The correct move is to strip completely naked to strike fear into your enemies. It's already common practice among the urban youths to pull their shirts off before a scuffle so the way to establish dominance is to take off your pants too. That way they know you have nothing to hide and nothing to lose

The west had this slow drip feed of eastern mysticism, martial arts, traditional medicine and New age bullshit from the 50s to maybe late 80s and we all know the stupidity much of it led to.
None of this was a thing in the combloc and once the wall fell, we got hit with a concentrated gigadose all at once - and this was the result

I want to make a film that is a pastiche of cheesy "kid learns karate and stops being a loser" films like Karate Kid or Sidekicks except he trains at a no-hit dojo. The whole thing is played completely straight and at the climax he faces off against his nemesis from a rival dojo, the ki bullshit looks like it's actually working, but it's just his opponent being really confused for a moment before one hit KO'ing the kid with the most awkward and telegraphed punch ever because he's only an orange belt. The film ends on an overhead freeze-frame as the kid hits the mat unconscious while a synthpop power ballad plays and the credits roll.

Aikido is as pretty much as fake as fake martial arts get. It's all choreographed play fighting.
The moves are entirely based on the assumption your your opponent is also familiar with the moves and actively plays along, otherwise it doesn't work.

Literal WWE-style exhibition wrestling is a more legitimate martial art.

They have some tosses/throws they stole from Judo and some wrist and joint locks from Jits that are effective, if they ever actually practiced them at a competitive level.

like eye pokes and balls busting. they work TOO well to be usable in sparring or competitive matches where you don't actually want to cripple your opponent.

as long you're aware pic related
marital arts is fine
if you want practical application for self-defense up to effective offensive combat learn all 3 to cover your bases
>wrestling (sambo,greco roman,judo,etc)
>striking (muay thai,kick boxing)
>melee weapons (kali)
are the fastest & most time efficient disciplines

stay away from gimicky bullshit like krav maga especially from former professional soldiers teaching them
the most you get out of those is the mental aspect of merciless attacking but practically speaking you won't be able to apply them properly like they never did since they used guns to kill people all their career.

stick to the basics and master them
don't practice advanced specific techniques for specific scenarios that will never happen
if you master the basics the "advanced techniques" for those specific scenarios will come out on their own.
since that's how those techniques were developed in the first place.
but waiting & wasting your time practicing for specific scenarios is a waste of time and will get you killed trying to manifest them instead of just being practical and going with the simplest solution.
most people who's never been in a fight never takes into consideration the effects of adrenalin and it's debilitating effects if you're not used to it.

t. been practicing martial arts for over 3 decades

PS: I don't even like Glocks

I've actually studied Aikido when I was younger since my dad used to teach it (he got up to 6th dan)
he even used it to disarm a robbery where he worked and grabbed a m16 off one of the robbers and saved the day, he even got into the news because of it in my country.

You don't actually use all the fancy shit in aikido irl,
what it teaches you is the fundamentals of body momentum manipulation (both your opponent and yourself) in conjunction with wristlocks and weapon manipulation which is what my dad used to disarm the attacker with the rifle.

It's too ritualized with katas and takes too long to get to the point though.
like most Aikido dojos only teach you Jo (short staff which is actually useful) till after you reach black belt.

there are a ton of disciplines which have much faster & practical ways of learning effective hand to hand and melee combat.

Problem with small joints manipulation is nefarious fighters.
Gingers are small and obscured by grip you cant see what is happening.
Locks of large joints is you see that one fighter is allying lock and you can generally observe that fighter is breaking joint without need so yo ucan penalize him.
With fingers you cant see shit and nefarious fighters can just break other fighters fingers and cripple them for life just because they are evil like that and you cant penalize it because you can distinguish between justifiable push past limit and non justifiable.

From my understanding when it broke off from traditional jujutsu and judo the founder and some of his students were very exceptionally gifted martial artists that were able to pull off some absurd shit in practice but it never really translated to the average student and quickly watered down into a performative art.
>>63879953

Small joint manipulation, biting, and eye pokes are banned from for obvious reasons but the problem with the cope argument that certain martial arts hide behind when they claim to be oriented “for the street” is that they aren’t particularly complicated techniques either and no they aren’t particularly well practiced in those martial arts either because they never practice at all. You can crank an arm bar a thousand times in full contact and do it all over again the next day assuming you aren’t a psycho that breaks your training partners. Closest you will ever get to practicing eye pokes is essentially an open handed jab which the average boxer or mma fighter are going to be markedly more effective at. Shit Jon Jones is famous for just holding an open hand out in front of his opponent hoping they run into it and he can get away with an eye poke.

I used to know a guy, then an old man and now dead, who was one of the highest ranked judo practitioners in the world. He used to ask all his students "what was the most powerful martial art in the world". Of course this would start the usual debate about various martial arts styles: kung fu, karate, judo, boxing, bjj, etc. He'd let all his students argue about this for a bit, then interrupt them, calling them morons for thinking it's anything other than proficiency with firearms.

He also had this amazing quote which I really took to heart:
>Be me, visiting my friend who is one of old dude's students
>it's old dude's 70-somethingth birthday; he's having a party at his dojo and my friend wants to drop by to say hi.
>we visit, everyone's having a good time. old due suddenly busts out an acoustic guitar and starts playing. None of us had any idea he played.
>he's pretty damn good
>one of his students remarks "wow, sensei, I didn't know you could play guitar like that, that's amazing, I wish I could play like that"
>suddenly old man stops playing and looks this dude dead in the eye and says bluntly:
>"No, you don't."
>Student looks puzzled
>"What you meant to say was: you wished you wished you could play the guitar. Because if it was just as simple as you wishing you could play, you'd be at home practicing instead of wasting everyone's time whining about it"

So remember the wise words of the old judo man: if you want achieve something then start making effort. Now.

It was definitely blunt and lacking tact, but I think it was also a very poignant statement. Think about it generally, not just in this specific instance. How many times have you heard someone express they "wish" they could do something or change something yet make zero effort? Less whining, more doing, is good advice.

The thing with BJJ is that in most cases it isn't one catastrophic injury, but the general wear and tear from hard training day in, day out. Things like rib pain from getting smashed, finger arthritis from gripping the gi, neck pain from getting choked too often etc
Sure, there are guys who had an inside heel hook ripped on them and had their knees turned into confetti, but those are outliers (unless we're talking pro athletes, it seems like 80% of those guys had an ACL reconstruction at some point)

Consider also that college wrestlers are in their physical peak and do it for what, four years before they graduate?
BJJ is largely middle-aged people past their physical prime
Of course, it also has to do with submissions, especially if your training partner is careless, you refuse to tap or you're competing and a guy just rips it like a retard. It's an inherent risk, though one that can be managed by not being a retard and not training with retards

Younger guys who take their conditioning seriously aren't going to get torn up near as bad as the average BJJ guy when training.

They do. It's not an age problem, it's a qualification problem.
Black belts in BJJ haven't meant anything in about two decades now and most instructors today (50%) are entirely unqualified to teach.
They are literally Karate/TKD-tier easy to achieve, pay and wait and you'll graduate and then you can open your own gym.
Combine that with a bunch of mid-life crisis refugees, stoners, ex-wrestlers too fat to wrestle, and Napoleon complex manlets practicing joint manipulation = injury city.

Also, BJJ is just plain gay and for people who cry when they get hit.
The same way people quit football to play basketball, baseball, or soccer the first time they get sacked is the exact equivalent of BJJ guys the first time they eat a hard cross or hook, leg chop double leg, etc. They quit and find something less intimidating but accessible.

Over the years I've realized just how many people got really deep seated "strike fear". Even people you'd actually think are pretty tough guys.

Anyway, like you said, BJJ is extremely lame and boring as a sport. I don't care how technical it is. "BUT MUH HUMAN CHESS!!!!!!" anything can be fucking reduced to "chess but <x>" if it's competitive and features two competitors.

Calling any martial art "chess" is fucking retarded. Chess is purely a mental game. Physical things like dexterity, strength, endurance, and flexibility don't matter at all. Any martial art, whether it's based around guns, striking, grappling, swords, etc, necessarily involves all those things. It might be technical but it's still very physical, which means its utterly retarded to reduce it to 'muh human chess'

Ever notice jits guys get frustrated or pissed off during a match and the first thing they start doing is slapping/punching each other?
Striking is instinctive, the rollbro fears the striker.

Shit talking aside, there are a few things from jits that are worth getting a hang of. RNCs, arm bars, and guillotines aren't bad skills to know. Good takedown defense nullifies like 90% of jits though.

>10 years of just showing up 3x a week isn't all that impressive
It's only large chain McDojos (ie anything with Gracie in the name) that promote on attendance, no reputable place will give you a belt unless you're actually skilled, mostly because no one wants their reputation stained by their best students getting vibe checked by mediocre purple belts from down the street (this is why a gym banning cross-training at other places is the biggest possible "leave this place right fucking now" red flag).

You mean the same large chain dojos that attract the most students and are also churning out the most black belts?

In a sea of mediocre black belts, having yours from a "reputable place" doesn't mean much to anyone but you.
Having a win in a major competition is a bigger accomplishment and sign of skill in BJJ now days than a black belt is.

I've seen another BJJ practicioner breakdown of those cases and it's often a combination of
>starting after 30
>ego rolling
>not taking S&C seriously
Guys in their mid 30s who did not take care of their body are joining a demanding sport and trying to keep up with the 17-20 year olds who want to compete. They are hyped about finding a new purpose/goal in life beyond slaving away at their job, the community, etc and don't take rest seriously. And after passing their peak in the late 20s the body is just more injury prone and a few BJJ training sessions should be replaced by some strength training for injury prevention.
While the BJJ defense force does behave like the pit mommies insisting that they're cuddly little things despite being 6.5% of the dog population and committing 66% of fatal bites, you rarely see "BJJ ruined my life" videos from 25 year old guys who started at 16. It's almost always dudes in their 40s who had no business going as hard as they were going.

China has a perfect opportunity to be kitting out their border guards like Dynasty Warrior characters but refuse to do so. Pathetic.

There's a decent bit of HEMA that is ranked sports now and they are miles above the fat/gay/tranny "historical" clubs that are basically Kahrodddy in puffy sleeves.
agree than kendo and sport fencing will put you at the top of the list in terms of athleticism and sparring tempo, but decent HEMA clubs will teach technique as well for their weapons of choice that you won't find elsewhere

IMO avoid any two-handed weapons (kendo and longswords in particular), just focus on some one-handed ones. It will transfer well to many improvised weapons like clubs or knives/daggers, walking sticks, whatever (with a more parallel stance it even transfers to good old boxing punches); it can be done safely - till quite advanced age - despite already having some serious injuries and you will have your whole body physical training all right.
Besides, using weapons instead of bare hands to solve your problems is a high IQ move.
