are the best according to internet memes but I don't have experience or data to actually quantify that.

Any thoughts?

If you want to try something different, but good, consider looking into ballistic research and machine. They should be available if you're on the east coast, but maybe theres dealers out west too. I'm very happy with my can.

You will want a 18" or 20" rifle. For hunting, any rifle will be able to hit up to 400yards. For precision long range shots, you will want a 24" + barrel. Shorter is better; less weight, less to snag, less to pull up a tree, faster to shoulder.

Brownells has popular barrels in stock.

https://www.brownells.com/gun-parts/rifle-parts/rifle-barrels-parts/

These are pretty good and cheap for what you get. A long gun is basically the barrel, trigger and stock. Buying in parts also ensures you get the highest quality at the best possible price. Doesn't have to be what Brownells has here, you can do some research and end up with a Sako, Tikka and more.

Just because the AG-42 has a small bore doesn't mean it isn't a battle rifle. 6.5 Swedish was more powerful than the other 6.5 cartridges of it's time. It's still an effective cartridge at 800m.

At risk of sounding like a weakling...

I just got a C3 which is a CAI (i know...) G3 clone made using portuguese parts. The charging handle is incredibly inconsistent in how difficult it is to pull back. I can always get the handle to swing out and disengage the rollers, however sometimes it's impossible to pull back. I'll pull down with a ton of force from both of my arms and it wont' budge at all... but then I'll jiggle it around and I can easily pull it back with one arm.

It feels like the circular part of the charging handle that resides inside of the spring tube gets wedged and refuses to move sometimes, but if I can shift it it will unwedge and move freely. Is there any way to resolve this or do I simply need to break in the rifle and hope it resolves itself? I'm just unsure as to whether this is normal or not because all of the posts I see on boomer forums and even reddit say "drink milk" "work on your arms" etc.

Came across some FN C1A1 hammers that were modified for a better trigger pull. Lads would slick up the sear engagement on some spare parts and swap in and out of rifles so as to not deface the Queen’s rifles for a shooting competition. No idea how safe they’d be to actually use. Shame FALs are banned in Canada.

Okay, thanks. They were fetching $650-$800 CAD in the early 2000's then dropped to around $350 for a couple years before jumping right back up. I think it got cheaper because CTD got truckloads of them when the german military purged it's G3 stuff. Glad I kept the one that came with my Fero Z51 scope in 2017. The scope died a few months later, no more tubes for those babies. So I basically got the claw mount for $600 CAD.

There are a couple varieties, so depending upon what's avaliable, you have options. There is a match configuration, in blue, no less. Allegedly, the furniture is compatable with the Browning Safari MKII, If that appeals to you, research it in detail and don't take my word for it. The higher capacity mags run high, but not extreme for exotics. Expect prices for 20s near or at $100/ea. It is a design similar to the WWII BAR. What level of design effort JMBs grandson actually had is not detailed to me. Might be like the content control Rod Serling had over Night Gallery (meaning name only). Honestly, $1200 seems to be the current average. If that's what you want, it will not go down, so strike now. Get that and then get the FN SPR (which seem to have gone through the roof in the last year or two), to match and you have the start of an elite collection! Luck.

It's been awhile since I posted in /brg/. This is a repost from the gun buyers remorse thread:

Diamondback AR10 in .308 with a 16" barrel. I got it when I was new-ish to guns and I wasn't sure what I liked in an AR pattern rifle. I just wanted to get into the battle rifle game.
>stupidly overgassed
>it doesn't eject shell casings; it YEETS them out at a 1 o'clock position.
>legit painful to shoot. It hurts after 3-4 magazines. My shoulder still feels sore 2 to 3 days after shooting it.
>Recoil is far worse than shooting slugs out of a shotgun
>I thought I was being a pussy. No, it really is that bad.
>I am scared to mount a optic on it and keep it on there because it WILL break it.
>I'm not quite sure how to fix it because of AR10 parts faggotry. Yes, I saved the AR10 style guide. No, it is not as helpful as you would think.
>Still super accurate
>Still feel like I am Master Chief from Halo when I shoot it.
>Other than the insane recoil, it is a good gun.

It taught me that a 20" barrel, a rifle length gas system, a rifle length buffer, and an adjustable gas block are a MUST have on a .308 AR. I am legit considering selling it and getting something that has everything I want out of the box. AR10s are a ton of fun, but I don't think this particular one is the right one for me.

I think I answered my own question, but I want validation from random internet strangers. I am considering the Sabre-10 as a replacement, but what do you think?

Most likely that is more of a preservative grease than a lubricant. De-gease the whole thing and re-oil it.

I think you should get a gun that actually functions properly, in no semi auto rifle should .308 have MORE recoil than 12 gauge slugs. My PTR and FAL are like a gentle push with .308 and I can shoot mag after mag all day, comfortably.

Aero is dying because they decided to stay in the democrat ran liberal shit pit of Washington, instead of moving to 2A friendly states like; Tennesse, Texas, Alabama, Montana, Wyoming etc. PSA has become the budget AR10 king by default. I mean, you could do worse, you could do better. If you wanted better and price wasn't an option, you wouldn't be asking random strangers for opinions. You want something cheap that works and the PSA line seems to be fine for the price. I still suggest building your own AR-10 over months using top grade parts, since it will be better than the Sabre-10 line.

PSA sabre lower (on sale)

That's part of the reason why I'm thinking about trading it in. I'm concerned it will eventually beat itself to death.

I thought that was weird. Slugs have a kick to them, but not to that point.

Yeah, I would be concerned for their long term viability for that reason. I would want something from a company that is going to be around for awhile so I can get compatible replacement parts.
>You want something cheap that works and the PSA line seems to be fine for the price.
You hit the nail on the head.
>I still suggest building your own AR-10 over months using top grade parts
I have been toying with the idea of building an AR for awhile, but that might be a little over my head, especially with AR10s since there are at least three different versions of them.

>Recommending Otter Creek for a SCAR
For a SCAR you need to go for a reduced back pressure silencer. Not an increased back pressure one. An Otter Creek will unironically destroy a SCAR unless you want to waste a ton of time and money getting gas adjustment parts for suppression that may or may not work. Just get a B&T RBS Ti for $900. It weighs 9 ounces with direct thread, is reduced back pressure, and is full auto rated for .308. Otter Creek was the shit a year ago, but that guy that owns it can't compete with 3D printed flow through titanium silencers.

The RC2762 is probably the best option for a 17, if only for the back pressure reduction to keep your SCAR from getting beaten up while still maintaining good sound reduction/flash without going full flow through.
diSCARder or SCARburator also recommended if you plan on suppressing more than 50% of the time.
The minimal POA/POI shift requirement from the Mk13 contract is also probably the best aside from TBAC.
Not quite the quietest, but definitely the most durable being rated for F/A and up to 300wm.
You could always track down an AAC 762SD with the old tooth mounts if you wanted it to look OG.

Does anyone know a good place to get this in motion?

Like any other "object de arte", what ever people are willing to pay. What are YOU willing to pay? Me? I wouldn't want to pay more that $1400, xfer, tax and shipping all told. This can be achieved. Under $1200 is great. The qd scope mount, ~$300 or.less, 10rnd mags @~$200? I would rather pay closer to $150/ea, but HK....

Both figures are in my personal mental gymnastics safe zone. Saving $120/year i $10/mo. You could have been saving $10/mo all this time, so just speand it and save it back.

HELP! I need /k/ advice since im not in the US:

Range buddy offered me a M1 Garand sniper. All original. I dont know which sniper but i guess the late one.
He wants 2500. Condition good.

Is a garand sniper worth it?
what to look for to avoid problems?
Can the optic be adjusted / zeroed easily or is it a special tool little setting range nightmare?
Can the optics be taken off / on easily or is it soldered / bolted in place ?

M1 is cool as fuck but 2500 is a lot if you have some mouths to feed, thx for any advice in advance.

pam for good feels.

No, but you're in bongtealand, where any firearm is treated like a nuke.

>what to look for to avoid problems?
Does the trigger snap with force?
Look down the barrel, is the barrel pitted or rusted? Does it look worn down or erroded?
Check the chamber where the rounds go, does the spring have good force?

>Can the optics be taken off / on easily or is it soldered / bolted in place ?
With tools.

Without unscrewing anything, I can shimmy the charging handle out for disassembly and get the bolt and everything out. However, getting it back in us a lot more difficult. I have to bend the upper sides of the handguard outward a little to be able to get the charging handle to go through on the opposite side.

Reminds me of the origin of the phrase
>so poor you don't have a pot to piss in
The Brittons really were 2nd or 3rd worldly, living in abject poverty, after centuries of oppression by thier "Royals" aqueezing them for taxes and literally cucking them, fucking thier wives (prima nocha). To the point that the best or only income for many was to bring thier urine in for money from the gunpowder factories to make salt peter from. The "salt", potasium nitrate, from your "peter". Well, some were sooo poor... (how poor were they?) That they didn't have a pot to piss in... true story. No wonder people came to America.

Saltpetre is from the latin for salt of the rock.
No saltpeter man would ever collect urine and they never paid for what soils they collected.
All that being 'so poor you had no pot to piss in' meant was you had to go outside at night to piss. Richer people could do so in the comfort of their bedroom.

Good music choice. Been binge-listening to 'North, South, East and West' and 'Under the Milky Way' recently.

Hey /brg/

My PTR91 started automatic firing at the range a few weeks ago. I was sighting in some optics and just having fun at 50m when all of a sudden my shots were inaccurate AF, like not even on my target sheet, then *gat-gat-gat*.
Took it to the local gunsmith who said he fixed it, but my second shot was a double tap... .
What do?

Have you function tested it assembled, and opened it up to diagnose the cause? Sounds like your gunsmith might not know PTRs very well, and I don't either but it sounds like the firing pin is either broken or being engaged automatically (is the hammer falling on the bolt on it's own?)

Autism is definitely a spectrum. About damn time I got a SCAR. Reciprocating handle so it's older but I can deal with it. Do I paint the black parts green to add to the woodland camo? I think it would look bitchin.

Not right away. The black/woodland 2 tone is great for now. Add a woodland camo sling first. Then a black optic and consider painting a mag or 2. Btw, one of the first SCARs I have liked looking at.
