>super secret C.I.A. operators
>wear proprietary camo pattern that is a dead giveaway
Why?
Anonymous No.63925429 [Report] >>63925521 >>63934392
The NDS guys they were training were also equipped with desert tiger, so it was to blend in with the local feds. CIA guys continued to wear it even when they worked alone, because it worked and looked cool, and it sorta became a thing.

Sub-optimal, at least where that photo was taken. I thought he was sitting on a MARPAT ruck until I zoomed in.

Idk what you expect, no camo is expected to be effective from a yard away. Looks to me like they blend in just fine with the hillside.

i had no idea cia owned tiger stripe
Anonymous No.63927614 [Report] >>63934392
When I was in Iraq, the IIS STU Team wore some kind of black tiger stripe IIRC, so the PMO’s wore the same (and did most of the heavy lifting). I was just a security detailfag and we weren’t allowed to wear camo.

The real super secret operators didn't look like combatants at all. They definitely didn't pose for pictures

Peak GWOT they literally could spend all the money. Got $2500 to buy outdoor gear, first week on, my team issued me about $150k in gear, NVG, comms, good stuff.

I have no words to communicate what a moronic take this is. Just know that not every journalist/usaid fag/security guard running around some fob or cop is actually one.

Many, keep in mind I was a security fag so I went where the directors went. Some highlights:
-On a NYC trip we were on post for a dinner meeting at a very fancy steakhouse. Decided to splurge and eat, go to pay, “King Abdullah has paid your bills” as he gives us a wave.
-Was in another foreign officials guest mansion and my partner clogged the shitter up. When they sent a plumber, the local intel guys saw me go upstairs with my radio and he said, “Yessss very clever, you check for microphones”. I say no it’s just a radio, he shakes his finger like “not gonna fool me.”
-It’s not bad going to shithole countries if you’re strapped.
-We said we were the highest paid time wasters in the fed gov since it’s a lot of hurry up and wait.
-You learn nothing in the news is organic

This.
The point is to blend in with the people. If it happens to blend in with the scenery, then great. Same exact reason glowies wore OG Tiger Stripes in Vietnam in certain areas (it's a South Vietnamese pattern).

I know you've talked about this stuff before in other threads but I was wondering if you could in depth with the hiring process and your career progression. One things I'm most confused about is GRS guys being referred to as "contractors" which implies that the CIA hires them form a private security company but for what it seems they are fully fledged employees.

Peak GWOT, of any 4 person GRS team at a FOB, 3 were contractors and the staff agent was the TL onsite not to be confused with the actual TL supervisors at HQ. This was just due to manpower needs, it sure what the ratio is now. For my first TDT, as a new guy out of school, I’d be sent to some place where I’d be the TL of guys who were all super former high speed guys. I was hired in a weird time where they wanted to bring in people with more diverse backgrounds (I.e. not all Tier 1) as permanent staff agents. Many of the guys don’t want to be more than contractors for the flexibility. It’s still a great gig when you’re not deployed, lots of time to do what you want, train etc.

Could I go from air traffic control to SSO?
Anonymous No.63931504 [Report] >>63931515
>>63931282
The only impediment to a job where you have some degree of cover is they don’t like when people have an established work history in the IC. Example it would be hard to go from a uniformed SPO to a Directorate of Ops job bc now your background and biometrics are associated with your past agency job. When I started as an Ops contractor we shared a vault with a team where the SSO’s did foreign service training. Had a nice room of MP5’s and 7’s.

It’s best to think what directorate l you’re interested in and get in that way. Like if you want to be on DPS detail, you can come on as a security professional and work your way up. I was one of the only ones to basically come in off the street and go on the detail. GRS is direct hired for their skill set but their are GRS agents who started as uniformed SPO’s etc.

I had a conversion with another controller who went from the FAA to the Uniformed Secret Service Division and wonder if the same could happen with the CIA, only career I saw on the website that had some overlap was Specialized Skills Officer.

National directorate of security, Afghanistans domestic intelligence service. Contextual clues like "guys (the CIA) were training" and "local feds" might have given you enough information to figure it out.
