What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo.

The shot was actually on video. Don't have the webm on my phone. It's as blurry as you'd expect a 2+ mile shot to be, but the travel time matches up.

Pic rel is the round his rifle shoots, compared side by side with .50 BMG.

Isn’t a 2+ mile shot really just a matter of pure luck? If for no reason other than it is impossible to measure and correct for wind. If I attempt a sufficient number of 2 mile shots, I am eventually going to make a hit. That, or I have to slowly walk my shots in on target like the world’s slowest machinegun. That is what we’re talking about here, right? Zero chance he made the shot on the first try, more like the tenth or twentieth try, at best. At 2 miles, even something that can normally be dismissed as trivial, like the gun beginning to move before the bullet has exited the barrel, becomes the difference between a hit and a miss if not accounted for. A hundredth of a degree of rifle can’t constitutes a miss. A single fps at the muzzle moves your point of impact by ~7” at 4000yds.

Ultra long range shooting isn’t real. It’s just a roll of the dice. Point of impact becomes far too sensitive to initial conditions, more than one has control over.

As few other anons said, it is purely based on luck at that range but with the meatwave mobiks there are tons of good chances for it

I just remember the story of the team that got a 2,200 meter shot.
It was in the sandbox and they only landed a hit because the sand people liked to ignore incoming fire to prove how brave they were. They took like 15 shots at a guy standing still to prove he was brave.

As for physics the bullet is going subsonic at that range which means a transonic period that is unstable and accuracy goes to shit.

I'm a moderate but don't believe everything you hear.

Doesn’t matter how basic the physics of trajectory are. It’s not possible for one to have a sufficient degree of control over the initial conditions on the gunshot (velocity, BC, sighting, rifle cant, etc) to make a hit at 2 miles without massively factoring in luck . You have to know your velocity within 1-2fps of accuracy, you must know your BC to like 3 significant digits, etc. At this range, things like altitude, atmospheric pressure, and temperature absolutley must be considered. And that’s before we get to the unsolvable problem of correcting for wind, which can not be measured in the first place, much less corrected for. Basically the only way around wind is infinite BC. One small gust of wind results in a miss at 2 miles.

So yes, that other anon is right to cast doubt on a 3800m hit, or Atleast doubt that it is the result of the shooter’s exceptional skill as opposed to blind luck (if it even happened).

I’ll add that this is similar to a double pendulum. if I give you the initial conditions with some - but not infinite - accuracy, you can predict the position of the system 1 second into the future, within some acceptable (and predefined) level of accuracy. But you can not predict with the same accuracy its position 5 or 10 seconds from now, so you can not reverse engineer the whole thing to find the initial position which will yield x final position at t=5 seconds. It’s beyond our horizon of prediction-making because we are not all-knowing physics engines.

About the only prediction you can make about a 2 mile shot is that the bullet will impact somewhere within a gigantic circle/ellipse, several dozen yards in diameter (best case), more or less centered around your target.

Yes, skill is required to shrink the impact zone radius, but within that, it’s just target area divided by impact zone area = hit probability. And that’s where luck comes in.

Because sniping like this is only useful when your arty/mech/air support is more limited than your adversary's, that's why the only armed groups in the world that actively uses anti-materiel caliber sniper rifles are poorfags like Ukies, Houtis and Indians.

The other use case for such rifle is counter-insurgency in wide open areas. See Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, South Africa.

It's an insurgent's weapon. Russians aren't rich, but enough so as to snipe with 30mm or bigger when 7,62 doesn't cut it.

Horizon's Lord uses off-the-shelf .50 BMG projectiles mounted on custom 14,5x114 cases. You could track the projo used easily.
>hitting transonic at ~2600 meters
That's pretty good on the rifle system. But that also proves a 3,8 km shot is 99% luck.

My intuition is sound, I didn’t even know the parent case but figured 20kft*lbs must be right based on case volume. 14.5mm makes 22-24k ft*lbs, necking it down to .510 reduces efficiency a bit, so 3500fps/20kft*lbs is most likely correct.

As for the bullet, I just assumed 750gr with a form factor of 0.9.

If unknowable wind/velocity variance accounts for a 5moa grouping, and the target, distant guy's vitals, is .25moa, then the area of the grouping is 410 times bigger than the area of the target. So you've got a 1 in 410 chance of success if your aim is perfect, and the same chance if your aim has 4.5 moa of error.
So that would be 99.76% luck, and 0% impressive aiming, since we can take a 4moa shooting from a rest for granted. The 0.24% can be split between the impressive ballistics and the observation/knowledge that led to knowing the right place to try to aim.

>the side that has more artillery
*had, and is now inching towards local inferiority in areas because ukraine needs less artillery to be as effective as russia, ukrainians respond faster, have longer range, and are more accurate, also they've been slowly erasing russia's larger numbers with their better counter-battery, which is why russia is going to lose the artillery battle
>drones
ukraine simply has more and better drones, and more well trained drone crews, wrong again
>missiles
russia is doing innacurate missiles chimpouts with reducing frequency because their manufacturing can't keep up, their C3 is also slow so all the mobile targets they try to hit tend to be gone before they get a shot, which is why they tend to focus on civilian targets, not very effective in a war against a military.
>troops
completely demotivated meat mobiks that get 1 week of training where they don't even get to shoot a gun as much as a western soldier would get in 1 day of training, sent into trenches to die instantly and get replaced with more meat, which is fueling russia's quickening pop crisis as these are the ones in the age range that can have children.
>resources
can't do shit with resources if you can't turn them into manufacturing, and they're having trouble selling many of them above a price they'd break even with due to sanctions, hence the rapidly increasing debt.
>is actually taking heavier losses
yep, real life is not like your toddler-brained version with the world, you don't smash two soldier toys into eachother and one side wins because they had more soldier toys, turns out being corrupt, inefficient and callous about your soldier's lives means you lose wars, who would've thunk?

need what, the 5 km of ground russia has taken since like 2023? no, not really, ukraine would rather have the 1.000.000+ dead ziggers along with even more casualties. winning so slowly that your victory will happen 2000 years from now is not winning, sorry, ask the germans in ww1.
>i can't wait until zelenskyiv
HAHAHAHAHA
it's still very chuckle inducing how much those two letter changes gives you people a constant aneurism and reduced lifespan every time you see it, like, i don't even use the correct spelling because i care, but because it just automatically sends malformed retards like you into a tizzy for no reason.
>I-IT'S MA'AM UKROP!
lel
>doesn't need kyiv anymore
pray tell, failure at life zigger nigger, how will russia take kyiv exactly?

>>63907808
>let themselves be encircled and annihalated in bahkmut
projection, a major part of russia's army, wagner, literally fucking choked, died, and then turned around and tried to coup the russian govt because ziggers were dying so badly.
you never actually encircled the ukrainians, they dug in and when the situation became untenable they retreated, that's the key difference between ukrops and zigger subhumans, and the main reason why ukrainians just don't suffer anywhere near the horrendous casualties your favourite shithole does, they don't hold positions until they die, they live to fight another day, deathcultism is not a real strategy.

lemme guess
>i-i d-didn't read because i can't let you know that i am angry and have no actual retort
i pre-emptively accept your concession and loss.

What armor rating would have stopped the shot from that distance? That is a bigass rifle shooting a bigass bullet, but 2.4 miles is pretty fucking far. I'd feel confident NIJ IV would stop it at that range... confident enough to bet money on it, not confident enough to test it myself LOL. (This is assuming it's not an AP round)

You can't even acquire the target in the scope to account for that much drop. This must have taken dozens of shots to finally range in and then land. Are we sure the Ukies measured the range correctly and also didn't slow down the video to exaggerate the travel time? Slavs are generally not honest people.

According to my (probably very accurate) BC and velocity estimate (>>63902963), shooter’s calculator says the bullet will have ~1500ft*lbs at 4000 yards. But that’s over a .510 frontal area. So sectional energy is not that high - same as a 290 ft*lb .224, so like a 5.7x28. But the bullet does have a very fine shape and a shitload of section momentum.

I would not take my chances. At 4000yds, it’s still a 50AE deagle firing a superheavy spitzer.

>2) you can’t know that there’s no wind, lol. What if it’s windy downrange, but calm at your position? It’s still luck because it’s all unknowable. You’ll have to fire a couple shots to asses the net effect wind has on your trajectory, and control for it that way.

At that range, it takes tremendous skill (physical and mental) just to get the barrel pointed in exactly the right spot in order to give an unguided bullet a *chance* at hitting the target. Thus, the shooter's abilities are still praised, despite the element of chance involved.

It always was an excellent long range cartridge, just wasn’t used that way. It’s a super high sectional energy cartridge intended to penetrate really hard shit. This selects for the same superlatives as long range performance, except for shot-to-shot consistency, but that’s more about the way ammo is manufactured. It’s Wild though that he made a mile+ hit from a machinegun of all things. Isn’t the m2’s accuracy like 3moa?

The OP image explicitly describes it as "longest confirmed sniper kill". "Confirmed" meaning that it's the longest we have proof of actually happening.

Seriously. I couldn’t tell from the video. Could be that the guys just got down when a bullet impacted the ground beneath them. At 4000yds, whatever the hell that 14.5/50BMG is called still has 1500ft*lbs of energy. That’s a 50Ae deagle at the muzzle

it is, but being able to spin that roulette at all requires near perfect accuracy, so i'd say it's still pretty impressive.

Not really. That Bong sniper who once had the longest range kill hit three targets in the space of 5 seconds, including a HMG which he shot and damaged beyond use and he did it with .338. Bar two or three, the longest range sniper kills are all .50BMG or larger. Then there was that Aussie or Canadian group that did a 'group kill' where three people shot the same target to confirm a kill from three different angles and since all three targets hit, nobody knew who inflicted the kill, so that is more impressive that Kovalskiy, since it's three different marksmen hitting the same man-sized target from the same distance at the same time.
