Pic rel is the GEN-5B plate that supplemented the 28595s. It's apparently 4.4lb for a medium, so incrementally lighter. They're on at least GEN-6 now but I've never seen those "second hand".

Depends on shot spacing. Do recall that ceramics shatter locally around the point of impact. If you can land shots very close together, "unfair" hits, then you only have to engage already compromised strike face.
It will need to be within an inch of the original point of impact, if not closer. If you're all over the plate but somehow not hitting limbs, pelvis, head it will take a dozen hits if not more to guarantee a pass through.
Military plates are very robust. Shot spacing matters. Even cheap Chinese plates like Militech's SiC RF2 can handle nearly two dozen M855A1.
Aim around the plate or get something that can punch it on the first hit. For an XSAPI that will be difficult. Need something a lot hotter than M993 at 3,050ft/s. No known 5.56 load can do that. I'd start with M948 or 7.62 Swiss P AP.

This is good advice. Pelvis buys you mobility kills and the femoral arteries. Those will bleed someone out quickly but are not guaranteed stops like CNS hits.
Do note that pelvis armor is rapidly improving.

On the money again! Shields are cheaper than they've ever been, anyone can buy them from Warmag, Militech, Jinwudun, Botach if they like you, and they're quite cheap honestly. A III+ ceramic shield is no more than 1.6-2k and will eat a magazine or two of M855A1 given wide spacing.
Fortunately, shields outside of very rare wheeled models cap out at multi-hit Level IV. M993 can pierce. Of the extremely heavy $$$ varietals, Swiss P AP will do fine. M1158 is the key if you can source it.

If you ride the recoil up you'll get to the neck / head. Fortunately for you the only M855A1-rated helmet, the Diamond Age Bastion, turned out to be vaporware so unless there's a Waco-style equipment asspull (ATF had secret "cyclone" AP ammo) you're fine. Shitty plates like RMA 1155s or the very cheap Chinese from Aholdtech, Linry etc will fold after 3-6 hits if they're reasonably close.
This does not help you with shields or very exotic high multi hit plates such as LIBA, which can literally eat a whole magazine of M855A1 if it's the second gen version with the Armox intermediate layer.
This armor however is rare as hell outside of euro counterterror. That's liable to change however as Tencate has been getting some US contracts lately for other wares.

Funnily enough i paid $380 out the door for it, and it absolutely fucks. The sights were way off from the factory and the trigger shoe feels chinsy but those are my only complaints. It eats everything i feed it (flat nose fmj, hp, doesnt matter) and is way too easy to shoot well. I highly suggest going to rent one at an indoor range because describing how it shoots will never do it justice. Its kind of bizarre how good it actually is.

I think because i grew up shooting fudd guns it makes me enjoy modern firearms and optics. I still have fun playing with my dan wesson .357, k31, and mosin from time to time but i never touch my ithaca anymore after getting a 1301 for example. Lever actions are completely dead to me. what is a good set of flip/backup iron sights that isnt the magpul MBUS, I have been using them for many years and they are okay but im looking for something a little more slick/minimal since they dont get a lot of use

not sure if its a good idea, but I have always preferred open sights over peep holes, idk if they exist for ar15s, maybe its just my eyes

I know several people who have the money for proper gen 3 green tubes, but dont have any NV at all because they have been told if they dont spend 5 grand on a tube its somehow sub standard, when the difference is only a small percentage of performance, there is a price/performance curve and it flattens out rather quickly after OMNI 8 green tubes, and even more with any color unfilmed
