It's fine. Most of the effect of a muzzle brake is from the gases impacting the rear-facing surfaces of the vent holes or baffles. Exhaust direction has minimal effect except in smoothbrain designs that have no impact surfaces like the AK slant brake.

You are impressively stupid. The top performing brake in that test directs the gas straight out the sides. And it also happens to have the largest baffles of all the brakes in the test. It's almost like muzzle brake effectiveness is primarily a function of gases impacting the baffles.

I would suggest you look up the ancient army report "A Simple Method for Predicting Muzzle Brake Effectiveness", but there's not much point if you failed this hard on a youtube video.

A rifle brake doesn’t need ports pointing upwards, or the tip of the rifle will be forced downwards. There is hardly any leverage for muzzle climb in a rifle since the centerline of the stock is so close to the bore axis. You only need vertical venting in a pistol.

Shouldnt a brake be wide though, with a large surface area on each “baffle”?
