I don't think they're quite at that point yet. The national fund they've been emptying to keep things normal (despite their voluntary state of existential war with evil HATO Atlanticists) is down to maybe 25% now, though.
It'll probably be empty next year, at which point they will be facing a number of interesting fiscal decisions since their economy isn't growing and nobody wants to lend them money.

They still are and it still is, by their own typical measurement of success: dead Russians. Consider their idolatry of Lenin, Stalin, Dzerzhinsky, etc - whoever managed to kill as many of them as possible.

Ziggers are indeed fearsome fighters because they employ that unpredictable, drunken (krokodil-fiend, AIDS-ridden) master style. You'd think you wouldn't have to worry about the clearly mined field in which scraps of them already lay, the toxic pipe no sane man would dare go through, let alone return from, or even that abhorrently failed ideology that already got so many of them killed and by all accounts drained the gene pool, when that's precisely what they'll zerg rush next again and again.

They've been running a budget deficit like 4x that of last year for a few months now. They may be stretching out the remaining liquid assets by instead forcing their state-owned or state-adjacent banks & other corporations to lend them money.
The banks and their customers are likely expendable, like the pidors in the pipe.

one week ago:

>Russia's wartime economic momentum is fading fast, with key resources nearly exhausted, Russian Central Bank Governor Elvira Nabiullina said, warning that the country can no longer rely on the same tools that sustained growth in the first two years of the full-scale war against Ukraine, the Moscow Times reported on June 19.

>Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Nabiullina said that the Russian economy had been expanding on the back of "free resources," including labor, industrial capacity, bank capital reserves, and liquid assets from the National Wealth Fund (NWF) β€” all of which are now reportedly nearing depletion.

>"We grew for two years at a fairly high pace because free resources were activated," she said. "We need to understand that many of those resources have truly been exhausted."

Huh, last I heard they had maybe $50B of assets left in there. Either those are something they can't spend because of the sanctions, or they don't want to because they're related to projects/infrastructure they'd like to keep their hands on, or they already spent them.
Probably wasn't enough for this year's deficit anyway. How sustainable is it to run a 10-15% budget deficit with basically zero economic growth and interest rates starting from 20% ?

from the same speech:
>Unemployment in Russia has dropped to a historic low of 2.3%, while mass emigration and the mobilisation of men for the war have created a labour shortage estimated at two million people.

>Capacity utilisation at Russian enterprises has exceeded 80%, the highest level in modern Russian history.

>Liquid assets in the NWF have shrunk threefold since the start of the war, falling to RUB 2.8 trillion (approx. US$35 billion).

>The fund’s currency reserves have declined to CNY 153.7 billion (approx. US$21 billion), the lowest since the fund’s creation in 2008, and its gold reserves have dropped to 139.5 tonnes from over 400 tonnes before the full-scale invasion.

>Corporate profits in Russia fell by one-third in March and by half in the oil and gas sector. Industrial growth slowed to a near standstill with only 1.2% growth from January to April, and civilian sectors have started to decline.

Not quite, because when you have a shortage of workers, state owned companies fight over them to fulfill their mandated quotas, with deleterious effects since they pull their funds from the state directly or through loans from banks the state has coerced to pay ever increasing salaries for an ever dwindling pool of able-bodied workers. It's a ticking time bomb.

The line I've been hearing is that the Russian army has the Ukrainian's right where they want them- in the field being attracted away. They'll never surrender, there's no amount of territory that will make the average Ukrainian decide they want to be Russian, so just grinding them down to nothing IS the goal.

Seems pretty cope to me; even against literal og Nazis, slamming your face into your opponent's line was considered inefficient and only desirable in so far as you needed to break through.

>Trofim Lysenko
Didn't this guy seethe so hard at the scientists who proved him wrong that he had the NKVD disappear (and probably torture-murder) them? Not sure if the application of math to large-scale biology ever recovered in the Soviet Union.
Stalin seemed to like how efficiently he had the farmers organized to execute his ideas. Probably killed millions when the crops failed, but anyways. Forcing the peasants to do great things is what the great Soviet Union was all about.

Said ideas later spread to the China and may have played a part in tens of millions of Chinese dying in famines, so they did accomplish something I suppose.

I wouldn't be surprised large part of Russians want to end it too. But it's a little different for them. A lot of the soviet bullshit is integrated into their identity. E.g. it's easy for me to say fuck Communist party and Lenins corpse, because it's an oppressor in another foreign city. For Russian in many cases it would be equivalent to saying fuck my country, leaders and heritage. And they have no freedom to untangle this soviet mess as long as old nomenclatura farts are still alive and hell-bent on maintaining it.

It's not really a mystery. It's standard ponzi-like overheated wartime economy measures. Forcing bankers at gunpoint to give you bad loans and keep interest rates artificially low. Expanding veterans benefits while having no plan to ever follow through on those promises later on. Importing labor from third world countries. Selling futures in assets that will never exist. This will all come crashing down at some point, most likely immediately after a peace deal is signed, which is a major part of why they're so resistant to even a 30 day ceasefire.

Straight up thousands were fired and many of them imprisoned or executed. Lysenkoism was one of the worst crimes the Soviets inflicted upon humanity.
