>>63882444 (OP)That's badass. I always wanted one of those San Mai full tang Cold Steels. Couldn't justify spending $300 on a knife when I was barely 18. I have the Master Hunter VG-1 San Mai I got on sale for under $100.
>>63882444 (OP)bought a kershaw lucha this weekend, its fun to play with, i still need to work on how i open it though
Teach me about Karambits /kg/.
Are they just a meme?
Do they have utility or are they just "fighting knives"? I guess they could be useful to gather mushrooms at least.
Can you recommend any?
>>63883773>Teach me about Karambits /kg/.>utility knives from Southeast Asia>used for self defense because it's what was on-hand>westerners become fascinated with them because of exotic asian fetishism and put them in video games/movies>mall ninjas hype the shit out of them as le epic tacticool knives>people retaliate against mall ninjas and call karambits shit>karambits are considered bad for fighting AND bad for utility by virtue of being "fighting" knivesyou are here
>>63883773>Can you recommend any?Unironically buy a regular linoleum knife instead.
Those have actual utility, unlike memebits.
By virtue of being plain utility tools, they also look a lot less incriminating than a "tactical karmbit", should there be some sort of incident.
These are all my fixed blade knives. I've got another M48 knife ordered, even though they're meme knives. But the Liberator trench knife was too cool to resist. I'm equal parts ashamed and excited.
>>63884706Nice collection of expensive mall ninja shit.
>>63882494I just got a serrated Kobun a few weeks ago. I really want the 3V Laredo Bowie but I'm gonna wait for Black Friday perhaps.
>>63884751The bayonets are real. Second from left is for my Mauser. The Fairbairn, and KABAR are new, but made by their original manufacturers. Getting the Fairbairn was a real bitch because it had to come from Sheffield, England, and US customs kept stealing them. I have to admit, their customer service was really nice to work with. That one is the third one they sent. The other two never made it out of New York. The hatchet is an Estwing. The M48 is a meme, but was a gift. The Case V42 is not authentic. I'd like a real one, but the only Case made ones you can get are insanely expensive since they're antiques now and Case stopped production in 1993.
Question for /kg/. My uncle was clearing out his collection of knives of junk and gave me a bunch of his old Franklin Mint knives, as well as some Pakistani crap and one or two decent items. Anybody know if there is a market for these, and what these ones would go for?
>>63884990Also, this... thing.
>>63884990No definitive market, really. If you found the right collector, you might be able to get some decent money for them. Without knowing the specific editons and shit, it's hard to tell.
>>63885066Well, looking through Ebay shows a set of six in a display case going for $78.85. The display case itself looks a bit dinged up in the seller's pictures, and I've got the zipper pouches mine came in. Any idea what sort of site might have more info on this set and others?
>>63885680Welp, guess I answered my questionโฆ
>>63885066Thanks for the help, anon. Hopefully I can get an appraisal after work sometime this week.
>>63884045>>63884079Eh they are okay, their origin is as a pure tool, not a weapon. Curved blades have their uses.
But as the other anons said they were unfortunately established here mainly out of edgy mall ninja video game reasons.
Due to their public perception (reinforced by the childish designs knifemakers give them) you'd be stupid to carry one, that is just asking for trouble on multiple levels.
pleasu pleasu recommend a good knife.
A swichblade, for self defense, (local laws: no longer than 3.3 inches ,the width in the middle of the blade has to be more than 14% of its total length, the blade cant be double sided.) the budget is up to about 250~ euro
i carried an old probably illegal soviet swichblade from my dad for years but the spring broke and i dont have the tools to fix it now so i might as well get something thats both good quality and wont get me into trouble
>>63884706>twisty bladeI don't care, I like it.
>>63887620You're probably better off carrying a screwdriver or something at that point.
Look at BladeHQ or Knifecenter and use their filters.
>>63882444 (OP)this isnt a knife question, but does anyone have any idea where i could possibly get a really heavy medieval warhammer? like 50 pounds or more. there is unfortunately not a hammer thread. $500 budget. pretty sure there are no laws against hammers. just want it as a display piece. any length
>>63887646 they all look like shit ill probably just get an 9 inch skm stiletto and pray i never get patted down
Is it difficult to give black coating and stonewash knives a mirror finish instead?
>>63887620Mikov auto. Pic related.
>>63887934Depends on the type of coating. A cheap paint or epoxy coating is fairly easy to remove. A DLC type coating is going to be a pain in the ass.
>>63887934Depends a lot on the steel used too. It could be anywhere from not too difficult to "lol good fucking luck" to get a mirror finish.
>>63887620does it have to be an automatic? a good modern flipper (with or without assisted opening) opens just as reliably and, depending on the opening mechanism, even faster than having to fiddle with a lever lock
>>63887726>really heavy medieval warhammer? like 50 pounds or more. This isn't a thing that exists. Go get some weightlifting equipment or something.
>>63882444 (OP)Outside of weebshit why do Tantos get shit on compared to things like drop point or clever styles?
I fucking hate stonewash so much its unreal
>>63888638He's got a point. Buy a Vosteed Corgi or something similar, press the button and flick it out and in. Love to fidget with mine.
>>63884706How do you sharpen the spiral one?
>>63882444 (OP)thanks for bringing back the knife general
>>63888895because it's meant to be a "strong point" instead of a piercing point
>>63888011looks good danke
>>63888638i guess it doesnt have to be automatic i just really like the feel of it flipping open on its own
>>63888995ill check it out
>>63882444 (OP)Is there anyone out there making modern gravity knives? I used to have one of the later Luftwaffe paratrooper knives (The ones with the green plastic handles) and I found it pretty useful for everyday stuff, but they've become tough to find.
>>63889049Dude, it's for display only. It doesn't get dull. You might wear it with your wizard cloak, that's about it.
is kershaws launch 8 worth the money?
>>63888995For fidgeting, edc and generally looking sleek maybe. But since he wants it for defense, I'd rather recommend something thats less sleek and sinple, has a proper, big flippertab for ease of use when time is of the essence, and a grippy handle shape that prevents your hand from slipping onto the blade. Theres numerous examples, even from the same manufacturer.
>>63887636They make a spear version that I think is at least more fitting.
>>63889049They don't even have a how to video on that. It's marketed as a stabby knife, and say that keeping the point sharp is the only real thing you can do. It would be really impractical as a hack or slash.
>>63889662Very much this. It was a Christmas gift from my uncle. It's cool that using it would be a war crime and all. But for several reasons, I would never take it anywhere off my property. Legal takes second place to looking like a turbofag. It was a gift, it was expensive, it's a dust collector.
>>63888895Because they don't really provide any practical benefits over blades with more traditional shapes.
Though I will say, I personally think the meme "pocket cleaver" shit is stupid. But that's just me.
>>63889954>>>63887636 (You) #>They make a spear version that I think is at least more fitting..>>>63889662 (You) #>Very much thisI see your enchanted trwisty wizard knife and raise you a folding Scythe of Doom
>>63890444>Scythe of DoomYou are in trouble now, mine has rose embellished bolsters. It's actually, surprisingly, really nice.
>>63882444 (OP)Got rid of almost all my mall ninja stuff post college/right when covid hit. Been acquiring ones here and there in the time since but have not cleaned out the knife shelf for a family photo in years.
>>63890444>>63890454At least it's not a tactical tomahawk.
I got this one from a Snap On raffle. It's kinda cool, but the handle is thin and small.
>>63890526>no LotR StingI thought you'd be more normal.
>>63890545I may never harvest wheat by hand, but at least I can! (Actually, it would suck to reap more than a sheave.)
>>63890526Digging the Cold Steel BBC.
>>63890620I've got a real thresher and a wheat hand scythe. But they're both from the 1800s. Both would be impractical to use as a weapon. The wheat scythe is really light and thin, and the way a thresher works would make trying to fight with it really stupid.
>>63890655>he way a thresher works would make trying to fight with it really stupid. This is the og use for numb cucks, so yeah.
>>63890666I'll see if I can find a pic of them. The thresher looks really bad ass. Like, classic reaper look. But the way the handle is curved and the way the grips and blades are angled makes it only good for swinging it really low. But it's probably the coolest thing I found as a kid.
>>63890699>The thresher looks really bad ass. Like, classic reaper lookThat's also called a scythe, a thresher is a long stick attached to a shorter stick with a rope or chain
>>63889705the spring action is too strong on mine, it is unpleasant to open. looks pretty cool and the fine point is nice when you need it
>>63890732Terms like
>sheaves>scythe>winnow>thresh>reapAre out of the common vernacular and prone to misuse due to the nonagrarian nature of modern life.
>>63890732>>63891050I dunno. That's just what my grandfather told me it was.
>>63890655>wheat hand scytheA sickle.
>>63890526whats that really cool western style dagger with the stag handle? nice collection i really dig the swiss pioneer bayo i still regret not buying one when they were like $100 20 years ago my k31 needs it so bad
>>63891661>cool western style daggerYou mean a Bowie knife or Arkansas Toothpick?
>>63891664no because its neither as you can see in the pic its clearly a double edged spear point dagger. this is a bowie
>>63891661Ren Faire pickup, from Busch Fine Arts, $150 10xx steel IIRC. Has some off center designs. Really lightweight and thinner than you'd think but actually makes it useful for utility.
>>63890614That's because I have the Museum Collection Glamdring + the OG blue scabbard instead, but if we're getting into swords that's a whole separate issue. 1 Albion (Alpha Omega I poached when Canada got covid fucked), 3 Arms and Armors swords + 1 spear, 1 Darksword I got dirt cheap, 1 Valiant Armoury, a few odds and ends of other pieces, and about 150+ antique sabres and dueling swords lmao.

Preparing game at all? If you deal with humidity and moisture stainless would be better but a 1060/1075/1080 type carbon blade would be solid.
>https://www.buckknives.com/product/105-pathfinder-knife/?sku=0105BKS-B is the little brother of the venerated 119 special. 420 steel but you dont seem like a snob. Leather sheath. A classic look that is going to be less aggressive looking in the eyes of park authorities or any police. Honestly though, even with a pretty low budget you have so many options my only advice is to search through all the sellers. Check for sales, even check the blade forums for deals since you arent concerned with a NIB S2112v Microtech. Buck, Kershaw, Cold Steel (overbuilt but with a good, DAMN good warranty), Ka-Bar, CRKT, etc.
>https://www.bladehq.com/cat--Camping-Knives--3259#/filter:blade_length:4:5/filter:price:50:100 check the maker on here and god help me for saying this, but Reddit, just to make sure it isnt a drop ship Chinese POS, but pretty much anything in this category is G2G. If you are not in North America you'll maybe have other options as well. >>63895714+1 for Mora/Puukko in general, the composite grip and old style blade makes it almost invisible to most people as a "weapon" and you can carry it almost anywhere.
>>63894020Looks like it'll buff out.
>>63896665If you need me to tell you, you probably shouldn't.
>>63883773It's like a hand sickle. Regardless of the size it's going to cut well due to the inwards curve meaning that it easily "snags" and draws more material into itself. If you want one for "fighting" or self-defense you should probably get some kind of hawkbill or linoleum like that other guy said but it heavily depends on carry/defense laws where you live. If the curve isn't so exaggerated they still stab pretty well. It's quite a lot easier to KILL someone using most other knives where you can just pull the sewing machine routine especially if you have no fighting or martial arts experience. However, you have some more options for less-lethal options with karambit-style blades and they're a bit harder to disarm if used properly. As for actual models I've only used the FX-599 and the Cold Steel Tiger Claw. Both use wave-style openings and deploy well. Make sure you get a metal/rubber practice version and actually do some drills and practice draws. Don't be silly and think that you only have to use them in a reverse grip, either.

Been wanting one for a while and finally got one of these in good condition, a Boker Superliner (not my photo). Several versions were produced in the late 90s and early 00s, but the late 90s model number 2063 with the 2000 in the titanium handles is the best of the bunch imo.
Just a really cool piece. representative of the style of customs from the time, (i believe this is a Michael Walker design actually), and also very fitting with the Y2K esthetic of the period.
Lockup and action are good (teflon washers are overhated if you ask me), ergonomics are ok but clearly take a backseat to style.

>>63906797I would unironically suggest the Benchmade Anthem except that it's a benchmade, cost over $400 and is no longer made
I love this thing so much, punches well above its price. Smoothest, most reliable action ive ever owned. I just wish they'd make them in more blade shapes. Spear is really the only good option so that's what I got. Tanto and Reverse Tanto are such memes, and Dagger is the best for fighting but terrible for actually using it as a knife. I consider a knife a tool first and foremost and only a weapon as a last resort...
Id kill for a Bowie or a drop point version. Love a nice slicey belly. This belly is okay but it isn't the greatest, and the tip is essentially sewing needle thin which is magnificent for utility cuts or stabbing flesh but im scared to hard use it... I know magnacut is supposed to be pretty tough and all but it is ridiculously thin at the tip.

>>63915640They're not. They're fidget toys for massive autismo faggots to consooom and circlejerk about constantly over imperceptible and ultimately irrelevant differences between them. The only thing they're ever used for is to open boxes of new folders and to flood actual knife threads with cancer.

Fixed blade discussions usually involve what the knife has been used for or is intended to be used for. Fixed blades are tools and weapons.
Folder discussions are always about inane minutia about which lock a folder has and what new color just came out. Folders are pokemon and matchbox cars.

>>63917018Carrying a fixed blade concealed in my state isnโt exactly legal. Which is sad because I probably have a dozen or more pocket fixed blade knives.
>>63917018>Folder discussions are always about inane minutiaI don't call having all the screw heads aligned it perfectly uniform rotation "miutia", more like "attention to detail." If you don't care about quality, use a sharp stick and call it a knife for all I care. It would suit your mouth breathing metality.

>>63917018>Am I wrong?Yes, you fucking niggerfaggot.
Which knives in this thread are yours? Or have you not even posted any?
>>63917018by the same logic an AR or AK thread should only be full of images of holes in targets and occasionally tactics discussion, but check and youll instead see loads of talk of individual parts, builds, attachments etcetera. mechanical function, history and design, that's whats interesting, and infact what I want MORE, more in-depth, of.
and while all of these apply to fixed blades in some degree (historical aspects and design certainly, mechanical aspects less so) there's more of that to talk about in folders.
if you want to talk what you last used your fixed blade for perhaps check out /ck/ and /out/ because I guarantee you weren't stabbing anybody just now. Or post in this here thread of what you use for hunting and why.

After spending 3 hours in 95 burgerunit degree sun chopping these bullshit little bush/sapling things that are too thick to weed whack and not somewhere I can use a lawnmower I've decided I want a 40-48 inch long, (including handle), machete so I can chop things at ground level without needing to lean over. (I have a brush axe already but it's somewhere between "dogshit" and "totally useless").
Any recommendations? The only place that sells something like that is Cold Steel, which I've always heard is mall ninja prime but if all I need is a sharp long bit of steel would their shit be suitable? I don't plan to use it for battling ninjas or anything, but I also want it to not immediately fall apart since I'm sure I'll end up accidentally chopping some rock or dirt etc with it when I'm cutting shrubs at ground level.

Why does /k/ in general get super mad if you spend 2-300 bucks on a knife? Niggers will argue until theyโre blue in the face about buying a gun that costs twice as much for marginal improvements but if you dare want the same thing in a knife itโs the worst thing on earth
>>63942653I hope you get a disease and die a slow painful death
>>63946938Because steelnis steel and if it cuts it cuts. Knives are toys that don't replace a gun, fork, axe, or saw. Just get a knife from the gass station (or knife center) and be done. It's not even like a pistol you use to fight your way to your rifle.

It's kinda hard to justify those sort of prices with blade steel, heat treat, and QC alone, especially these days. Even chinese knives are getting kinda good, it's a little concerning honestly
Granted, all of this is coming from someone who's only spent over $100 before shipping on a knife once, and that was on a kabar, so higher end shit has just never interested me enough to warrant dropping half a check on one. To each their own though, you can judge me for collecting gay military knives like an autist, and I can judge you for spending $300 on something to open packages and blister packs with
>>63946990Do yourself a favor and upgrade to atleast a slightly better knife than gas station quality. You don't need to spend a shitload of money on it, hell, you could probably get a decent one for under $50.
