Correct water Jerry Can markings?
Hey /k/ I need some professional answers.

Those plastic 5 gallon Jerry Cans (the ones made by Scepter and being in use with the US military), how would those for water be marked? I know that the lid of the water can is different than a fuel can but would there be any color coded markings and/or stenciled words? Perhaps any .mil bros who can give some insights?
t. scale modeler who's pretty anal about his details being correct.

BTW: strictly talking about "modern" plastic Jerry cans

The lids are different sizes so you couldn't mix them up if you tried.

It says water on there lol. Water cans have one handle on top, fuel cans have three. There’s no universal SOP for marking cans but they usually have the company and platoon number stenciled or spray painted on them. (Not like it matters, get they swapped all the time and you end up with a random mishmash of other platoon’s water cans)

At JRTC, two retarded privates poured JP8 in their canteens and almost drank it by mistake until their squad leader stopped them. I don’t know how you can be that braindead, but it almost happened.

This.
One handle= water
Three handles=fuel/oil/hydraulic fluid(FRH)

I'm pretty sure I never saw a tan fuel marked can, they were all Olive. I never saw an Olive water marked can either. Looking online both of those exceptions seem to exist.

I'm no expert, but I reckon the one with DIESEL written on duct tape might contain diesel

No clue, but it was funny seeing the message on the signal group chats warning not to drink from the fuel cans

They already have "WATER" written on them. If you were really concerned you'd field mod them with a sharpie so any retard holding it can see "WATER" on it.

JP-8 is kerosene based, not that it matters much should still be very noticable if you expect water, just won't have as voilent offgassing as avgas as it evaporates slower.

There are usually no specific markings. Sometimes units may stencil and spraypaint them to deter other units from stealing their stuff.

As someone who paints minis/models I know its a waste of time to research shit on 4chan when you can just google it.

Like others have said, the water ones have a single handle while the fuel ones have three. This is the case on not only the Scepter cans, but the metal ones as well
The Scepter water cans also have a small cap on top of the main cap so you can sip from it or attach a pump. The fuel ones just have the big main cap so you can't use them like a sippy cup.

The caps are also different. The water cans have larger diameter but shorter external threads, no internal threads, and small vent and pour caps built into the main cap. Fuel cans have a solid cap that is smaller in diameter but taller than the water caps, and the cans themselves have both external internal threads.

Tan fuel cans and olive water cans exist and have been issued. I have a both.
Anonymous No.63901911 >>63902143
>Fuel cans
No consistent markings. Units who got stuff that doesn't just use Diesel (F-54) may paint the entire top of the jerrycan accordingly (e.g. yellow for diesel, red for mogas etc)
>Water cans
Usually not marked at all because the physical differences of the jerrycan are enough. That being said I've seen some cans having
W
A
T
E
R
stenciled on the narrow front and rear sides. Letters in white or black (depends on if its a tan or olive can).
Unit markings are always on the broad sides at the lowermost part of the jerrycan.

So OP already wrote that he knows about the different lids.

Sometimes I think I'm surrounded by retards. Not only did they not read OP's entire post but also the rest of the posts.

MIL-STD 171 and DM 10-52 only allow tan for water containers. This became a thing during GWOT.
I know there are exceptions but if we go by the book its
>Tan jerrycan = Water
>Olive jerrycan = Fuel
I bought me two specters a couple of years back and made sure they were tan too.
