People are kinda glossing over 2 things in this whole thing;
First, even before the first bomb dropped on Iran, the internal situation was pretty dire, A water crisis thats leading to a land subsidence problem, energy crisis, youth unemployment and monetary crisis. theres only so far you can go by chanting death to Israel and death to America when you're government cant keep the lights on or water in the tap.
The second thing, and this is the major one in terms of warfare. The USSR way of looking at warfare was through the lens of its WW2 experience, which was valid untill the late 70s but they failed to notice(except Marshal Ograkov) that warfare has changed.
The same way with Iran, they took their ques from the Iran-Iraq war and build a warfighting doctorine that is only effective against some of their peers. Sure, the missiles cities and drones probably helped keep some of the gulf countries in check, but it utterly fails when looking at Israel.
They also entirely failed to draw any conclusions from what Israel did to Hezbollah.
which is why they are currently getting the same treatment with the same results. Israel correctly identified and mapped how the opposing system operates and is hitting its centers of gravity with precision while the Iranians are flailing around widely.
