Disclaimer- I know nothing about airplane except a10 go brrr and that it's an old design.
Would they still be useful if you just used them like how zigroids are using their bombers? By that I mean, just using them as bomb sleds deep behind your own lines

>Go high up in friendly airspace
>Lob it to the front
>Repeat
Or is the A10 not able to reach the altitude required for this? I'd imagine you could retrofit one for bomb sled duty easily enough just because if that's all it's being used for you could remove the heavy ass gun and probably shave weight elsewhere, and I also heard they are pretty cheap as far as flight hours/maintenance goes, but being low altitude strafing jets would imply altitude is the main bottleneck to me as a non-plane knower
Or is it simply a matter of "we have enough resources for X planes and can't waste them on silly plan Y", needing dedicated pilots/maintenance/fuel etc for a strategy that might not be effective not being a good gamble
