I have an old Norinco 1911, they used to turn them into race guns but this one is just stock except I put some Hogue wrap around grips on it and its very comfy. I got pretty average/small hands the thin grip is nice honestly.

It think it's plus the fact that a rifle that can take multiple accessories right out of the box is a relatively recent phenomena. A lot of people see an empty mlok slot or picatinny rail and think they HAVE to put something on it or their rifle is incomplete somehow. Some asshole made a bunch of them in the 70's out of random Thompson and Sten parts, along with a bunch of randomly sized Allen screws and a big hunk of rubber instead of a buffer spring, and he'd try to sell them at gun shows.
