So I bought 2 FILBE hydration pouches, a sustainment pouch, and an extra canteen pouch -- none of which will fit onto my smaller-than-I-thought civilian 3-day pack. What do I do with this shit? Buy a sub belt or main pack or something?

What are you doing? You have to be a troll at this point.

Anyone else know if I can get away putting 11x5 soft armor inserts for side armor if my cumberbund can fit 13.75x5.5 inserts or are they going to slide around and be an issue? Coverage should be fine, I'm just concerned if they're going to be sliding around a bunch in the cummerbund. Thanks.

Couldn't attach more pouches if I wanted to, I've been able to fit everything I need for 2-3 nights so far though. Non-backpacker tent stuffs nicely into a barracks bag wedged in the big pocket thing between compartments, E tool and canteen/larp cup/stove strap nicely to the sides, hatchet/tent poles fit snugly into the side pockets, sleeping bag doesn't take up much space in the main compartment, nice open spot at the bottom for a rolled sleeping pad. Plenty of space for food, clothes, and little kits. Am I forgetting anything major?

To add onto this, it basically doesn't matter what "hard" credentials you have unless those credentials get you around some kind of experiential or knowledge "wall"
Some SEAL that starts a coffee company is not automatically an SME on everything. About certain things, sure. You see that twenty times a day on the internet. An FBI HRT dude that has ten years of experience breaching doors with a variety of tools, however, is very much an SME when it comes to breaching doors with a variety of tools and other associated tactics / skills. Might not be your guy in other areas.
Take the old 90s gunfighters for example. Massad Ayoob was a reserve cop with limited actual combat experience. His books are mostly techniques and second-hand accounts.
Gabriel Suarez was a SWAT officer with substantially more aggressive "field" experience, but his advice aged significantly worse because he sold out (lots of dropping and then recommending different platforms, ran Suarez International too), had some out-there theories, and also had a bit of a mental snap.
Overall, while neither guy is on a pedestal, Ayoob (aside from his ".357 has a stunning effect" comment) aged significantly better.
Soft and hard credentials both matter, but one isn't a substitute for the other.

Agreed. For one example, the Hesco 4800 (soon to be 4801, which is arguably a downgrade like many of Hesco's newer plates) and LTC 26310 only exist because people are willing to pay thousands to lose a few pounds of armor.
This goes double for soft armor and helmets.

You don't need an e-tool on your kit unless you're digging fighting positions. Use a garden trowel if it's just for poopy.

I'd be trying to slim down on the tent as well. Take the ponchopill. Hate every time you sleep outdoors.

You're probably not gonna make it father than 10 miles with that setup, but it's fine if you're just going out in the woods and parking it. No load lifters, bad strap yoke design. Hip belt looks alright and you're gonna need it.

I'm assuming getting a new pack is not a reasonable option but I would highly suggest something like a 38-55 liter pack that is more vertically oriented, with a good frame. Something like a used Osprey commercial pack, or an MR SATL/Komodo, or an HPG decker if you really want to be serious about larp. Having shit hanging over the sides kills your arm swing range and has a wonky balance and is just generally not a good way to do things.

You should get a cheap chest bag for your smokes and phone and things you really need quick access to and then pack everything else away in the main body. Also ditto >>63860724

Was gonna joke about my poops necessitating a more robust shoveling device but yeah, fecal trowels must be the most efficient. Pack I'm using is the 5.11 Rush 72, which is 55L but definitely not shaped the way you suggest, got it used for a good price at least. I have to tighten the shoulder straps nearly all the way just to get a solid feeling fit which kills range of motion, but thought it was normal because I spent my enlistment not knowing how to properly wear ILBE/FILBE packs. Definitely gonna look for load lifters, rear neck clearance, and a real frame next time. Thanks anons

He was never a SME, I donโ€™t even think he got his EMT-P. May I remind you that US Army 68Ws are only qualified as EMT-Bs, their civilian equivalents are literal non-clinical taxi drivers who take fat people to dialysis appointments. A 68W at an Infantry unit can barely put a cannula in and give IV fluids without literally killing their patient due to sheer incompetence. Dude probably gave out some water bottles and put bandaids on Syrian kids for a few months and came back to /k/ acting like he was a trauma surgeon.

So by your argument Jim Cirillo, who survived several dozen gunfights, is the SME even though his book is very, very outdated to the point it's basically from a different era.
>carried three revolvers
>M1 carbine
Gotta compartmentalize credentials here. Cirillo if he were still alive would be the guy on close quarters pistol shooting under pressure. He might not be your guy in other areas. Ayoob has less experience but his usual advice is arguably more relevant because of the time it was written.
Even then, Ayoob is basically wedged in the early 90s. There aren't too many modern SMEs like the old gunwriters, so when in the dunning-krugee sea, we take what we can get.

If you have a massive gear / training advantage, yeah. Think thermals + drones of both recon and kamikaze flavors + a variety of guns, gear, tools, food, etc securely cached around the area. Meanwhile the dicktator only has poorly paid, poorly trained conscripts with shitrod AKs who ain't ever seen a drone before.
The idea is taking out the dicktator and convincing his lieutenants and thus his men that you're a much larger force than just one dude, thus convincing them to capitulate rather than press on - because they only gotta get lucky once.
This is impossible in a first or second world area without substantial allied networks.

Classic case of you get what you pay for, although I will say my Jinwudun skirt is very well built. Definitely not something you want to run in, and $298 is steep for B-grade polyethylene.
I'm planning on replacing my padded belt with something armored myself, thinking either the Jinwudun tac waistband or maybe entertaining the armor empire (eeeh) mystery meat belt, but $399 is too damn high and at that point I'd much rather just buy Crye.

On the impoverished end of things, a used PLCE meets your requirements. On the gucci end of things Jay-Jays, Dragon Airborne or Velocity jungle kit.
If you want more flexibility, you should get a naked base webbing and add your own pouches to it. You can grab an empty jungle kit, surplus eagle H harness or any other combination of padded war belt + suspenders.

The back panel is more substantial than many, so maybe lumpy? I haven't tried it. But it only comes down 1/3. The sewn-in, padded grab handle is nice and near to neck, so shouldn't be an issue. In fact, it velcros to a hook strip, to stay put. Depending on your torso length and adjustments, a pack hip belt should clear the bottom of the fron panels. Give me a week or less and I'll try it out. For the cost compared to the DC3RM, I would choose the Ronin all day long.

I'm not really concerned, I don't really give a shit anymore. I just happened to be checking the thread and saw that post. I bought two condor things and that was one of them so I said never again. For me, it's eagle/BAE surplus. Built like a tank and you can probably get it cheaper than condor.

NTA but I had a condor belt and suspenders setup for a while that was basically form playing dress up as Big Boss from MGSV. The pouches and shit are alright, they won't be terrible, but you'll obviously find some more quality feeling ones at higher prices, but the actual load bearing shit was outright trash. Comparing the war belt to my HSGI Sure grip was no comparison. The Condor was floppy, had molle that started sagging immediately and was starting to develop tears by the D rings where the suspenders were attached. Condor is fine as long as it isn't load bearing imo, other than that though, wouldn't necessarily trust it with holding anything actually heavy.

No. There is literally no reason to buy Condor in current year. If I wanted obsolete designs I could get them properly made surplus for less money. If I wanted poor copies of modern shit I could buy airsoft tier pouches from the chinese.
But theres is very little reason to own any of them. Gear isnt expensive, training is expensive as fuck. If you are skimping to afford surplus eagle, lbt, etc youre not going to train enough for your gear choices to matter. Might as well buy some walmart drawstring backpack for your spare mags as it will function just as well sitting in your closet.

Yeah the buckle has bar in the middle thats pretty jiggly metal on metal clicking. I will take splice tape and wrap the far end of the frame with it so if the belt is entirely relaxed the bar cant slide into the frame. You cant really silence/dont need to silence the other end of the frame because belt loops over it. The bar itself will have some up and down movement when loose but your shit should be tight anyway if youre trying to be that sneaky.

I was hoping for good pouch recommendations based on the three items I'm trying to accommodate...

Water is between a Spiritus/Arbor arms nalgene pouch.

Comms and IFAK are gonna be some sort of GP pouch, ideally something like the BFG ten speed pouches that collapse flush when empty.

So I run my IFAK on my belt kit. I also run a few extra TQs on my plate carrier as well, the IFAK on my belt has one already. I consider my belt setup my first line gear, it has reloads, meds, my handgun, my knife, and a few other things. I consider my plate carrier to be my second line gear. Armor, more ammo, more TQs. I'm wondering, is it worth it running basically a second IFAK on my carrier or is just running the one on my belt + the extra TQs fine? Going through my extra medical supplies I have everything to build a second IFAK.

It makes sense to run two. One for you (first line), second for your buddies or people you come across and want to help. You do not want to exhaust "your" meds for someone else.
If you have the training and circumstances allow, two IFAKs and then a larger full kit in your third line sustainment.

I have the agilite dangler too, but I wouldn't recommend it. It's great, in the sense that the zipper is on the front, so it's not blocked by my pc. But the velcro attachment is so small, it just doesn't attach well. If I were going to get another one, I'd get the shaw concepts one. The zipper is on the top, but it opens up all the way like a clamshell. I'd wait a couple weeks though, shaw is dropping their new stuff on July 1st. I can't remember if they have a new dangler though.

That's a real complex question and depends on a number of variables.
1. The rating of the mask and filters.
2. Condition and age of the mask and filters.
3. The specific "agents" in play.
4. The concentration level of agents.
There are other factors as well. To analogize the situation to armor, for example, you're basically asking "how well would 3M-Ceradyne plates hold up in a pinch."
What gas masks and plates have in common is that they're both richly complex subject areas.
1. Do you have model numbers by chance?
2. Are they in good condition?
3. Do you have ratings available from the manufacturer?
4. What do you want protection from?

Certainly better than nothing. The "meta" solution if you can throw $700-750 seems to be a C50 with the orange laser-protection outsert and at least one CBRNCF50 canister. You'd ideally want 1-2 spares since these aren't marked "R" under EN 14387 - armor analogy again, basically the gas mask VPAM - and you ideally don't want to reuse exposed canisters anyway.

Against "low enough" concentrations of riot agents, probably. Anarchist groups tend to soak them in vinegar solution, but the jury is out on whether that works (I'm leaning on probably... not).
Also, don't buy commercial Chinese gas masks. Bad idea. I've read the newer GOST-filter military types are decent.

There's a surprising amount of overlap between vagabonds, anarchists, and recently-sprung-up militant groups. It would make sense that some cross-referencing would appear like that. CS agent turns into hydrochloride on contact, which is an acid. Vinegar is an acid. I'm not a chemist but I don't see how an acid would neutralize an acid.

Placebo effect coupled with the use of drugs, maybe?

it stops chlorine gas but so does any soaking supposedly
>"Our soldiers had to pee on rags, socks, or whatever piece of cloth they could find and use them to cover their faces to protect their lungs from the gas. The rationale behind this was that the ammonia from urine would somehow neutralize the chlorine gas and prevent it from killing them. What they didnโ€™t know was that even though their trick was effective, it was unnecessary. You see, chlorine dissolves in water. So, they couldโ€™ve used regular water, and it wouldโ€™ve still worked."

Depends entirely on how the agent is deployed. I don't see much point in minmaxxing filters. Get the most protective ones you can while balancing protection against the situation and breathing resistance.
If you are in a situation where liquid, aerosolized, etc nerve agents are deployed then shit's really gone to pot and anything else can be expected.

You need more than a mask for full CBRN. Suit, gloves. Geiger counter. Decontam.

I have similar with telescoping mast that I really like. It's got small design flaws, but comes with magnetic base, adjustable leafs (no solar), adjustable brightness and color temp, and is a battery bank/charger. It's bulky and too heavy for backpacking, but for car camping and table top use, the mast means the light is above your eye level. I like it.

I love Dutch surplus. Their chestrig is really good, so is their molle vest. If only I had some good molle pouches in woodland for it, only those US 1st gen molle's with press studs. Also the colors are great for pine forests and army reserve stuff.

I already have a specific use case in mind and atleast 5 things to put on it, but I guess my plans aren't specific enough because I didn't map out every possible pouch and placement before buying it. Good to know

I'm hoping my molle kabar attachment will serve that purpose wonderfully

The ifak and dump pouch are definitely something that will eventually find their way on the belt, the ifak sooner than anything else. Grenade pouches are something I considered as small GP pouches, But I think I might put em on a plate carrier instead of the belt in case I ever run the 2 together. As for mag pouches, I'm probably gonna gear it less towards shooting until I'm able to get a decent PC to pair it with, and even then I'd probably only end up putting 1 or 2 mags on the belt

military clothes have lots of pockets for a reason. They're ideal for small things like compasses, pens, notes, bandages, etc. You don't need a pouch for everything ffs.

Nigger I already told you five fucking things I'm putting on it and some ideas I had for what to get, what more do you want from me? How hard is it to reccomend an appropriately sized molle pouch to put on a belt?
>HURRR BUT YOU DIDN'T TELL ME THE EXACT PURPOSE YOU'RE USING IT FOR THEREFORE I CANNOT RECCOMEND ANYTHING
If you couldn't figure it out based on the shit i already mentioned getting then that sounds like a (you) problem bud

this is bad advice

If the water is clear where you are just use aquamira drops, you can scoop water and keep moving while it purifies

If the water has a lot of particles scoop it up in a smart water or lifewater bottle and screw a sawyer squeeze or platypus quickdraw to the end

gravity feeds suck, you have to constantly stop and weight when you are moving all day, these things advertise themselves to make it simple because you just weight on it, but they turn out to be an absolute unnecessary chore if you do either of the two recommendations i put above

Hi, gear queer, it's me, predator steel plates anon/that one poorfag with the literally taped together vest.

I was browsing tacswap late last night and I stumbled across this full 3A vest with plate pockets for 200 dollars. Please talk me into and/or out of buying it.

Pros:
-Is not held together with literal duct tape.
-full kevlar for front, back, and sides
-won't get me laughed out of the insurrection

Cons:
-Unknown if it fits me
-200 dollars is not a negligible amount of money for my broke ass
-I already technically own a ballistic vest
-Less soul
