I'm a little confused on how hitting a research center for a relatively rich country is worth it enough to waste a missile on it. It's night so presumably the scientists were at home, and the Israelis could build a bunch more research facilities relatively quickly if they want. Seems like it would make more sense to hit an airfield with that missile instead of a lab

Again, Israel has been able to fly with impunity in Iranian air space, not just with jets, but with C-130's? That means Iran doesn't have any AA to attack these aircraft. Additionally Israel has killed generals, commanders, scientists and important people with these attacks... Again, this is something that actually causes damage to the state beyond the immediate. How any of what you said applies to Iran where Iran is unable to defend itself from Israeli aircraft shows they don't have 'strategic depth'.
