Okay anons

I know this isn't SUPER related to the thread but help a guy out. About a year ago there was a plane thread and someone randomly linked the dropbox to this story named a-10 and pilot, and it was actually a super fucking good read, but I haven't been able to find jack or shit else about it online. Did the author ever finish it? I'm unironically invested in the plot.

OC from WWII weekend with partial plane. And maybe another if I can find it.
Anonymous No.63865423 >>63869625
Okay here it is. Not sure if it's an original as my plane knowledge is pretty poor. The one next to it was a copy of an original IIRC and had been in several movies which were listed back near the tail.

That's a T-6 Texan. Easiest tells are the gear legs, a Zero would have longer. Or the prop only having two blades, Zeros have three. Overall, the body of a Texan is stubbier and the wings have a different shape.
Anonymous No.63869632 >>63871258
Question. Why did wing-root integrated engines go out of style? Was it an efficiency / maintenance trade-off?
Anonymous No.63869684
>>63869625
TY. I didn't get a pic of the other plane but it did have movie credits that I got a pic of. From what I understand, Zeros are pretty fucking rare so I understand no one willing to fly in an original. I highly recommend checking out WWII weekend if you're in the area; easily a multi-day experience. It's at the Reading (PA) airport once a year.

More expensive to maintain than podded engines, cannot be used with high bypass turbofan engines(maximum diameter too small), greater chance of the wing root being damaged in an engine failure. The smaller parasite drag tradeoff is often not worth it.

To be honest might not be a bad idea legit. Long loiter time and a relatively stable platform to shoot from. Might be decent for swatting them out the skies.

Anyway pic related might be the most overlooked dive bomber of WW2. It was pretty great in its role despite looking outdated.
