More is better than less and in a shorter and lighter weapon that's more accurate and easier to shoot.

If I home-defense myself and my family at 3am against fellow state-protected enrichers, government will rape my ass in court and steal my guns whatever happened. But I kinda like my guns, plus I invested some money in it. Court stuff would be painful and exhausting enough without the regret of losing my precious thousands of bucks's toys. In the very unlikely event that I'd need to fire a shot in my house, i'm now thinking I'd need a dedicated cheap home-defense kit I can lose forever without any remorse. I'm thinking

You don't say where in Euroland you are and laws and consequences for breaking them are different. A handgun of any kind in the UK for example and you're legally fucked.

I believe pretty much all Euros can have a shotgun, so that would be the way to go.

Running out of ammo with a rifle is not the point of a pistol, although it can be used like that.
It's if your rifle breaks, that's the whole point, so you can stay in the fight, kill the guy in front of you than get your rifle working or get a new rifle.
