That's badass. I always wanted one of those San Mai full tang Cold Steels. Couldn't justify spending $300 on a knife when I was barely 18. I have the Master Hunter VG-1 San Mai I got on sale for under $100.

Teach me about Karambits /kg/.
Are they just a meme?
Do they have utility or are they just "fighting knives"? I guess they could be useful to gather mushrooms at least.
Can you recommend any?

Unironically buy a regular linoleum knife instead.
Those have actual utility, unlike memebits.
By virtue of being plain utility tools, they also look a lot less incriminating than a "tactical karmbit", should there be some sort of incident.

The bayonets are real. Second from left is for my Mauser. The Fairbairn, and KABAR are new, but made by their original manufacturers. Getting the Fairbairn was a real bitch because it had to come from Sheffield, England, and US customs kept stealing them. I have to admit, their customer service was really nice to work with. That one is the third one they sent. The other two never made it out of New York. The hatchet is an Estwing. The M48 is a meme, but was a gift. The Case V42 is not authentic. I'd like a real one, but the only Case made ones you can get are insanely expensive since they're antiques now and Case stopped production in 1993.

Eh they are okay, their origin is as a pure tool, not a weapon. Curved blades have their uses.
But as the other anons said they were unfortunately established here mainly out of edgy mall ninja video game reasons.
Due to their public perception (reinforced by the childish designs knifemakers give them) you'd be stupid to carry one, that is just asking for trouble on multiple levels.

pleasu pleasu recommend a good knife.
A swichblade, for self defense, (local laws: no longer than 3.3 inches ,the width in the middle of the blade has to be more than 14% of its total length, the blade cant be double sided.) the budget is up to about 250~ euro

i carried an old probably illegal soviet swichblade from my dad for years but the spring broke and i dont have the tools to fix it now so i might as well get something thats both good quality and wont get me into trouble

For fidgeting, edc and generally looking sleek maybe. But since he wants it for defense, I'd rather recommend something thats less sleek and sinple, has a proper, big flippertab for ease of use when time is of the essence, and a grippy handle shape that prevents your hand from slipping onto the blade. Theres numerous examples, even from the same manufacturer.

They don't even have a how to video on that. It's marketed as a stabby knife, and say that keeping the point sharp is the only real thing you can do. It would be really impractical as a hack or slash.

Can you be a bit more specific on what kind of outdoors? Do you plan on doing field craft? Stripping wood or cutting rope, foraging and cutting plants/etc? Stuff near/in water? Preparing game at all? If you deal with humidity and moisture stainless would be better but a 1060/1075/1080 type carbon blade would be solid.
>https://www.buckknives.com/product/105-pathfinder-knife/?sku=0105BKS-B is the little brother of the venerated 119 special. 420 steel but you dont seem like a snob. Leather sheath. A classic look that is going to be less aggressive looking in the eyes of park authorities or any police.
Honestly though, even with a pretty low budget you have so many options my only advice is to search through all the sellers. Check for sales, even check the blade forums for deals since you arent concerned with a NIB S2112v Microtech. Buck, Kershaw, Cold Steel (overbuilt but with a good, DAMN good warranty), Ka-Bar, CRKT, etc.

It's like a hand sickle. Regardless of the size it's going to cut well due to the inwards curve meaning that it easily "snags" and draws more material into itself. If you want one for "fighting" or self-defense you should probably get some kind of hawkbill or linoleum like that other guy said but it heavily depends on carry/defense laws where you live. If the curve isn't so exaggerated they still stab pretty well. It's quite a lot easier to KILL someone using most other knives where you can just pull the sewing machine routine especially if you have no fighting or martial arts experience. However, you have some more options for less-lethal options with karambit-style blades and they're a bit harder to disarm if used properly. As for actual models I've only used the FX-599 and the Cold Steel Tiger Claw. Both use wave-style openings and deploy well. Make sure you get a metal/rubber practice version and actually do some drills and practice draws. Don't be silly and think that you only have to use them in a reverse grip, either.

Been wanting one for a while and finally got one of these in good condition, a Boker Superliner (not my photo). Several versions were produced in the late 90s and early 00s, but the late 90s model number 2063 with the 2000 in the titanium handles is the best of the bunch imo.
Just a really cool piece. representative of the style of customs from the time, (i believe this is a Michael Walker design actually), and also very fitting with the Y2K esthetic of the period.
Lockup and action are good (teflon washers are overhated if you ask me), ergonomics are ok but clearly take a backseat to style.

I love this thing so much, punches well above its price. Smoothest, most reliable action ive ever owned. I just wish they'd make them in more blade shapes. Spear is really the only good option so that's what I got. Tanto and Reverse Tanto are such memes, and Dagger is the best for fighting but terrible for actually using it as a knife. I consider a knife a tool first and foremost and only a weapon as a last resort...

Id kill for a Bowie or a drop point version. Love a nice slicey belly. This belly is okay but it isn't the greatest, and the tip is essentially sewing needle thin which is magnificent for utility cuts or stabbing flesh but im scared to hard use it... I know magnacut is supposed to be pretty tough and all but it is ridiculously thin at the tip.

I care less about the police asking them to destroy guns and more that Benchmade was producing a knife for Doug Ritter who used the profits from said knife to combat draconian knife laws throughout the US, told Ritter they were going to stop making said knife whose profits helped Benchmade sell more knives simply so they could make a similar knife instead and reap the extra profit.
>oh, you can't
Get back to me when you get to handle an Anthem. The coil spring Axis lock is so smooth that you can hold the knife perfectly horizontal, disengage the lock and the blade will close itself just from the inertia of the gravity swinging the blade closed and you letting go of the crossbar at the right time.

and while all of these apply to fixed blades in some degree (historical aspects and design certainly, mechanical aspects less so) there's more of that to talk about in folders.
if you want to talk what you last used your fixed blade for perhaps check out /ck/ and /out/ because I guarantee you weren't stabbing anybody just now. Or post in this here thread of what you use for hunting and why.

I don't plan to use it for battling ninjas or anything, but I also want it to not immediately fall apart since I'm sure I'll end up accidentally chopping some rock or dirt etc with it when I'm cutting shrubs at ground level.

Maintenance is the key issue. Optimally, the least maintenance, the better. As such, yes, stainless or semi stainless allows you to use a knife with less focus on keeping it clean. It's like corrosive primers. No one is going to say you can never shoot corrosive ammo in your gun because it won't work. But given the choice or rather all things being equal, would you WANT to use something that is more maintenance intensive for no perceived gain?

I won't speak for the people who sperg out over it, but most knives in that price range are at best gucci gear, and at worst some art deco bullshit that looks kinda gay. It's kinda hard to justify those sort of prices with blade steel, heat treat, and QC alone, especially these days. Even chinese knives are getting kinda good, it's a little concerning honestly
Granted, all of this is coming from someone who's only spent over $100 before shipping on a knife once, and that was on a kabar, so higher end shit has just never interested me enough to warrant dropping half a check on one. To each their own though, you can judge me for collecting gay military knives like an autist, and I can judge you for spending $300 on something to open packages and blister packs with

To me, anyone that doesn't care about what steel their knife is made of probably doesn't use their knife much because if they did they'd find out that some blades dull quickly.
