I'm a noob still, but I tried different grips for recoil control and found the following:

Bob Vogel
>vice grip with both arms locked out
Hickock45
>right arm locked, left arm bent
Lena Miculek
>firm grip, elbows bent and raised kinda high

All of them hit insane shots, but that girly grip with the elbows bent gave me the best results so far.

I shoot all of those stances, and can shoot well with them all. I find that Bob's for fast defensive shots to be the best, and Miculek's best for precision.

Man those are some pretty strict requirements. Star firestars are cheap but not especially notable. The only thing that comes to mind as being a nice gun that fits those requirements is the S&W model 39. Under 500 can be done.
And yes smith 3rd gens are great if you want to drop the milsurp requirement. 3913 with wood grips and you've got a subcompact with the look you seem to want.

To be fair, I have carried every single gun in this picture.

S&W 3rd gens people keep saying are unreliable, but those could be glocksuckers, the complaints I've heard were that the pistols were expensive (over twice the price of glocks) and not much better. S&W 3rd gens go for cheap, the 3913 or 3914 "lady smith" is a decent carry option as it's a thin single stack DA/SA 9mm. I think one of the thinnest 9mms ever made. Beretta 92 Type M compacts are also single stack but are hard to track down.

I did a more in-depth one a few threads back when asked but here ya go in case you missed it. Keep in mind I have the 380 so recoil is harsher than 32.
>Well-built, feels solid and dependable, works without the extractor as you can see in the image
>Harsh recoil. Very long double action+short frame back to front made for an awkward grip in my larger hands that exacerbated the recoil issue.
>Only feeds hollowpoints and flat nose with short enough OAL. flat nose 380 is hard to find so training with it is rather expensive.
>No sights of any kind, completely flat top so hard to be accurate fast at any sort of distance beyond 5 yards.

it's a great gun for what it is. probably the most shootable j frame I own. is next light and has almost zero recoil. I'm running federal premium hst w/e (purple box) and it's like 38+p out of a sp101. it's actually fun to plink with 32 long. Not something I'd do with the 340, even with regular 38.

I've decided that I definitely want a manual safety

> OMFG WHAT A DUMB IDEA!! YOU MIGHT FORGET TO DISENGAGE THE SAFETY!! THERE'S NO WAY THAT YOU'LL REMEMBER TO DISENGAGE THE SAFETY WHEN YOU NEED TO DEFEND YOURSELF!! THERE'S NO POSSIBLE WAY!!!

...on my 1911

> well duh. Obviously you need a manual safety. The 1911 platform is over 100 years old. They all have manual safeties. It's never been a problem. What are you even talking about?

omg what if I forget to pull the trigger?? What if I just """forget""" how triggers work?? I need a firearm with no trigger because I cannot possibly remember all the complicated steps!! <---- this is how you sound when you imagine that people will forget to disengage a safety. It's just as dumb as imaging that someone will forget to pull the trigger.

It's a machine. You have to learn the steps to operate it. This normally called a manual of arms. If you have a safety (and you should) then you just learn to disengage it. It's not a big deal. 1911 guys aren't rocket scientists. They're mostly boomer biker gangs. Just try to be as smart as them.

I went to a new (to me) outdoor range recently and a local PD had reserved the 50 yard range so I shot at the range bay right next to them assuming it was 25 yards.
Turns out that was the 50 yard and the cops set up on the 25 yard range instead of what they reserved. I was wondering why I was only landing 50% of my shots on a 10x10 target. Normally at 25 yards I get 80-90% in a 6 inch spread so I thought I was really slipping

For the same or similar barrel length and weight of gunโ€ฆ and assuming your comparing middle of the road 454 vs middle of the road 44 mag, not weak 454 vs buffalo bores hottest 44 Iโ€™d say itโ€™s about 30-50% more kick, itโ€™s a lot louder, although some of that might be that the snubnose 454 has an inch and half or so less barrel.. it definitely has more โ€œshockโ€ due to being a good bit higher pressure than 44.

You will probably want a couple spare magazines at least so you can fire 100 bullets without having to reload the mags.
9mm is the perfect do-it-all handgun caliber and anyone who tells you to buy something else is memeing.
Bigger guns are more fun to shoot but less fun to carry. A full size Glock fully loaded is around 35 ounces and that is pretty much as heavy as you want to go if you are carrying it around all day every day.
Invest in a good holster.

Baker targets.
https://bakertargets.com

They do custom onesโ€ฆ min order is 250โ€ฆ. I bought a 250 pack of the bear ones.. about 120$ total after tax and shippingโ€ฆ. As long as it isnโ€™t a crazy amount more Iโ€™m tempted to see if theyโ€™ll do the โ€œhostageโ€ target, but with a bear holding a hikerโ€ฆ although someone today suggested it be a bear holding a large jar of honey hostageโ€ฆ which would be fucking amazingโ€ฆ. I usually shoot bullseyes though and itโ€™s also really tempting to see if theyโ€™ll do a large paper target with as many 6 inch bullseyes as can be fit on itโ€ฆ I usually shoot the 5 in one small square bullseye target, but the middle one on those is bigger than the cornersโ€ฆ it would be nice to have some for testing multiple loads at multiple ranges with maybe a label line on each bullseye for the the load data and rangeโ€ฆ. If I could do 4 wide by 6 tall it would save a lot of wasted paper, and mean Iโ€™d use a lot less targets per trip..

Guns.com is a shitty store IMO, well, they completely isolate the buyer and the seller. So you cannot get the seller just not ship the magazines. There is no exceptions to this, it's fucking annoying

I'm actually the reason they added WA to the ban list, I kept trying to buy a gun and telling them to just ship the gun only.

With Gunbroker, some won't sell to WA flat outright due to some WA liability lawsuit thing if you sell a gun to somebody who then commits crimes but many just ship anyway and your FFL will have to deal with the magazines. Some FFLs don't like having to take the liability of the mags, some confiscate them, some will ship them to your friend out of state, you should talk to your FFL.

There are USP Experts that come with 10 round mags only

Got the pistol like a year ago as a starter pistol cheap etc etc. Didn't know much about guns. But been to the range several times with the sccy. Had a few malfunctions from limp wrist shooting. But when I improved grip it stopped. Also one of the mags wouldn't load the last round a few times but after using it more it seemed to stop. Not jammed or something it just the slide had to be pulled one more time it then fired. What would be a better gun? Should I get another 9mm or a 45? Guys, is the CZ Shadow 2 a thing in the US?
I'm from Austria and naturally bought a Glock as my first Gun this year. Patriotism and stuff like that.

Anyway: I noticed that every other dude at the range has a Shadow 2. Depending on the version, that shit costs you 1.600 - 2.100 Euros (1.875 - 2.460 Dollars), while my G17 Gen5 MOS was 810 Euros (950 Dollars).

Have you tried the Shadow? What's your opinion? Because I'm guessing it's just marketing.

This is just my opinion, so consider it automatically to be full of shit. That being said, I have shot with several CZ's and I own 75 B model.

I I kinda found Shadow 2 to be... a step backwards. It's not a bad gun by any means, but I somehow got the feeling that it's ...the the model where they overtly started cutting corners or something.

The ergonomics are not as good as previous models. It feels like they wanted to streamline the production to bump up the production numbers, and it shows. There are more angular cuts in the handle in particular. The older models feel better in your hands. Just compare it to something like CZ SP-01 and you see that SP-01 even looks more polished. More user-centered, rather than production centered. Or something.

Shadows (especially shadow 2) is made for efficient production on the expense of user experience and ergonomics. It's made as a "cash cow" model. And it apparently worked for the company, as they have been selling them to everyone and their mothers. But personally, I just preferred the older models. They feel better in your hand.

Again, just my opinion.

The Shadow 2 is a competition gun. This means that it's easy AF to shoot. What makes it easy to shoot?
>steel frame reduces recoil and muzzle flip
>full size is easy to hold and grip with your support hand
>hammer-fired means it has a nicer trigger with lots of room for refinement via gunsmithing
>longish barrel allows for good ballistics
>good capacity magazines
>the most popular competition gun means it has loads of aftermarket support

If you live in a country where the number of guns you're allowed to own is restricted, then I could see a Shadow 2 being a popular choice. However, Glocks are solid, dependable duty guns with tons of benefits too. You really can't go wrong buying a Glock as your first gun and learning to shoot on it.

If you git gud with your Glock, the day you try out something like a Shadow 2, you'll have enough experience and fundamental skill to recognize all of its performance benefits in a purely target shooting setting.

In all seriousness though, do you dry fire practice rice at home? Do you have a consistent grip and trigger pull? Do you understand all the mechanics that go into pistol shooting? Yeah, theyโ€™re timed for the frame they come with so they might not line up perfectly with a different frame. If I remember correctly if you take the cylinder out I think theyโ€™re stamped on the inside end and both cylinders should have the same stamping for the conversion frame they were timed for.

depends on the grips themselves. its possible for them to be super grippy if they cut the serrations/diamond pattern to be like that. its also possible they hit it with sandpaper to make it not annoying to hold and not chew up your shirts. then its the same as plastic.
really depends on how they were cut. potentially they can be significantly gripper than wood or plastic.really depends on how they were cut.
if you got smooth g10 grips they wouldnt be grippier.its not g10 means its grippier by default its all on how they cut the checkering.

Maybe how harsh the recoil feels, subjectively? Also, accuracy/precision/ease of shooting tight groups.
I know you said "vibes", but really, aesthetics matter a ton. If you don't think the gun is cool, then you're not gonna like it, even if it performs well enough.

HK poop30sk, the two that I know who had them both sold them. One switched to the PX4 and the other went back to carrying a HK45
Shadow 2 CARRY (not the compact, compact is steel while the carry is aluminum, the compact has a safety while the carry is decocker)

The PX4 I can fully strip to armorer level in a minute (due to the trigger pack being a cassette). Ergos leave some to be desired but I actually like the grip.

There is nothing wrong with the Gen 5, theyโ€™re superior to the Gen 3 in nearly every metric, that metric being parts compatibility since most clones and aftermarket are based on Gen 3 guns due to California. What the other poster, a illegal immigrant (student visa, flunked out of school due to drug addiction) is talking about is that most โ€œGlock switchesโ€ on the market are made for the Gen 3, the Gen 5 updated the design trying to prevent them from being used, which people have designed Gen 5 versions.

Supposedly the first Gen ones were flawed and would start feeling gummy after a few hundred rounds, but the new ones are coated to prevent this from happening and are actually quite good. YMMV, the internet is still waiting for the verdict to be out in the new ones.

Not that anyone cares, but I did some chronograph testing with my Blackhawks: the 7 1/2" barrel vs the 4 5/8". The ammo was the Buffalo Bore +P .45 Colt with a 225 Gr projectile.
I was surprised that the extra 3" of barrel barely increased the velocity at all, well within the variance of one round to the next. Also, the purpose of this beside comparing the barrel lengths was to confirm that it would be Colorado legal for big game out of my guns, which it is.

That actually kinda jibes with the data on ballisticsbytheinch. If you look at their .45 super data (I know you're shooting .45 LC, but their .45 LC loadings are nowhere near as energetic as your buffalo bore +P), they only show a difference of 50 fps from 5 inches to 7 inches.

Also, that's fucking nutso velocity for a 225 gr projectile, you're a maniac.

Not an easy comparison, but pic related is buffalo bores 360 gn 454 casull hunting loads out of my Alaskan with the 2.5 inch barrelโ€ฆ. Averaged around 1100.. my handloaded 454 running the 240 gn xtp mag bullets generally gets to around 1370-1410 depending on how spicy you go with the h110.. again from a 2.5 inch barrel.. I really need to pick up an encore frame and start collecting barrels for testing

Watch some Ben Stoeger videos on YouTube, or better yet, read some of his books. First and foremost, your grip is everything. Your dominant hand must sit as high up on the gun as possible and your support hand must get good purchase on the available space that's left. Your grip has to be consistent (assuming you figured out how to grip it). Next comes trigger pull. Hard to say anything tailored to you without seeing some targets though. You should be dry firing like 50 to 100 times for in between range trips for every 1 round you fire at the range.

I just threw a large number out there to stress the importance of practice. But if you don't know what you're doing then repetition will only create bad habits. There is tons of stuff on YouTube about pistol shooting fundamentals. Brush up on those and practice dryfiring the things you learn. Then go to the range and see how you shoot. How you shoot will tell you what you need to work on. Repeat the cycle.

I have a P232SL, I fucking hate it, the serrations suck ass and become nearly unusable with all the dirt they attract, and being blowback it is very unpleasant pistol to shoot. And Sig pistol sights suck, they're all combat-sight so if you're used to sighting with other handguns they shoot low. It's also a nightmare to get additional magazines, they're $70+ a piece or you have to do a janky cut to Bersa Thunder mags that'll still stick out from the bottom.

Yeah. It does look nice, but it's just not really what I'd consider practical compared to currently available alternatives. It's heavy for its size, it's single-stack, it's .380, its trigger is unimpressive and even somewhat slippery. Heel mag release makes reloads slow, though I guess you don't really want to be dropping $70 mags on the ground. It's barely acceptable to carry, it feels awful to shoot, and the heel release is apparently prone to getting some cosmetic rust (not my fault, it was my grandpa's and I got it that way). I'll say it at least cycles reliably and when it's empty I guess I can throw it at someone's head.

Personal opinion, I think carrying a spare mag on anything that holds less than 13+1 is prudent, particularly if you're talking about a belt gun.

An average self defense shooting involves a single attacker and one of two outcomes assuming you have decent shot placement. One, you fire a single round and the attacker stops either because they don't want none or you hit a vitally important spot. This happens around 1/3rd of the time. The other 2/3rds of the time you fire 3-5 reasonably well placed rounds before the attacker stops. Accomplices pursuing an attack either at the same time or after you have handled the first attacker is not the norm, but it does seem to happen with a greater frequency than most would expect. Trailing accomplices are particularly common it seems. If you bother to watch DGU videos in quantity you will note this is hardly an unrealistic situation. A similar outcome in terms of rounds needed to handle a second assailant can be safely assumed. While I think preparing for 3 or more attackers is unlikely enough not to be worthwhile, 2 attackers is common enough to be worthwhile to seriously consider. Handling a reasonable but less than common self defense situation would involve 4-10 reasonably well placed rounds. Add in a bit of padding because shit happens and we reach my personal conclusion. A spare mag makes sense for anything holding less than 13rnds, not so much for those that do.

YMMV etc

The easiest way to source inox parts is gunbroker โ€œberetta repairโ€ kits, gun busters take in police confiscated guns and other buy back guns and part them out. The hardest parts to source is the take down pin and trigger pin.

The NP3 kit from LTT is good since it comes with a decocker kit and also the LTT trigger job, 450 bucks is steep but it has every single part, a trigger job, and decocker conversion. It also has a locking block which is said to make the action slicker, since itโ€™s the main moving part. Every single part except the extractor actually.

Can anyone give me their personal thoughts? Preferably if you also have a compact, but I'll take full-size as well. Also would the comp somehow prevent you from holstering it in a phlster? The compensators have a ton iterative changes done to them, I donโ€™t think theyโ€™re that effective anyway. If you are going to get one, they impact holster selection, the light bearing ones are easier to find holsters for. The non lightbearing ones are kind of a after thought, the lightbearing ones have better attachment methods

The rail models I couldnโ€™t get good fit with and they blow too much out the sides. Any increase in recoil reduction would be countered by the increase of muzzle blast to the face which would disorient me. I was shooting Winchester Service Grade which is one of the hottest 9mm range loads available

Took the P365 to the range today, the front sight post is sliding all the way over to the right after a few rounds. I assume the dovetail joint is not machined well, or the sight itself is slightly too thin at the base.

Anyone else had this happen?

Either one or the other, you wonโ€™t be able to tell without a new sight to compare. You can fix it with loctite in the sight dovetail and also โ€œstakingโ€ the front sight with a sharp flat bladed screwdriver and a mallet.

You really can't go wrong with either. I don't know how much experience you have with handguns or firearms in general but both are exemplary firearms. I would find a public indoor range and fire 100 rounds through each of them to find out which one you enjoy more. No matter what you choose, theres no wrong choice

I have one with a holosun dot. I like it, 2500rds with no problems. Only thing ive heard is to switch the mag release with a glock one to use oem mags without undue wear.
Oh and replace the connector with a lighter one.
Anyways though thats all i did and now it makes shooting fucking boring i can stack rpunds oht at 10 yards and can slam a four inch circle out to 25. So boring i started fucking with cowboy guns and old milsurp.
However i will admit to getting the gun for the same price as a regular glock and going into the whole ordeal with the mindset of it being a low cost proof of concept for dot sighted handguns.

Unironically it depends on the person. I shoot my Glock 19 better than my buddy's PDP but I also have a friend that literally shot the barrel out of his Glock 19 after tens of thousands of rounds and he shoots even better with his new PDP. Honestly, you could even make the choice over whichever one you think is cooler.
