Glock is discontinuing all .40 models. There is no clearer sign.

Good. It's a mediocre chambering with no clear upside. There is no reason to buy a gun in it unless you got a free 3000 round stockpile of ammo somehow.

Literally the only positive thing about 40 is that all ammo is flat nose by default and I wish that became standard with the other calibers.

Now the stockpiles of .40 ammunition can grow higher.
It's great news that Glock is discontinuing their garbage, let them continue.
(I want a Glock 46, the only Glock I'd ever purchase)

They're discounting the 17 because it's being replaced by the 47, same thing but with slide interchangeability with the 19 due to shortened dust cover. The 9mm roster will basically be 47, 19, 26, 17L for weirdos, 45, 43X, 48 and then I guarantee you they're going to release some kind of chop gripped 43 equivalent with mag compatibility with the 43x and 48.

Well, I expected this would happen eventually. They really fell hard out of the competition scene after everyone else started making better guns.

I honestly can't think of a reason why someone would buy a Glock in general nowadays unless they're buying like 100+ as part of a fleet order. Literally everyone else just makes a better Glock.

The other guns don't have a 40 year history of continuing to function after thousands of rounds of +p+, being dropped from planes, left in the ocean, etc etc. People trust Glock because of it's reputation and that takes time to develop. Lots of newer pistols end up having safety issues and recalls, not just the P320.

Glocks are pieces of shit. The .40 chambered ones didn't get properly engineeredโ€”after the fact โ€”to handle long term use of that round until the 2000s
(unlike HK USP and Beretta 8000 / Px4 which were properly engineered and specifically designed to handle .40 from paper)

Like the G19X has that certain something, a 2010s dream service pistol with FDE and everything, also note that it wasn't on the list
Gen 5s with the slide serrations don't have that aesthetic quality

I meant weirdos like me. I prefer long slides/barrels. I do weird shit like carry G26 with a G17 barrel. Short barrels are only popular because most people carry guns on the same belt that is holding up low-waisted pants, so their guns aren't riding nearly as high as they should be.

You must be new. In 1986 there was a shootout in Miami in which an FBI agent was killed by a suspect who failed to be incapacitated by a 9mm Winchester Silvertip round that failed to reach his heart after passing through his shoulder. The effectiveness of handgun bullets consequently became a big political issue and the FBI ultimately decided to switch to the 10mm cartridge developed by retired Marine Corps officer Jeff Cooper. The problem was the 10mm guns sucked and wore out fast and was too much for smaller starured and female officers to handle, so they watered it down. Then some engineer realized that the watered down load could fit inside a case that could be retrofitted into existing 9mm guns and thus the .40 short and weak was born. Then people realized that the 9mm was just as good with better bullets and they switched back to 9mm.

I would put a longer barrel in it. Short grip is good, makes the gun easier to hide. Short barrel accomplishes nothing whatsoever. I have concealed full size 1911 and competition pistols with barrels over 5" for over a decade. I don't know what kind of pants people are wearing that makes them think they need a short barrel.

>and was too much for smaller starured and female officers to handle
I can't imagine uncritically repeating decade old boomer brain rot like it's the truth. 10mm sucked for everyone and the FBI never adopted the super hot loads. John Hall, who was running the Firearms Training Unit and the cartridge tests, was such a 10mm fanboy that he brought his own gun in to test and his custom handload. At the time, the FBI wanted a .45ACP with a 180gr bullet. Hall's handloads replicated that in the 10mm Auto with a bit less kick.

The FBI adopted that 10mm load and had S&W build a 4506 in it to equip everyone. But, the pistols had a bunch of problems and so the contract was cancelled. While they were looking around for a new gun, they realized there was a shit load of empty space in the FBI cartridge. They shortened the case to remove the space and allow the cartridge to fit in 9mm framed guns, which made it easier to find guns.

There was never a super hot 10mm load that was adopted. .40 wasn't a watered down cartridge, it was the same as the FBI always wanted. 10mm auto is a meme cartridge with a fake popular history.

>Short grip is good
Honestly that's why I bought it.
The g20 grip is fuckoff huge, I'm not a ham planet, I can't hide that fucking thing anywhere.
I considered chopping a g20 grip for g29 mags, but for the 1/2" and change in extra length it was at the time I was like "why bother?"
I have thought about just getting an extended or threaded kkm barrel for it which would give me a little more oomph and probably will at some point.

>The FBI ruled out the hot loads in testing
They never even used them. They were going to get a 180gr .45 going before Hall stepped in with a custom 10mm load that replicated the performance of the .45 load they liked. The mythical hot 10mm load never entered the picture at literally any point. The "muh women and small men" myth is just made up bullshit that takes the baseless whining of boomers as gospel.

Don't buy it the Gen5s have issues. Unless you're rich of course and just want it as a collectible.
