I bought one for the meme and I'm happy with it. It works. It's fun to fuck around with. The mag release is where it would be on an ar magwell so reloading is not convenient.
I put the hera foregrip on it so it looks halo.
It is what it is. No malfunctions but not a high round count either

I'm seeing them in both the mag fed and tube fed versions online for less than $900 ($850 for the mag fed and tube fed for $700).
Its a modified Mossberg for a contract they had with someone. I assume it'll function as well as every other Mossberg.

I have little firsthand experience, but I've read and heard from a lot of people that the box mag versions (the -M variants) have feeding issues whereas the normal tube mag Mossbergs are famously reliable.

I played around with an MRO on a couple of my shotties. It was fucking terrible for shooting clays. I did like it on my slug gun, though I since moved it to my .44 mag levergat carbine and now I have a LPVO on the slug gun. I like the LPVO better on the slug gun because it's heavier and because it has elevation markings useful for shooting at longer range.

I could see some utility in the mag fed design for a close quarters shotty. Regular 18.5 inch 590 is a 6+1 while the same barrel length gets you 10+1 in the mag fed, 20+1 if you get the big fuck off magazine. All that said im in no rush to replace my 500. If I go through a whole 6 rounds of magnum #1 buck and the people on the other side still haven't fucked off I've got bigger problems than a shotgun could solve.

You might as well and sell whatever guns you don't use or need if you like the Beretta 1301. You're going to die anyway, so you might as well enjoy yourself while you're alive. Save up if you can't immediately buy it as well and you will have it anon. Think to yourself: Do I shoot my shotgun a lot? If yes, consider if it's worth it to you to get a higher-end semi auto shotgun.

I am probably going to end up buying this sooner or later:
- https://genesisarms.com/15rnd-drum-magazine/
- https://genesisarms.com/5rnd-magazine/

I need to see if I can have it customized in a certain way first before I bother and eventually FRT it.

There are smaller NFA models too, but I don't like those ones:
- https://genesisarms.com/firearms/12-gauge/

If anyone has used these and they're shit, then let me know, but everywhere I have asked says they're unreal, so who knows.

I love the Greener GP. It's annoying they weren't really a thing in the US. They're very solid, fun as hell to shoot, and cheap as shit in the UK. A buddy of mine bought one off gunsinternational that someone had fitted a rifled slug barrel on with express sights. you can get 20 inch turkey guns because the popular way to hunt turkeys for what ever reason is a 20 inch smooth bore with a red dot and a 3 or 3 and a half inch shell that kicks like an elephant round
>Besides, the barrel and tube always looks better when they're the same length.
a. wrong
b. the shorter mag tubes are better for hunting due to laws restricting them anyway and nearly every barrel a shotgun company makes is compatible with the shorter mag tubes. the longer mag tubes only work with 20 inch barrels

I'm right and you know it. The tube matching with the barrel will always be more aesthetically pleasing.

And the longer tubes are better for home defense due to the increased capacity. A 20 inch, 7+1 12 gauge shotgun is practically the gold standard for a home defense shotgun.

ghost rings are great for a "combat" gun you intend to shoot slugs and buck with. Also surprisingly capable of getting stuff in the air. Bead sights are also good but harder for precision stuff. Unrivalled for reflexive shooting. Dots really don't work for shotguns as well as we want them to, or better than either of the other two. The only real purpose they have is for turkey hunters imo

I have run a Benelli M4 with a trijicon SRO and scalarworks low profile mount for 1000+ rounds with no issue. Dot is extremely low profile and great for quick target acquisition.

I tried a Mossberg 940 optic ready with a holosun 507k and I am not a big fan. The window is too small, walls of the optic are too thick and the dot is too close to your eye. There is no recoil lugs on the shotguns red dot cutout and I find it loses zero. I tried a shield RMSx and although it had much larger glass window, I still did not like the rearward position on the shotgun.

Most recent purchase was a Mossberg 590 retrograde with a new Vortex viper enclosed multireticle. Although it's got slightly more profile than the SRO and RMSx, I really find the multi reticle options useful for shotgun work and the direct mount to the receiver of most shotguns is a godsend. I also really like to deal with Vortex over other companies. If the optic survives a year of skeet and hunting I will pretty much exclusively use and recommend these dots over anything else.

Oh please let us know how the viper works out for you, I'm saving up to buy the tan A300 Ultima and I've been liking the viper for it.

The real question is can you afford it. 410s very pleasant to shoot but why when 12 or 20 is cheaper? What can you hunt with a 410 that you couldn't with a 12? The answer is nothing. You can argue well less recoil means you can shoot more except it costs more than 12. By a large margin. If you are a really old man with money to burn, teaching a child to shoot, or a retard with a judge 410 has a niche. For normal people nah.

Depends what you want it for. I have one of these 3 shot noricas and took it claying, I enjoyed the challenge and didn't do much worse than I would with a 12g. I dont have much other use for it now unless I'm teaching an under 16 to shoot.
Be good for rabbits and anything smaller but I don't shoot those, and for birds I use a 12g.

Aftermarket lever spring kits exist that improved the lever. Turkish guns dominate here and they range from pretty good to garbage (like everywhere else). Push button/Lever release shotties like pic rel are the current fad here.

Quick question: Wood furniture on a mariner Mossberg 590: Yay or Nay? If so, what wood?

IMHO, the .410 is a serious expert's gun. It has two main uses:
a) competitive skeet shooting where you are shooting all 4 gauges (12, 20, 28, .410)
b) if you are a serious outdoorsman who does a lot of upland style hunting of small game where you're walking around a lot and you really want a light gun, AND you're good enough that you can get away with the .410 instead of a larger gun.

Some people recommend them for kids but I don't think that's all that wise. .410 ammo is expensive to train with and it also throws a pretty small pattern which can make it frustrating to hit with for a new shooter. Some kids might take to a .410 but in my experience a 20ga with low recoil loads is much better. It's easier to hit with, which means less frustration.

What are you doing with it? If this is actually for a boat, or a gun you might take in the field then it's hard to argue with laminated stocks. They're weatherproof and super durable. If it's a range toy or a larpstick then go with whatever you think looks best. In my opinion guns that have a "stainless" or similar light colored finish look best with either lighter colored woods with a bit of a honey sort of color (stain), or extremely dark, almost black color. The more usual brown stock tones look best with blued metal, IMHO.

If you’re buying a Mariner because you’re a lazy piece of shit that can’t be assed to clean their guns? Plastic. If you’re buying it because you actually clean and take care of your guns? Wood.

I've had the Mariner 590 for a long time now (2019, first ever shotgun too). I never really considered wood for a stainless shotgun, but after I saw a Winchester 1300 that someone had polished, I knew I wanted something similar to my shotgun. Any recommendations on who makes the best wood furniture?

The current production mossberg factory "walnut" furniture is absolute crap. Do not spend more than $5 on a set. Woox looks gay as hell, so your best bet is find some old furniture on numrich or ebay and refinish if needed.

I bet it would look great with nice wood, but it seems that Woox stuff is 'gucci' not super grade wood.

Stock making is very time consuming. There are custom stock makers out there, and they do an amazing job, but one will cost you as much as an entire pallet of 590s.

2nding this.
Another option if you want fancy wood is that there are many companies which do 'gunstock duplication'. This works as follows: you send your stock to them, and pick whatever type of wood you want. They put the wood blank in a machine which cuts it into a 1:1 copy of your original. Then it's a matter of finishing it, which you could do yourself or pay them to do for you. You could pick whatever wood you want from hot pink laminate to $5k presentation grade walnut.

NTA but any recommendations for low recoil brands? Looking for something slightly bigger (no. 4 buck or similar) and there's not much choice, double that for 20ga.

Fuck I want Remington to bring those folders back so bad. Nu-Remington would be swimming in fucking money right now if they did. Just so they don't fuck it up and make it from nylon with that awful cheap bead blasted mold texture; it needs to be satin or gloss. That's the part a lot of companies fuck up when re-releasing old polymer products and it drives me nuts.

Not for buckshot, but for shooting clays or small game at short range I like Fiocchi. The "Extra Low Recoil" in the blue box, sometimes also called "Exacta", is very good if you want a quality low-recoil shell. The "Shooting Dynamics low recoil" in the red box is the same recoil but is a cheaper. It doesn't pattern quite as well but it's still good ammo. They are excellent in 12ga as well.
