how good are colt revolvers? i was thinking of getting a gp100, but there's a nice looking colt viper at the LGS for $979 and the gp100 i was looking at was going to be around that price for a nice stainless barrel.

After eons of hemming and hawing, I finally bought my first personal handgun. Got an excellent deal on a factory new Beretta 92FS Brigadier for $730, was overstocked. Always wanted one of the 90 line because I'm a big Resident Evil fan. I understand that the grips are usually replaced, because the rubber is pretty bulky. Any recommendations on what type of material I should use? Are there any other modifications I should make? I'm going to shoot with it as-is before fiddling with it, but I'd like to hear opinions.

I got these grips recently and they were worth every penny. It feels almost like a brand new gun.

Other people might tell you to make changes to your 92 but I wouldn't do that until you have at least 2,000 rounds through it. Ignore Langdon shills

First try loosening the grip screw, if you over tighten the screw it'll ride high enough to disturb the hammer causing light strikes. If this doesn't resolve your issue then get a fresh spring kit. Fixed my 15-VH like a charm, but loosen the grip screw / replace with a shorter one.

>Buckshot or slugs?

Both, but only a handfull of slugs. I've just got over a cold the past two weeks. I just couldn't handle it. Put 20 of those mini slugs through it, and a bunch of 7.5 shot. 75 rounds total. Is the Federal Top Gun 7.5 really hot or something? I don't remember regular bird shot being so brutal to shoot.

Anyways, after taking down the gun and giving it a light cleaning, lube and assembly, the action is already much, much smoother. Very happy about that. No more grit, but also not buttery smooth like my other shotguns that have been broken in.

I'm only 600 rounds in, but I love it so far. It feels so much more solid and higher quality than anything else in the micro segment that I've held or shot. The irons are great, the ergos fit me to a T, and the trigger is light years better than anything else in the segment. As a big HKaboo, I like paddles too, but I have plenty of guns with buttons, so they aren't a deal breaker. I will say the button placement is such that you won't likely accientally eject a mag while sooting under duress (something seen in a lot of police shooting videos). Also, the buttons are easy to press and really forcefully eject the mags. I can't think of any gun that shoots out mags this hard.

I got a Phlster Ligma for it, and once I git gud nuff it'll become my daily CCW (currently carry a VP9SK). I'm working on my trigger pulls now. I flinch when I shoot and being a micro, my mistakes are very unforgiving. When shooting from a rest though, the gun is dead accurate, so I know it's a me problem (I admittedly have it with most guns, especially when new to me).

The only complaints I have so far are the sights were both off centered to the left (easy fix if you have a sight pusher) and it can feel a little slippery. I might put some kind of grip tape on it eventually.

Cool. Thank you for the detailed report. I'll check out the CC9. I'm currently carrying my .357 P2000. I'm in a rural area so it's kind of overkill carrying that to go grocery shopping but the CC9 looks like it would fit the niche for an in-town gun. Would still carry the P2000 if I was headed into a city.

I'd like to step forward and say that my P320 and P365 are more pleasant and better to shoot than this in nearly every way.
It was ejecting brass straight up and it was landing on my forearm, not to mention jamming roughly every 3rd shot.
Slide release and mag release are genuinely the worst that I have used on a handgun.
Cool they did a Gen 1 re-release though, always wanted a 90s movie Glock.

Nice. If you're comfortable with a P2K, then the CC9 grip shouldn't be anymore slippery. I really like the P2K and P2KSK. The CC9 is harder to shoot than the P2KSK IMO, on account of being a micro. However, it'll be easier to carry. These are still hard to find in stock though. The lowest I've seen is $520, but that sold out instantly. Keep an in-stock alert at your favorite online retailers and you'll be able to snag one around $600 before too long.

Can you buy unlimited handguns now or is it a cap like 10? If it was capped id be only buying really nice guns. Id say to get a smith or a Ruger but QC nowadays can be spotty and idk how warranties work over there and how many gunsmiths there are near you. I will say if you get a chiappa with a rail it's the easiest revolver to mount a light and a scope or red dot on, which I see as a huge plus for fun or hunting.

It's definitely possible. You either have the skill to do it with almost any gun, or you inadvertently do it with some guns. I notice those who are new to shooting can do this from time to time. They are holding the gun correctly, but let go of their grip with the shock of the gun going off and that causes a jam.
There was a guy on youtube that was able to get a Glock 32 to limpwrist jam on command to prove this point. That gun is probably the most reliable Glock ever made, so that's saying something.

He didn't ask for the 'best' trigger. He asked for .357 revolver with a decent trigger that wouldn't beat itself to death. SP101 maps perfectly to those requirements.

J-frames are fine too, but they are factually, provably weaker and will wear out faster on a diet of hot .357 than an SP101 will.

As the owner of a GP100 and a 686, I'll concede that the 686 has a superior trigger pull in both SA and DA. Almost every other thing about the GP100 is better, especially for someone wanting a 'woods gun'.

The SA pull on an SP101 is far superior to the trigger pull on any striker fired handgun in existence and better than the SA pull on most DA/SA autos. If that doesn't constitute 'decent' then you're either illiterate or intentionally obtuse. So, I'm leaning a bit of both + brand fag.

The Trausch grip is admittedly pretty cool and gives a nice grip. However, on the SP101, it requires a long spur that attaches to the grip peg, otherwise the grip peg would only go about halfway down the grip and not be very secure. The Trausch grips for S&Ws are better looking since they look just like the MR73 grip and better secured since the grip frame runs almost the whole length. Pic related, the stainless one is a rental. Sadly though, the Pachmayr Professional does a better job of dampening recoil (at least in my opinion) from .357s.
>>63847231
Yeah, no shit the SA pull on a revolver is better than everything else other than other revolvers, that doesn't make the SP101 anywhere close to "decent" in the context of revolvers, or even other pocket revolvers in its class. A bad DA trigger ruins a DA revolver. I'm not shitting on Ruger revolvers as a whole, but their pocket revolver triggers are bad.

Figured I'd ask here instead of making a thread for it. Relatively new to the handgun world and I want to get an optic. For information:
>What exactly do the "footprints" mean for slides?
I have a PSA dagger. I has a RMR footprint. So this means that I need to get a "RMR" optic? What would you suggest? I'm not getting a Chinese made optic.
>How do adapters work?
If there is an optic that is some other footprint, am I able to get an adapter to swap it over? Does this make the optic less reliable? I imagine that the adapter plate causes the optic to "rise" a bit more, right?

kind of a side point, but handgun cycling is more finicky than you'd think. Its a bit of a hidden problem in the sense that since handguns are designed and tested for function by people actually shooting them designs have over time naturally focused on just that, proper cycling when held in the human hand with a reasonably good grip. We're well over 100yrs in to designing reasonably reliable semi-automatic handguns at this point and pretty much all designs are based on other designs to some degree. You can actually see somewhat similar problems caused by other issues like a handgun fired from a chassis, or the addition of weight to the back of the slide(some optic designs) increasing rotational forces under recoil. These are much less common though. The moment the round goes off recoil begins, it takes a small amount of time for the gun to unlock and begin cycling, when the gun is held loosely some of the energy that would otherwise be transferred to the slide is instead used up moving the whole mass of the firearm. The firearm will also continue to move while the slide itself is moving further increasing issues. Crude example, but think of using a hammer to hit something, if you use a firm grip almost all of the force is transferred to what you are hitting, if you use a really weak grip then some of the force is going to be used up by the hammer itself moving in your hand. Every handgun has a range of tolerances in terms of lubrication, cleanliness, and the firmness of your grip under which it will perform with adequate reliability. Changes to any of these parameters outside of that norm will degrade reliability.

lmao, the 32 and all of glocks .357 sig guns for that matter had TONS of reliability issues. They went through like 14-15 revisions of the mag followers alone to try to get the gun more reliable and there are entire lore dumps with conflicting answers on which one is the magic fix for FTF problems. Frankly I'm convinced the whole "bottle neck increases reliability" thing is a complete meme as far as .357 sig goes

A footprint is the pattern the optic mounts to, like how socket sizes work.

There are MANY optics with RMR footprints, it's the most common. There aren't many that aren't made in chiner though. This chart may help ,if it lacks a red country mark, it's almost certainly made in china or taiwan, though rarely in Japan. I should redo it to include Japan but it's hard to find that info sometimes

Anyway, don't use an adapter. You are adding height and additional screw interfaces that serve no purpose, the difference in cost of an optic will be less than an adapter and it will be more secure mounted directly. The best way to mount an optic is directly to the slide with no plate, where applicable. And to be clear I am talking about adapter plates that change one footprint to another, not factory plates which simply change which optic footprint can be mounted to a slide as these are different things. Most optic solutions use plates but the Dagger does not

Holy shit, that image is amazing. So hard to find what kind of stuff would be good. Thanks. I'll probably get a Trijicon. I don't mind spending that much if it means I get something that will last a while. Which I do see the irony in getting a Dagger. Is the Trijicon RMRcc for smaller "concealed carry" guns? What's the difference between that and the normal RMR. The Trijicon Type 2 seems to be fine, but what should I expect with it?

lastly, are there fakes out there? On Trijicon's website it's listed at pretty much $800. on Amazon I've found one listed at $500. That seems like way too much of a discrepancy for it to be legitimate.

RMRs are very durable, the tradeoff is the lenses are more tinted and have more distortion. I don't like them for that reason but they are high quality (as are a lot of chinese dots)

The RMRcc has a different footprint and yeah it's about 1/10" skinnier for skinnier slides

MSRP is meaningless. Yeah there are fakes but you're not likely to encounter them outside ebay. Or MAYYYYBE an Amazon return. Find the exact model of RMR you want (probably adjustable, and probably 3.25 MOA dot as a middle ground) and put the SKU or MPU into gun.deals or poke around for used ones on gun forums. $500 is too much for a new RMR. Here's the 3.25 MOA adjustable for example
https://gun.deals/search/apachesolr_search/719307614239

If you have astigmatism a larger dot can help

That's interesting, but does anything use those four front lugs? This is not unprecedented, the Romeo 3 Max Pro has recoil lug holes for DPP and C-More patterns but you can ignore either depending on what you use (assuming the gun has a cutout big enough to fit)

Holosun K isn't strictly Shield either though the Holosun K footprint is so popular now I may as well notate it separately, in the same way that the DPP is notated differently from Shield even though they use the same screw and pin dimensions

I've had a Glock 19 Gen 5 for a few years now, but just now considering getting a red dot for it and I have no knowledge of the process. I've done some research but if anyone could share some wisdom or opinion, I'd appreciate it.
I landed on a Holosun 407k since 6 MOA seems like a good middle ground and budget red dot. I figure I have a couple of options: send the slide in to be milled or just buy a new slide with one already installed. I'm not sure what else needs to be done if I send it to be milled, like a mounting plate or something else I'm not aware of.
Alternatively, I found a package on a complete upper that includes a 407k, for about $100 more than sending it to be milled and buying the dot separately. The upper has some blowhole shit on it which is negligible and looks meh. But I guess I'll have a 2nd set of upper parts and don't have to cut the factory slide.
So I guess the trade-offs are looks and money vs convenience and backup parts. Thoughts?

That said, I have been hearing a lot of bitching about these mags from other people with 17's and 19's, Gen 3's, Gen 4's and Gen 5's saying the mags suck, induce failures, blah blah.

Yes, the 96 frame has a larger cut out at the front of magazine โ€œas feed rampsโ€ but ideally the round never touches the frame and goes directly into the barrel. The 90 series has no frame feeding ramp, the rounds should go directly into the barrel but sometimes they donโ€™t as you can see the brass/copper marks on the frame.

The .22 slide might need a heavier hammer spring to detonate the primers, some people have issues with the stock 16 pound spring and have to switch to the older 20 pound spring from the M9

The real issue is the additional weight on the barrel, since almost all semiautomatic handguns need the barrel to move to unlock the action to cycle. A heavy comp requires a lot more energy to move and so the gun wastes all its recoil energy getting it to move and then not enough energy to cycle the action. Not gas pressure.

People run hotter ammo to increase recoil forces to cycle and also to increase gas pressure at the ports to generate more downwards force. With 10mm and other calibers you can generate negative recoil force where the gun dips from the compensator.

People also run lighter recoil springs since the slide has already been slowed down from the heavy comp. This makes the cycling the action easier. With that comp and that recommended spring I can air rack the gun by punching the air with it. I have done it at parties and itโ€™s really embarrassing thinking about it.

With big comps you need to pair the ammo and springs to get perfect equilibrium. One anonโ€™s comp set up starts jamming when it gets dirty, he probably needed hotter ammo

>It's got basically .357mag ballistics which everyone agrees is more gooder than shitty 9mm. And even moreso the improvement of just vanilla 9mm over .38spl/.380 that /k/ also hates, somehow. Is it just noguns fags malding about the capacity meme?

I think they are a bunch of noguns/poors who don't realize that when you buy a pistol it doesn't have to be one you shoot all the time or practice with. You can have something you shoot once in a while in a different caliber. Finding good cheap ammo for me was never a problem, so I'm stocked up. Sure I don't go and shoot a few hundred rounds of it at the range. What's the point? After shooting 9mm, and a few mags of 357 I am doing just as good.
I also think 10mm being the end all of auto loading power cartridges also hurt it's reputation. Go big or go home mentality. I'd agree, but I loathe 10mm. Only have a Glock 20, but it's impossible for me to shoot it fast, so for self-defense it's out of question.

With the powerful Buffalo Bore rounds, it kicks the whole gun up and I have to aim again. That takes a few seconds to do a follow up shot. With full power .347 Sig that sight comes back down in a split second as long as you hold it tight. 10mm is just a "Oh you want to see what a powerful round feels like?" round for me.

Paul Harrell always has "you be the judge" as the end of the video. Paul specifically bought "FBI spec" 10mm loads which is literally what became .40 S&W (first called 10mm Short) which in my opinion for a police caliber the sweet spot of power and capacity. My opinion. He did not buy the Mega Death Galactic Assassin 10mm loads.

He bought 3 American manufacture ammos, since he considers those common, and that video was a long time ago. Nowadays there's alot of different options available online, I buy Magtech 10mm JHP since it's 180 gr @ 1200 FPS (1150 actual), which from the chronographs I've seen is not lying. It is ~200 fps faster than Magtech .40 S&W and it preforms better in the same gel, .40 S&W has more penetration since it doesn't expand as well since they're using the same projectile. Several manufacturers have settled at 1150-1200 FPS with a 180 gr to be the "full power" load of 10mm, Winchester sells defensive ammo at that power, Magtech sells JHP and FMJ it at that power, actually here is a list from this guy chronographs ammo out of his 10mm.
https://www.glocktalk.com/threads/which-factory-10mm-loads-are-full-power-with-chrono-results-of-53-factory-loads.1944420/
where you can see there is a huge difference between different factory loads

you took 3 boxes of ammo, from 2 manufacturers, to be all 10mm.

never was, it was a barren land since mexicans couldn't settle it due to the Comanche. White Texan settlers were allowed to settle by Mexico to act as meat shields to mexico, a buffer state, mexicans called Tejanos settled there as well after the whites. Santa Ana abolished the mexican consitiution and or something and then several states rebelled, Texas included which lead to the Alamo and then Santa Ana's death and Texas independence. Tejanos were welcomed as neighbors since they fought shoulder to shoulder against Santa Ana, they are NOT mexican.

Not as good as my grandpa's broke in model 66 or an actual trigger job, but like 8lb and super smooth in DA, single action is maybe 2.5lbs. lock up is really tight. all the edges are kinda rounded and beveled. price is a little high. would be fair if new. imo its basically a French 686 and should be priced accordingly. they are not uncommon at all, just French cop guns. used to see them on gun broker for $500 ish before the 73 got the guntoober hype. it's got a nicer trigger than the Ruger, but it's not hand fit to the same degree as the 73. if you don't have a problem paying a premium to get something different then it's fine, but you'll probably find one cheaper if your patient.

that looks like someone who signed a contract with Uncle Sam and doesn't have a choice. Also, wtf happened to the gun? looks like it got dropped off a roof or ran over.

Unironically the Pedro Baretta 95FS since it was designed for the most retarded jarheads on Earth and has the best price to performance aftermarket. It's really reliable, soft shooting, has a novel firing system, simple controls, and it also looks cool.

it is, and sadly I feel they would use the lack of sales to justify continued lockage if not for lipseys doing the Lord's work. also, the mountain gun is very svelte and not that big feeling (i have larger to xl hands). it's an L frame, but it's pretty light. it's only 3 ounces more than a 4 inch sp101 with 2 more rounds, to put things in context.

Blazer is solid too, but I just like the Federal AE best. I still have just under 2k rounds left of it, so I'll be patient and wait for my AE 147gr to come back in stock. It's interesting how ammo hoes in waves like this and can't just always be in stock like other things.

It's really sad to see how much /hg/ has devolved in such a short time. Goes to show just how damage one committed person can do to a community. If you want to destroy a general, you don't do it by spamming nsfw, you do it by posting low quality, on-topic, mass replies, and prematurely bake almost every OP. This let's a shitty person with no connection to the established culture hijack the general so they can control every conversation in every thread, and not get banned. It's no wonder most of the regulars stopped posting here.
