Give it to me straight - has an F-35 ever been shot down in combat?
I am aware there have historically been some accidental losses during training and crash landings during peacetime, but Iran claims 4 F35s have been downed so far in the past month and Israel says 0. There's not a great deal of evidence publicly available either way.
I'm aware it's technically feasible to get a lock on with heat seeking missiles but I am unsure if they are able to penetrate its countermeasures and stealth technology.

Russia has been saying for years that the F-35 is too scared to fly in airspace with the S-300 and S-400 active. They then post the radar returns that show no F-35's in air space so that's proof they're not there. So being able to say you shot down an F-35 would reinforce the belief that the S-300 and S-400 are good and can beat the best tech the West has. Russia then can trick people to buy their stuff.
