We were talking a lot about 7.62 Hispano mausers last thread.
The issue is mainly due to some poorly conceived caliber conversions becoming unsafe over time
Although nato is also inherently higher pressure in less chamber mass. 308 win being even more so, with higher grain commercial loads. It can batter the rifle into unusable or unsafe conditions over time too, with bolt and chamber lugs stretching.

I love my fr8 you wouldn't believe.
Paid 400 euro bucks for it with a bayo and some extra shitty german x51 surp
With half decent ammo (ggg, fiocci, ppu and norma tac308) you could expect 2moa accuracy
But the flameball, handiness and recoil coupled with the "g3 we have at home" sights mzkes it unbelievably cool for initiating newbies to slung shooting standing, kneeling and prone .

if you don't know how to properly shoulder a rifle, you'll learn quickly;)

98 bolt is PERFECTLY ABLE to withstand 308, I have a g98 that had its receiver reamed open to accept fucking 375 Holland and Holland Magnum by mauser themselves in the 60s...
The 94/96 bolt is a tad bit less strong but it should be fine just buy a set of headspace gauges if you're doubtful on your gun.

Don't expect to shoot anything but m80 like (147-155gr @2750ish fps) ammo in most mauser rebarreled in 7,62, they aren't really chambered for 168-180gr modern 308

Every gun I own is taken to the range at least once. Even my numbers matching G98/40 has had ~100 (non-corrosive) rds put through it. I understand people who go for museum-quality items, but I enjoy my collection of surp because it all looks like it was carried through an entire war or three and cleaned in the field.

Thats retarted. The Mauser is an unnecessarily strong action.

Spicy surp 7.92x57 mogs 308 in its potential to kill the user, and mauser enjoyers are still fine.

Probably comes from the same fuds the loaded arisaka rounds into smoothbore elementary school rifles and lost fingers. Havenโ€™t stopped seething an spreading misinformation since

IMO if you want a representative example of the M1911 as used in WW1 and unless the sights can be easily reversed then โ€œnoโ€. Original M1911s can have a relatively short lifespan due to the total lack of hardening to either frame or slide and so they arenโ€™t great for shooters unless you handload some reduced power loads. Which might be called for anyway if you want to maximize accuracy potential. So if thatโ€™s already your jam, then go for it. I bought a repro specifically because I wanted to shoot full power .45ACP without worrying about damaging my original.

Thing almost came out on its own all I had to do was just drop the mag and pick it out like it a stove pipe
MS paint is shit so I cant draw it but imagine a double feed but the round that failed to eject is the top 25% of the case and the round that failed to chamber slams into the case smashing it (like you see in the pic)
I think the broken case was actually out of the chamber fully but it was wedged between the bolt, the round after it and the entrance to the chamber. I really wish I would've taken a picture but thats the first time anything like that has ever happened to me so adrenaline was going. hopefully I find the other halve of the case eventually so I can get a better idea of wtf happened. I will say though that round left a bunch of yellow shit on the bolt face and firing pin

I did an experiment a few hours ago to see what was going on and ended up running more of that CBC ammo through the ljungman and my M96 and came to the conclusion that its dirty af since it was leaving several full pellets of unburnt powder in my barrel and in the Ljungman it was spraying carbon all over the cases while the PPU ammo wasn't getting dirty so I'm probably gonna sell all that ammo and just get S&B and PPU (although I did have 2 shells of S&B get really dirty and lock up my bolt in my m96 once)

Not "easy" but if I can get my medical paperwork with the FAA sorted out I can get an associates degree in aviation which gets me up to a commercial license (need one of those to get a job flying) after that its just working from ~250 flight hours up to 1,000-1,500 and trying to get a bachelors degree in literally anything so airlines will be more likely to hire me
Probably won't end up exactly like that but as long as it goes in that direction I might own one at before 35, if I'm lucky before I'm 30 and if I'm SUPER lucky and I could have one at 25 years old (granted I'd probably need to get a loan for it but I could pay it off on a Pilot's salary)
I have the money to get the degree without debt (or at least barely any), I just need to get accepted and do good in college

The US 332nd Infantry Regiment served on the Piave Front. But since this rifle was in Czech service post-WW1 it would have to be a WW2 souvenir, not WW1. However the most likely path of this rifle from Czechoslovakia to the United States is as Czech aid to the Spanish Republicans during the Spanish Civil War and then bought by INTERARMS in the late 1950s.

Approximately 300,000 Mannlicher rifles "of all models" as per Manowar's site. I don't know how many Mauser rifles they already had, but Czechoslovakia purchased 70,000 Gew.98s from France and 66,000 from the Netherlands in 1919.

I already own several M1 Garands and probably 2000-3000rds of 30-06 but I've thought about getting one of these. Especially since most of the Garands and ammo are back at my parents place and since I'm living in an apartment I'm trying to keep my overall gun footprint as low/consolidated as possible.

I think if you're going to get a 7.62NATO M1 for shooting it would be better to get the .308 Expert. Get the MOD1 if you want the USN history. I don't think you'd see much difference in performance of M2 vs M80, and if you already handload to maximize accuracy does the convenience of 7.62NATO availability matter?

I mainly want the NATO for the historic aspect. I don't really care for any "modern" / "reproduction" so to speak CMP M1 Garands that use modern commerical parts.

Because I also have an M1A and plan to get an FAL soon it would be nice to just only have to buy 7.62 NATO and I can start selling some of my 30-06 (at least the delinked stuff that isn't already on clips) to boomers.

I think it was Mattias Wandel who tested several wood glues and gorilla glue came out pretty good overall, maybe even over Titebond II. I still hate that fucking foaming glue though lol. I have a bottle, it has its uses, but I remember when it was new-ish and everything in my town suddenly became half-ass repaired with that stuff with a half inch wide foamy bead peeking out of the cracks with foamy drips lol. But it is pretty strong when used right. I just don't trust myself to not over-apply causing the need for cleanup work. Wonder if I should be using that for outdoor wood repairs instead of Titebond; should be more waterproof.

>gorilla glue came out pretty good overall
It depends a lot on what you're expecting. Gorilla glue will bond to a lot of difference materials and is very strong, but it expands when it cures, so it can push joints apart and almost always requires a fair amount of cleanup work. Titebond doesn't do that, if used correctly and with adequate joint prep, it can be as strong as the original wood. Titebond is a good choice if appearance and joint tolerances are important. If you just need to stick stuff together, especially if there are gaps or other problems with joint prep, then gorilla glue is a better choice.

Also, titebond makes a waterproof version for outdoor use.

Probably, but we need some pictures to make a proper assessment. Assuming this is the Model 1891 it is not uncommon to find them with crests intact because they were surplussed at a later date than most of the 1891 infantry rifles. However factory-original matching carbines are less common because, since these carbines stayed in military service longer than the rifles, they were more likely to be refurbished and rebuilt and have replacement parts force-matched or not matched at all.

Gorilla glue is also extremely caustic on metal components. When making scabbards for example, even the wood can rust steel if it has a high tanin content. Rule of thumb is the darker the wood the more tanin it has. Anyways yeah please be careful with gorilla glue near metal. Hide glue and fish/rabbit glue is a good historical adhesive that can be removed with applied heat but be very careful as that shit will get everywhere. The titebond hide glue in the brown bottles they sell at your local woodworking store is good.

I bought two really pretty blocks of wood cheap from a local guy who sells kiln dried wood for knife scales and pen blanks as well as handmade furniture. We talked a couple times over a few months and I was excited to make some replacement grips from them, but he was strangely absent from his normal setup for a while. Come to find out he died and now I'm too pussy to continue without working with shittier wood. Shame, too, because he offered services for kiln drying wood and using a kiln to disinfect/kill off bug infestations in antiques (beetles, etc). I think he underpriced his blanks, though they very well may just have been offcuts of furniture stock for him. I miss him and his business as he was the kind of guy that would talk and give advice on woodworking for as long as you needed; I think an older guy runs the business at other locations but it's very reduced compared to what that guy offered.

The days of $1 mixed surplus belt bins and $5 camo tops is over man.

I caught it at the very end at I. Goldbergs in Philly. That basement was a magical place in the early and late 00's.

Surplus as it was is over, man. It's for collectors and fashionistas now.

$2900
~$3300 after shipping, tax and other feeโ€™s
Still $1000 cheaper than any youโ€™ll find at a gun show

Probably not. The benefit of the magazine is hard to justify the cost of interrupting the garand production lines and then needing to retrain soldiers on the new weapon and deal with the logistics of correctly supplying blocs to soldiers with the old garand and magazines to soldiers with the new one.
If the T-20 was truly worth it, it would have been brought out for Korea
