The clerk is retarded. Kydex is just superior. It retains better, for longer, and more safely, while contacting less of the gun so your finish holds up better.
The downside of kydex revolver holsters is that revolver owners are retarded boomers so there isn't a lot of demand for them. Options are extremely limited and prices are high. Getting a really nice leather holster can also cost $200+.
You don't have to fuck with your revolver. After 2000 dry fires your trigger will smooth out fine anyway. Also wood is a shitty porous material that doesn't absorb recoil as well as G10 or rubber. G10 is the best material for revolver grips because it can take a great texture that will last forever and significantly reduces recoil. Wood grips are hard and unforgiving while not significantly reducing recoil, plus they need to actually be carved for texturing to hold up and most places cheap out and do shitty laser engraving, which will not hold up.

Recoil absorption is basically entirely about surface area. Too many rubber or G10 grips are too skinny and don't do shit to spread out recoil forces in your hand. On my N frame for instance, the wood target grips are by far the best performing when it comes to recoil dampening than anything else I've tried, and it's because they're wider than the others, especially towards the top.

Stainless guns CAN rust if the conditions are right, but should not be a factor. He had a blued Garrison.

9mm 1911s can be finicky but should be figured out by now. Use quality magazines, try different magazines since with 9mm there are different styles in how they place the round in the magazine. If that doesn’t work you can send it back to Springfield for warranty work. Their 1911 service I heard is decent.

The m9 is a good choice, has probably the best price to performance ratio among the DA/SA’s of its time. The aftermarket trigger work (Langdon Tactical) is perhaps one of the best DA/SA triggers.

You posted the carry, which is aluminum frame decocker lever. The Shadow 2 Compact is steel framed safety lever, which is more for this specific IDPA class than being an actual carry gun. If you’re going to carry a DA/SA it ought to be hammer down, which for the guns without decocker levers you must manually decock the hammer. This is a dangerous maneuver since you pull the trigger to release the hammer on a live round, you must carefully lower it.

Carrying steel vs aluminum, a lighter gun feels better to carry, light enough and you’ll forget it’s there. I cannot forget them I’m carrying my steel commander sized 1911, probably because I’m carrying 3 spare magazines of .45 ACP

I think the Compact is safety only since with CZs something about the decocker mechanism makes the trigger pull worse, so competition shooters go for safety only. I don’t know, I only own good guns like Berettas

I think 10mm is a fun cartridge, I like shooting more powerful ammo so that’s just me. If you do not sufficiently train with the 10mm then do not carry it over the 9mm. You can purchase better 9mm ammo to deal with wild life without spending money on an entirely new platform, unless you want a new gun which is what it sounds like.

Winchester Service Grade is a nearly +P+ (it’s on the edge of +P) FMJ round for 9mm, it’s a 115 gr projectile going 1300 fps which is 440 ft lbs. 10% more powerful than 9mm NATO, it’s also the U.S. army’s new round, it’s also 25 cents a round and I use it for practice. There’s solid copper penetrators available too which would be more than enough for bears or people wearing soft body armor.

No no no, CZ made two models of smaller Shadow 2s. They made the Shadow 2 Compact which in my eyes is a competition gun mislabeled as a carry gun, and the Shadow 2 Carry which is a carry gun. IIRC YouTubers and other reviewers misrepresented the Compact as a carry gun while CZ never intended it to be, while the Carry is officially advertised as a carry gun. It had a very good commercial staring their sponsored competitive shooter.

If you don’t know if you’ll be able to carry the weight of the Compact or have to live with manually lowering the hammer, then get the Carry 100%. I heard the Carry trigger was better than standard CZs so they might have fixed the whole decocker trigger pull issue.

The Dan Wesson DWX compact is a really cool option if you’re fine with carrying SAO.

My DA/SA carry gun of choice is a LTT PX4 Compact, but right now I love 1911s so I’m carrying a 1911 instead. You get over the SAO hammer cocked thing after a while.

I’ve shot a 10mm P220, I think I’ve shot a polymer 10mm of some sort but it might have not made any sort of impression (probably didn’t shoot one). I’ve heard of issues with the 10mm M&P 2.0 but have no more knowledge than that, if I had to get a polymer 10mm it would probably be a Glock 20 (aftermarket support is better) and then get a KKM threaded barrel and comp.

10mm is around 40 cents per round for decent ammo like Magtech.

I would suggest the xd mod 3 or Taurus ts9, I have the ts9 and it is a sweet shooter, very nice recoil impulse. You can find them for around $270 or so locally if you look around.
The xd is even cheaper and come with an optics cut. I have a mod 1 as it was cheap and its shoots good too.

Anyone have recommendations for what the best setup for paper targets would be on a private range? I have 60 acres and a few steel targets set up, but it's difficult to train accuracy on steel beyond just being accurate enough to hit the steel. I want to start punching paper but it's really fucking annoying (so far) to set up paper targets.

There is the Springfield Prodigy Compact which I would never trust my life with.

The alpha foxtrot S1911 is a 1911 that takes shield arms 15 round Glock mags, I have only see one anon with one and worked well. This one is truly compact.

Otherwise there is nothing close to your 1k price tag. There are Tisas and MAC 2011s in the commander size but to get the shorter grip you have to do some work. People have been able to buy the Springfield Prodigy compact’s grip module

No. The only trustworthy compact 19/2011 type compacts are way more than $1,000. Like the wilson combat SFX9. 1911s commonly have problems with hollowpoints because of the multi piece feed ramp and magazine design. A lot of times a 1911 will run like clockwork with one magazine and be a total piece of shit with another, my RIA is picky like that, it is nearly perfect with the right mag and makes you want to huck it at the backstop with the wrong mag. My Colt runs fine with almost any mag I have.

TL;DR: no, you can't afford a reliable 19/2011 compact on that budget. Buy an old P229 it's the next best thing.
