I miss the era of tabletop reviews from average Joes making up the majority of gun content videos. The high production values and fancy personal shooting ranges of newer channels only add entertainment value, but nothing more if you're researching a gun for a purchase, and at least I knew the guy with only 845 views on his video wasn't shilling. Shooting a pistol out of the box is stupid, I learned the hard way. I used to clean every new gun I bought, the I ran into Military Arms Channel beard guy who tests his guns out of the box even though that's wrong. It says in every manual to clean it first.

So I took a brand new cz p0-1 to the range without cleaning, and it had cosmaline on it, and preserving oil. And it jammed 4 times in 300 rounds, and I could barely rack the slide at the end. Shortstrocking and slide failing to lock back.

So I cleaned it and put an additional 415 rounds of hp and ball through it, not a single issue.

Mostly just a gun autist who's half decent at long range shooting. Ordnance officer before he did full time YT, but idk what jobs he actually did. For all I know he managed small arms testing and programs, but probably not. His stuff kind of hasn't been as interesting or thorough (eg reviewing pretty niche modern hypebeast stuff instead of classic and iconic tacticool stuff) since he went full time, which is a shame but seems to be the way it goes once it becomes a full time job and there's a tighter content schedule to meet so I'm not really judging. Haven't watched a massive amount of his post-full time stuff so I don't feel qualified to pass judgement on it, but his earlier stuff was good quality and seldom wrong (outright wrong, like he has opinions that I don't agree with, but he doesn't just throw out weird fuddlore).

You need to have some degree of creativity in the presentation.
Can't just be dry stats and demonstrations, need to present what you do in a way that sticks out but retains some flavor.
Think about how guys like Hickock and Paul carved a niche by either playing up the fact that they were the friendly old grandpa type, or had years of experience and could easily go into detail on any given subject and share countless experiences, but still knew when to let live results speak for themselves.

So the media spent a couple of years saying "these assault style weapons can fire an average of 50-60 rounds per minute" because for them that scares the public enough for the purpose and gets the people bitching and moaning off their case.
