On a side note, I hear fuddlore about Mauser actions not being strong enough for .308 Win, any truth to this?
Personally I have a Swede Mauser in .308 that’s never had a problem
>>63864541We were talking a lot about 7.62 Hispano mausers last thread.
The issue is mainly due to some poorly conceived caliber conversions becoming unsafe over time
Although nato is also inherently higher pressure in less chamber mass. 308 win being even more so, with higher grain commercial loads. It can batter the rifle into unusable or unsafe conditions over time too, with bolt and chamber lugs stretching.
Damn archaic filesize limits

Got my AG-42 today and had an insane case head failure (Never gonna buy CBC ammo again but I think I’ll finish off the rounds I have left)
Guns fine but it’s dirty from shooting like 150 blanks
I might get a popsicle stick and some wood glue that can take some heat so I can fix a loose barrel band spring

Paid 400 euro bucks for it with a bayo and some extra shitty german x51 surp
With half decent ammo (ggg, fiocci, ppu and norma tac308) you could expect 2moa accuracy
But the flameball, handiness and recoil coupled with the "g3 we have at home" sights mzkes it unbelievably cool for initiating newbies to slung shooting standing, kneeling and prone .

The 94/96 bolt is a tad bit less strong but it should be fine just buy a set of headspace gauges if you're doubtful on your gun.
Don't expect to shoot anything but m80 like (147-155gr @2750ish fps) ammo in most mauser rebarreled in 7,62, they aren't really chambered for 168-180gr modern 308

1917 dated 1911 with all WW1 features that some guy modified in the 50s with target sights for bullseye shooting. It’s $1000. Yes or no?
>>63870411Ok. You’ve convinced me. Where can I?
>>63870457If it’s as simple as part swapping a correct rear sights on without leaving blemish.

Any trusted collectors I can sell to that won’t butcher milsurp? I won’t get into much detail but I can’t have a safe or ammo where I live and it’s killing my interest in anything related to guns. I don’t want my k98k to sit in a bag forever or watch it rust.

any (collectors) that have any kind of recognition are flippers/shills or hoarders so youre better off just getting to know folks at a base level and hoping it goes well
>>63870457IMO if you want a representative example of the M1911 as used in WW1 and unless the sights can be easily reversed then “no”. Original M1911s can have a relatively short lifespan due to the total lack of hardening to either frame or slide and so they aren’t great for shooters unless you handload some reduced power loads. Which might be called for anyway if you want to maximize accuracy potential. So if that’s already your jam, then go for it. I bought a repro specifically because I wanted to shoot full power .45ACP without worrying about damaging my original.
>>63870530Noted. I’ll hold off and just keep shooting my tisas.
Wait I’m confused. This still means full fun “c&r”s require a stamp i.e. “controls”. An 03 FFL can’t just buy an Armalite 601 and put it in the little book, right?

>>63869861Thing almost came out on its own all I had to do was just drop the mag and pick it out like it a stove pipe
MS paint is shit so I cant draw it but imagine a double feed but the round that failed to eject is the top 25% of the case and the round that failed to chamber slams into the case smashing it (like you see in the pic)
I think the broken case was actually out of the chamber fully but it was wedged between the bolt, the round after it and the entrance to the chamber. I really wish I would've taken a picture but thats the first time anything like that has ever happened to me so adrenaline was going. hopefully I find the other halve of the case eventually so I can get a better idea of wtf happened. I will say though that round left a bunch of yellow shit on the bolt face and firing pin
I did an experiment a few hours ago to see what was going on and ended up running more of that CBC ammo through the ljungman and my M96 and came to the conclusion that its dirty af since it was leaving several full pellets of unburnt powder in my barrel and in the Ljungman it was spraying carbon all over the cases while the PPU ammo wasn't getting dirty so I'm probably gonna sell all that ammo and just get S&B and PPU (although I did have 2 shells of S&B get really dirty and lock up my bolt in my m96 once)

He wants 2500. Condition good.
Is a garand sniper worth it?
what to look for to avoid problems?
Can the optic be adjusted / zeroed easily or is it a special tool little setting range nightmare?
Can the optics be taken off / on easily or is it soldered / bolted in place ?

But it is pretty strong when used right. I just don't trust myself to not over-apply causing the need for cleanup work. Wonder if I should be using that for outdoor wood repairs instead of Titebond; should be more waterproof.
>>63910969I’ll show you how it comes out tomorrow. I was pretty sparse with the glue. If it breaks I’ll use more or start sanding and filling. wiped the excess away with my little oily toothbrush.
>>63910969>gorilla glue came out pretty good overallIt depends a lot on what you're expecting. Gorilla glue will bond to a lot of difference materials and is very strong, but it expands when it cures, so it can push joints apart and almost always requires a fair amount of cleanup work. Titebond doesn't do that, if used correctly and with adequate joint prep, it can be as strong as the original wood. Titebond is a good choice if appearance and joint tolerances are important. If you just need to stick stuff together, especially if there are gaps or other problems with joint prep, then gorilla glue is a better choice.
Also, titebond makes a waterproof version for outdoor use.

Assuming this is the Model 1891 it is not uncommon to find them with crests intact because they were surplussed at a later date than most of the 1891 infantry rifles. >>63925451I am fully aware of false confidence, I believe seating the barrel is easy but I could also be wrong and drill the barrel into Swiss cheese.
Then again its the top of it and might be low power enough that several notches wont hurt it?

>never been to a surplus store as i mostly buy online
>decide to go check one out maybe ill find some pouches for my magazines
>go in, two old geezers behind a counter mean mugging me (There was another person already there and they were doing the same to him)
>Ask a question to break the ice "Do you have any magazine pouches?" Geezers loosen up a bit
>"Yeah we should just look in this section and you should find some"
> Don't find the pouches I was looking for (AK pouches) Find mosin pouches instead and some mosin oil bottles and holsters
> old geezer asks what holster i was looking for, told him i was looking for a romanian tokarev holster
>he picks one out of the pile, has $50 price tag with string attached
>Geezer says "here's one, don't mind the price" as he walks back behind the counter
>Kind of a weird thing to say but okay, maybe the price tag is not the actual price?
Here is what i got: 4 mosin pouches, romanian tokarev holster, 2 mosin oil bottles; Mind you these were not in NOS immaculate condition, everything was pretty worn with torn seems, dented bottles etc.
>Go to check out
>Geezer tallies everything up
>"That'll be $115.42 cents."
>"I left my card in the car let me go grab it"
>Get in my car and leave
Are all surplus stores this shitty or did i have a bad experience? How are 4 mosin pouches, which go for $5 a piece all day and a shitty tokarev holster and 2 mosin oil bottles tally up to $115?
What are your surplus store stories i.e. fudd IKNOWWHATIGOT stories?
>>63926135surplus stores exist exclusively to sell unwanted items to retards.
>>63926135any surplus store, or gun store for that matter where the owners are visibly old as fuck and appear "grumpy" you have only 2 options. They are either based as fuck, or complete assholes. There is no middle. Roll the dice.
>>63926135I haven't seen a good military surplus store since 2008.

>>63929539>flakinessFactory. After the British weren't there to whip the Indians into doing things properly anymore, pretty much all of their guns have wound up having really shit finishes. I have a 2A Ishapore, one of the early ones before they switched the rear sight design over once they ran out of SMLE parts entirely, and it has a cheap, flaky black finish that is bubbled in some spots. Interestingly has a sort of gray undercoat to it though which I haven't seen on any other Ishapore Enfield.

I wonder if the T-20 would've been adopted as the standard infantry arm if the invasion of Japan took place.
A cool video idea would be comparing the T-20, BM-59, and M-14 and how they all tried to tackle the problem of giving the Garand a mag. Of course the only one who can make that is Ian but he's too busy shilling Finnish tactical pants despite having access to the Springfield Armory museum.
>>63864980How much did the middle one cost you anon?
>>63926135The days of $1 mixed surplus belt bins and $5 camo tops is over man.
I caught it at the very end at I. Goldbergs in Philly. That basement was a magical place in the early and late 00's.
Surplus as it was is over, man. It's for collectors and fashionistas now.
>>63931117$2900
~$3300 after shipping, tax and other fee’s
Still $1000 cheaper than any you’ll find at a gun show
>>63931108Probably not. The benefit of the magazine is hard to justify the cost of interrupting the garand production lines and then needing to retrain soldiers on the new weapon and deal with the logistics of correctly supplying blocs to soldiers with the old garand and magazines to soldiers with the new one.
If the T-20 was truly worth it, it would have been brought out for Korea
>>63931875>cheaper than any you’ll find at a gun showI can confirm that. Saw some boomer fud selling a kar98 for $4,000. What is it with boomers selling their shit for ridiculous prices?
>>63932020because demand is sky high and they hold 90% of the supply by virtue of acquiring the gun their dad brought back from the milsurp factory 90 years ago
