buying a Colt M4A1 from my LGS for $800 after tax (I work there part time so I'm getting a deal regular customers wouldn't get)

Want to ditch the stock furniture and clone a military rifle. Was thinking about cloning a Marine-issue M4A1 (because I was inna muhreens) but have been thinking about cloning a block II with the RIS II FSP.

If I went with the Block I, I would probably opt for a Troy handguard as KAC rails are unobtanium. If I went with the Block II, I'd have to fuck with removing the FSB and putting the RIS II on there.

Who has experience with both and could give me their recommendation.

I am trying to decide between an Eotech EXPS3-0 and a EXPS3-1. I am putting it on what will soon be a supressed 11.5. It will see heavy night use, but will not be a 100% dedicated night gun.

I am really used to the 68MOA 'donut of death', since I have been shooting with a Eotech 512 for over a decade, and have become attached to it. Is it time to kiss the donut goodbye? Which grease should buy for the barrel nut threads? This is the one part of AR building I've never actually done before. Aeroshell 33 is the original milspec grease for this purpose, but it's expensive, and as far as I can tell from their respective spec sheets, Lucas "X-tra Heavy Duty" (green), "Marine" (blue), and "Red n Tacky" (red) all meet or exceed Aeroshell 33's specs.

Honestly it's so niche, I would personally just get a 16" CHF mid length gas barrel and have a gunsmiff put an fsb on for you, but you'll have to make sure the forward section of the barrel is .750, which it probably won't be.

So more than likely you'll have to source an A1 .625" FSB and have it cut to your barrel's diameter.
