If I home-defense myself and my family at 3am against fellow state-protected enrichers, government will rape my ass in court and steal my guns whatever happened. You don't say where in Euroland you are and laws and consequences for breaking them are different. A handgun of any kind in the UK for example and you're legally fucked.

I believe pretty much all Euros can have a shotgun, so that would be the way to go.

Running out of ammo with a rifle is not the point of a pistol, although it can be used like that.
It's if your rifle breaks, that's the whole point, so you can stay in the fight, kill the guy in front of you than get your rifle working or get a new rifle.
