Every goddamn nazi and soviet thing these days is fake. All of it, if you find anything real it's just that you're retarded. It's fake.

I would recommend getting into German army, luftwaffe helmets even before trying to get into SS helmet collecting like >>63817208
is saying at least for German militaria for every real there is at least 200 fakes, you should look into Ludwig baer's book on WW2 herman helmet's and Ken's ( although his book is very expensive to purchase). I saw from a quick search it's a good book but only 96 pages and doesn't have much picture's (b&w too) but does show real helmets. Stay away from ebay unless you have enough knowledge and check militaria dealers on their selection, but also be wary of them too.

I also remembered maybe also look into german Firefighter helmets or luftschutz helmets as they're still a bit under price depending on decals on both and condition

I want one of these simply because the idea of a glow in the dark stahlhelm is irresistibly silly

For knowledge, go for it
For possibly collecting, avoid heavily
All the real shit was bought up years ago in the 50s and boomers found gramps stash in the 70-80s. You are never going to find a real one for less than 10k and there is a chance it is fake. 99/100 times SS shit is fake

Forgive the dumb question but these arent radioactive are they? I heavily distrust anything that glows in the dark made before the 70s

Just not lick it, the type of radiation isn't enough to penetrate the skin.

WW2 and earlier soviet maybe, but later stuff was produced in such ridiculous amounts that you easily can find stuff, even if prices have gone up. Unless you are looking for special forces stuff of course

not my area as I don't like axis items or commie ones but in general all nazi material is heavily faked Its proof marks are not protected and is pretty easy to get stamps for all nazi markings.I have a few helmets modern ones with demining and riot visiors, cvc driver helmets as well as some indo persian and european 17th cetury helmets and they take up a lot of space, I display mine on speaker stands under spotlights

Sportsman's Guide is a good place to start but usgi stuff that isn't ucp is usually at a premium compared to other countries.
