I'm also starting to believe that there's no point in shortening a "fighting rifle" since concealability and fighting doesn't exactly go together
and putting a can on an 11.5 or 12.5 brings us back to our carbine length.

The reality is that 10.3 - 16” have way more overlap than many acknowledge and that’s probably at least party because of guntubers and forums hyoerfixating on minmaxxing.
A red dot is completely at home on a 16” and likewise you can throw magnification on a short barrel as well.
16” is probably a lot closer to a “do it all” than an 11.5 but the differences are so insignificant within the context of most applications it really all comes down to what you want to do, what you even can do, and what’s important to you to get there.
It’s probably nice to shoot a barebones 16” after ripping a gizmomaxxed 11.5 with a can all day.

So long story short it's likely enough in some form that it makes sense to strive to be located in an area that's highly racially homogeneous, has reasonable access to fresh drinking water, has a reasonably robust infrastructure, and isn't overly reliant on external support; reasonably self-sufficient.
Above all else having your own individual access to those things is best, think homestead.
Having a gun is good.
Being proficient with a gun is better.
Being self reliant is good.
Having a community of self reliance is better.
It's not rocket science.

It also doesn't take an end of world scenario for those to be aspirational goals. We saw during Covid how fragile supply chains are. Likewise we saw how ineffective police can be and how quickly mobs can form, turn violent, and destroy cities. All this while people still had to work, pay taxes, and the mail got delivered. Large institutions which make up every day life were for the most part unchanged. Point being it can get bad while also not being total anarchy. Planning for unexpected job loss more practical than planning for a fire fight at the local McDonalds.
