the aesthetic wars and conflicts post-1900 are, in order from most aesthetic to least:
>Vietnam, the OG
>Chechnya I
>Gothic Serpent
>Desert Shield/Desert Storm
>Rhodesian Bush War
>WWII Euro Front
>OEF/OIF
>Chechnya II
>WWII Pacific front
>Benghazi
>Soviet Afghanistan
>Ukraine 2022
>Korean War
>WWI
>Panama

Everything Sub-Panama isn't really worth mentioning

>ukraine has been pretty drab outside of the initial invasion. it doesn't help that everyone looks the same.
ukraine is pretty fuckin sweet actually, from most of the shit I've seen it's a pretty interesting split between ukrainian legion/spetsnaz/azov dudes kitted out in drippy operator gear clearing villages out and periodically taking totally unequipped russians prisoner
it's a shame nothing is coming out of russia because I'd like to see if there's a similar highspeed SF/SOF component operating on that side or if most of their experienced guys died to the first six months. it seems like all they have left is motostrelki and conscripts

The Sino-India conflict is of course the ugliest because they are two shithouse countries playing a massive game of schoolyard snitch chicken, on drab, barren himalayan rocks that have had all their natural beauty stripped out of them, and they beat eachother to death with zero order or battlefield coordination.

Honorable mention to whatever the fuck is happening in Myanmar which looks so boring it seems they just take prolonged breaks on fighting the war.

Then you haven't been looking hard enough, the ruskies got highspeed guys too, but they are not as good at putting out kino as the ukrainians are, granted. But SSO guys are going behind the lines just like ukie SSO does. Vympel was spotted in Mariupol wearing a mix of regular issue gear to blend in and their own gucci gear. The russians uploaded a montage a year or two ago where SSO guys in leaf suits and kitted out rifles was going around in the ukrainian backline ambushing patrols and blowing up bridges. Pretty gnarly footage.

I'll get so much shit of this, or just be accused of baiting, but I think the general fashion of the early 19th century was shit. The pants up the high waist and coats that end at the bottom chest just look bad. These tall hats are dumb looking compared to what came before and after.

The good book does indeed count war an evil, said Irving. Yet thereโ€™s many a bloody tale of war inside it.
It makes no difference what men think of war, said the judge. War endures. As well ask men what they think of stone. War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner. That is the way it was and will be. That way and not some other way.

Men are born for games. Nothing else. Every child knows that play is nobler than work. He knows too that the worth or merit of a game is not inherent in the game itself but rather in the value of that which is put at hazard. Games of chance require a wager to have meaning at all. Games of sport involve the skill and strength of the opponents and the humiliation of defeat and the pride of victory are in themselves sufficient stake because they inhere in the worth of the principals and define them. But trial of chance or trial of worth all games aspire to the condition of war for here that which is wagered swallows up game, player, all.

Late GWOT, easily. It was the peak of the rot of military capabilities, preparedness, competence, doctrine, morale, etc. not just in the US but also globally, and it showed in the aesthetics. Also drove some of the dumbest trends in both military discussion and civilian shooting circles.
The only historical example off the top of my head that sort of matches this feeling of despair, apathy, and weakness is the immediate post-Vietnam US military, though that period's aesthetics has gained its own following in recent years. Maybe in the future it'll gain its own following too.

They were both SSO Senezh if I remember correctly, but I don't think it was the same squad, judging by the weapons. Of course the other guys may be dead too who knows. But I think the main reason we don't as much of those videos anymore is because the frontline is so static, and there are drones with thermals everywhere, which makes it hard not to get spotted. That is what happened to that squad that got killed, spotted by drones and then the ukrainians set up a ambush on them.

I mean, infantry is the backbone for what makes most wars aesthetic but the core component of why Vietnam and the Bush War were so cool was vietnam's air cavalry and gunships and the Bush War's infantry skydiving out of shitty cessnas
Desert Storm also is so high because yeah the PASGT aesthetic but it was the single largest combined arms and aerial campaign of any war since WWII and pretty much every single aircraft in the US arsenal saw combat use short of the SR-71 and F22

I'm also reassessing the WWII Pac front. It deserves to be higher if only because of Ten Go, the Yamato, and just the overall insanity of the late Japanese part of the war in their plan to beach the Yamato and turn it into a fucking coastal artillery emplacement

I am generally a fan of the late 19th century. 1870-WWI basically. The better tailored jackets that went to the hip or mid thigh with good padded chests and waist suppression. Prince Albert Victor in his Hussars uniform for example. But also what the Americans and Imperial Japanese were wearing. The Brits and Germans with the plain field equipment. On parade the nobility was even more ornate than they used to be, but on the battlefield a more pragmatic utilitarianism was beginning to take shape.

What? First of all, no. Second of all, are you kidding me, man!? The Falklands War was kino as fuck. Cold War fighters. British troops in that 80s camo they used to wear. Capital ships blowing up! PENGUINS. That war was awesome and very few civilians died in it.
