what's the point of the radar if the radar can't detect the plane that's about to wreck your shit?
Anonymous No.63837994
>>63837968
yes, there is generally no point to obsolete radars

While the truck matches Nebo better, it seems to have bigger, more sparse vibrators - like Spoon Rest. And I count 4 elements to either side of center column, but can't see more than one row.

Either way it's some sort of Russian low-band contraption.

it's a DECO model Y

That's early warning radar. Ideally, it tells AD there's something over there and to take a look. Of course Iran has already been WEASLED so that was probably just there to warn the mullahs another strike package was inbound.

Could be a domestic, Nork or Chinese equivalent.

Thirdies have deluded themselves into thinking that low band radars counter stealth planes.
Which is funny since they consistently get their shit pushed in by Israeli F35s, but somehow they still cling to that believe.

Its less delusion and more cope. Low band CAN be effective, its just hard to arranage the circumstances and the overall effect is moderate at best. Its basically the only option they have though so I can't really blame them (though I will still laugh).

They do, although typically they cooperate on joint development then make their own separate versions since despite being allies they basically aliens to each other with vastly differing requirements, cultures ect. In a way it is an advantage since questions like ideology, religion and culture never become a issue since there is no common ground to start a argument in the first place.

they have a similar configuration, it's just that pictures of the Fajrs I've seen aren't as big
either this is a different model, or I misjudged the picture

I can't imagine they would look that different or even operate much differently. As far as i can tell a Chinese radar isn't likely which leave domestic Iranian, Nork or Russian systems. The antenna would look and work the same no matter what as would the truck and it's generator.

They are objectively useful, destroying them is a high priority mission for Israel. The fact that they bragged about it proves that.

I can't find images for the the Fajir-2 deployed nor the Nork equivalent which unsurprisingly is hard to find despite my decades long efforts to get them to sent me their AD OOB for educational reasons only.

My semi educated guess is that 50/50 it was either a Russian system or a Iran/Nork copy.

Still a good hit, i suspect that if Iran was smart they were not using it to try to track Israeli aircraft but to track the timing and initial trajectories of their own missile and drone launches. At this point i believe they would primarily best used by Iran in that capacity and as warning systems secondly.

Using them makes them a huge target, they have a very brief life span if they are not supported. If Iran was competent they would use them to invite attack as AA traps but i have doubts that their CnC can do that right now.

I may be mistaken, once in a blue moon Iran isn't retarded however Islam and Judaism both use the lunar calendar and Iran seems to have not noticed that it was old testament o'clock.

the longer VHF wave lengths can be used to vaguely sense that there is an aircraft somewhere within an area of around 40 kilometres.
ideally this information can then be used to help aim shorter wave length radars to where they are most needed.
>also
fancy radars are expensive

I'm so glad the Israelis have proved that all the thirdie and chink cope about detecting stealth with "muh low garage band radar" was all just so much bullshit.
