Energy = mass ร— velocity. A higher weight bullet of the same velocity as a lower weight bullet will have more energy. Different weights also have different ballistics (velocity, trajectory, energy, speed, range, etc.).
>Why is it even a thing?
Some people want softer shooting, quieter rounds. Some people want barrier penetration. Some people want hotter rounds. Etc.

Yes.

For 9mm pistols? It really only matters because some are finicky with 115gr ammo. My Steyr M9-A1 for example will not properly extract a round with some weak loaded 115gr because it won't kick the slide back enough. No problems with 124gr.

I like 147 gr best, personally, but I'll also shoot some 124 gr. I honestly don't buy 115 gr anymore. I just don't see the point of running something that fast when I can shoot more accurately with the heavier loads. Plus, at 147 gr they are generally subsonic and sound better suppressed. If you want hotter loads without running +P, then buy from European manufacturers (like Sellier & Bellot) l, because Euro loads are all NATO spec (rather than SAAMI), which is hotter.

Winchester Service grade is a 115 gr going at 1300 fps, by far the hottest "range" load and it's only ~25 cents.

Doesn't say it's +P, but Federal's 115gr +P+ load is the same velocity, having shot both Federal's way hotter but Winchester Service Grade is hotter than any range load I've seen.

People are saying get an optic and you should, it's a much better investment than a memelight.
Also the stock sights aren't terrible but the bigger worry is that the plastic front sight can break when dropped and also wear from being drawn and reholstered a lot. I think tritium sights are gay but fiber optics are incredible. The broke man's red dot.

Dan Wesson DWX is a very attractive not-a-2011 2011, internally it only has a 2011/1911 trigger action and the rest is borrowed from modern guns. The barrel is a modern P220 linkless design and the magazines are CZs (CZ, Sig, Beretta, and a few other manufacturers share the same basic magazine tube).

An Apex trigger does a lot for Glocks but it will still be far from a 1911 trigger.
If you want a super light, crisp trigger on a modern optics-ready double stack get a Walther PDP or Canik Rival/Mete. They are optics ready and have a very crisp and light trigger with little takeup and almost no reset.

The only things that can make Glock triggers closer to 1911 triggers is full cock conversions, which completely sacrifice the safety of the โ€œGlock safe actionโ€ and a few of them introduce reliability issues

Maybe the M&P with the apex, Ben Stoeger talks highly of it from the few heโ€™s shot at classes. But if you have the money, just skip the market of โ€œclosest thing to a 2011 in a striker firedโ€ and go straight to a 2011. Right now the prices are coming down on 2011, Tisas exists below 800 dollars, Prodigy at 1200 which is basically a project gun, Fusion Firearms made this not a 2011 that takes glock mags at 1k, DWX exists 1500-2000. Kimber just made a 2011 called the 2k11 and the basic version sits just below 2k - and they also made a .45 ACP version with a 13 round capacity. MBX mags gets 15-16 rounds in the same 13 round mag sized.

I canโ€™t believe we skipped over hammer fired DA/SAs existing. 92s, P226s, CZs, all have good or with aftermarket decent triggers.

The 92 and P226 is what replaced the 1911 in military service. You should look at those. Langdon Tactical 92s with a trigger job start at 1000, they might do a 4th of July sale, for Fatherโ€™s Day I got one 175 dollars off (825).

So I'm thinking about getting a new CC piece, something lighter and smaller than my 686 or my M&P. Since I'm a smith slut in thinking about the Shield, specifically the performance center version for the better trigger and factory fiber optic sights. Would it be a good carry setup with a TLR6 or similar light and a clipdraw? Really I just want something that I can comfortably carry in loose fitting sweatpants so it needs to be light first and foremost

Not really. Most guns in .380 are direct blowbacks and small. It can be quite snappy. Also, itโ€™s more expensive than 9mm and hollow points either donโ€™t expand well enough or penetrate enough. 9mm is just better.

Canik is good but instead of leaning into a more ergonomic grip like Walther and HK they have a pretty stock rectangular grip. You might prefer it.
The TTI has a comp which can make it less reliable. The Mete and Rival are cheaper and less bullshit to deal with. The TTI extended slide stop is nice though.

Note that the only ones that had "problems" were the first generation Full Size comps, that would put too much pressure and either crack themselves or crack the frame and if you didn't notice it could cause whatever the comp equivalent of baffle strikes is.
At one point they discontinued and stopped selling them due to the risk, but they should be fine now.

Comps dont do anything on pistols. They just dont. They look cool, sure. I have a Stainless Px4 that im "working on" that will eventually have a comp and get sent for a langberg Jewtical goyptic cut, but im taking my time because i want to find a compact in the wild and try it out before committing.

My Nighthawk Predator 10mmโ€™s slide stop wasnโ€™t fit correctly and would interfere with the incoming round, engaging prematurely in which would lock the slide back with partial engagement peening the slide. Ben Stoeger was talking about his Staccato in a recent video and said that when he bought it people were telling him Staccato probably knew who he was so they sent him the best, most QC'd gun they had. It turned out to not be true and the one they sent him was shit, poorly fitted and failed multiple times "but the warranty is good."
I'd rather things just work out of the box and I never have to deal with customer service.

I have one, with an EPS Carry, and a CGW extended firing pin and firing pin safety pin. Those CGW parts are necessary upgrades. The trigger starts off gritty, but smooths out over time, but not as fast as I'd like. I've only got four digits of rounds through it, and the single action is still somewhat inconsistent, due to the nature of the roller bearing putting each trigger pull on a different section of surface area. It always has a good bit of slop and a crisp break, sometimes with no grit, and sometimes with a touch of grit before the break. Double action is good for a stock duty gun. No real complaints.

I've never had a single malfunction. The gun is very easy to shoot accurately. That said, if you go through eight or so mags back to back (not just dumping rounds, but shooting sensibly fast), the trigger does get uncomfortably hot.

I love the gun, but again, those CGW firing pin parts are necessary upgrades.

You need to ascertain if the malfunction was
1. User error
2. Bad slide stop
3. Magazine related

2 and 3 can be found by loading rounds and just racking the slide manually.

The P-09 is not very good. It uses the shitty and problematic Omega trigger and the decocker adds more stacking to the trigger. People usually say you have to get Cajun Gun Works aftermarket shit to make it suck less, which is not cheap and is a pain in the ass to install in the gun.
The P-10 on the other hand is just good out of the box.

Looks pretty neat.
I am moving from a USP9C to either a CC9 or a VP9A1K for daily AIWB.
Still not decided, I go back and forth each day on which to choose.
The CC9 seems like the better CCW with a dot on it, but I feel like the VP9 will feel more similar in size to what I'm used to shooting, but with the dot it might be too big.

P update. I broke the gun down and cleaned/lubed everything up this morning. Emptied the magazines to see if they would push the slide stop up when inserted into the gun. The first one didnโ€™t but I noticed the slide stop wasnโ€™t fully โ€œseatedโ€ (part of reassembling the gun). Once it was seated all of my magazines engaged the slide stop while empty. Going to the range to ensure it works after last round is fired.

Not yet, but I only put 200 rounds through my nickel one after getting that done and the barrel/breech block aluminum titanium nitrided. They're both used eBay specials, but seeing that an aftermarket frame is under $200 and I have a lot of parts I can reuse from my other P220s I might as well assemble 2 more.
I wouldn't put +P ammo through them.

I'm not a huge fan of DLC finishes, the 45 degree slide top cut, or the pattern they used on the grip panel areas but those are all pretty minor aesthetic gripes.

As a 1911 with a common, high cap 15 round mag, optics cut, thin frame, and threaded barrel is does everything I want out of a replacement to the G19 I sold.

I like Culver's too, we have both here. Sounds like you might have had bad luck unfortunately - admittedly Whataburger can be pretty inconsistent between locations. It took me years to perfect my order and find the location that wouldn't fuck it up. It's my favorite fast food burger bar none. Culver's has great side options and custard, and they do fish and chips so that's a win.

Why? It should be a stock gun.
The JW movies have it all backwards. The hero should have a stock or largely stock gun because that's a gun anyone can have, it means the hero is an everyman and distinguished only by superior skill and willpower. The bad guy is the one with the gaudy $5000 riced out gun because they are an arrogant faggot that buys skill to make up for low moral character.
In JW Keanu or whoever the hero is is supposed to be on the run, alone, yet has some $5000 custom 2011 and everyone else is running stock guns including the rich as fuck villain of JW4 who uses a stock M&P despite his entire character being a snobby impossibly wealthy faggot.

That's the point, retard. He's John Wick so he can be good with any gun. He doesn't need $10,000 superguns. It's actually more impressive if he's using normal guns, like he did in the first movie.
It's only from JW2 and onwards that the protagonist always gets special Taran guns. Why don't other people have bullshit custom guns? Why is it literally only just protagonists?

It's just a weird choice. I wish they did an explanation of why. Have someone ask him and he gives a reason. Nothing fancy. I can be he just likes it the most, or shoots it well, fits his hand. On paper it's just a straight downgrade.
