Other than small ones like the J-Frames or LCRs they’re niche products for enthusiasts. Look at Taurus if you need to go cheaper.

Can I see that? Frankly I doubt your claim. That's .45acp levels of expansion with deeper penetration. I'd believe it with 10mm. Also desu, sounds pretty in line with mid weight .357 magnum loads.

32 gets you 1 extra round and reduced recoil. for a psychological stop (99% of stops), any caliber will do. for a physiological stop, you need to hit vitals anyways, and 38sp is going to increase that area by a whopping ~.04in because it's not expanding out of a snubbie anyways. shot placement > stopping power. if you want to practice for cheap, just shoot 32 long (although honestly i'd argue it's better for carry too)

.45 can actually blow up to like .85" just with a little less penetration. .357 on the other hand just seems to suck no matter what. The only .357 rounds that will expand to this degree are all copper meme rounds. Others either grossly over-penetrate or basically just match 9mm performance or worse, all in exchange for a bunch of recoil.

Show me results from this magic .357 loading you have. Generally speaking they just expand out to like ~.55" like a 9mm unless it's an all-copper meme round. I double-dare you to show me one that did better than that .40 loading. The truth is that all that extra energy is a complete waste unless you have a projectile that actually takes advantage of it.

The hollowpoint expanded too quickly so it could only fart out one inch past the bare minimum (12"). It's passable, but it's not good. Considering how much recoil is required to get even that much performance it's just not worth it. You'd be better off with a 9mm revolver.

It's a semi-auto pistol with a 2-chamber cylinder added as an after thought to evade patents and meet nonsensical military acceptance standards.
It has more in common with a Browning model 1900 than it has with a typical revolver.

I have a .32 h&r
I have multiple .38 specials
I have two .357 magnums
Is .44 magnum worth it? I really keep thinking I want to get something that is more powerful and gives me more variety and fun. But I keep things about some detractions against it
* many people say the recoil is stupid, I won't want to shoot it much, or I'll just shoot .44 special out of it more
* These motherfuckers are expensive
It seems silly to buy a .44 anything and have it not be a magnum. But I keep hearing it is so unfun to shoot that I also think that maybe I could save a lot of money by just buying a .44 special from Charter Arms and have fun with it, while also being able to say I own something more powerful than .357 magnum. Plus I hear the .44 special is more powerful than full house .357 loads but the recoil is not unpleasant to shoot for fun. How true is that? And should I just go for a cheaper .44 special over the magnum?

.44 Special is less powerful than .357 Mag. Pretty comparable to .45 ACP, and still slightly inferior to that in raw numbers. It's a very fun caliber to shoot from a full size .44 Mag rated revo, but it is absolutely miserable from a lightweight Charter Arms Bulldog. I wouldn't recommend buying a .44 Spl specific revolver unless you're a reloader or just extremely autistic and enjoy niche stuff.

.44 Special is a near-perfect cartridge, *IF* you're into handloading. It can be dialed up to comfortably surpass .357, or dialed down to be a powder puff plinker. However, factory loads tend to be powder puffs.

Read some old revolver gunwriters like John Taffin and Skeeter Skelton. They loved the .44 Special. Here's a Skeeter article that gives a good rundown:

Their hardwood custom grips are amazing honestly, well worth the money to get exactly what you want. I like their rosewood but it doesn't look right on stainless guns.

Only problem is they made me wait the full 60 days. I believe they shipped it out exactly on the 60th day. The grip is CNC cut and they could probably knock it out within an hour of receiving your order but they sit on orders until the last minute. I would personally order a rubber overmold grip (which ships out next day) and then order a hardwood grip separately and wait for it.

32 acp is my edc, good enough for the great war good enough for me. 327 can't be much worse than that. No one ever named their militia death squads after a revolver. Meanwhile the Bosnian scorpions are in photos with their name sake 32s commiting war crimes. Given the last century's dead accumulated by the round, revolvers as a class are nearer to becoming a meme than 32 as a ballet class.

If the caliber starts with a .4 or larger then you absolutely should be handloading if only for the money. 44 magnum is expensive and most stores don't even carry 44 special anymore. 38/357 can be a wash depending on your reloading setup and what you value your time at but big bore is where you actually save money while reloading which translates to being able to shoot and practice more.

If reloading you can have different loads but the same OAL, which means less mucking with dies, cylinder fouling and less free-bore. Load 357 to 38 special-level , 44 mag to 44 special levels, 454 casull to 45 Colt can all be good. I ended up with a shit ton of HP38 and H110 because that works for pretty much all my magnum calibers and their softer shooting counterparts.

I have a 45-70 BFR, and I use Varget for that. I got it as more of a meme gun but I honestly would recommend getting a BFR in a big bore caliber as they are made in the USA, well built, and come with an optional rail.

Yes you probably will have to take it apart. FYI don't lube your revolver like that. Use tiny amounts of lube on the contact points and that's it. They run better dry. All the extra lube does is attract carbon and gums up the action.

I think if I remember correctly and if you don’t mind it being gigantic and heavy, you can get a super redhawk in 10mm.. wonder if magnum research cuts a short cylinder BFR for 10mm.. getting that with a 40 s/w cylinder, the 10mm auto and the 10mm magnum would be pretty cool.

Super dangerous, I had a few pieces in my skin and a little blood. When I say shards I don't mean the gas that normally escapes, I mean the fucking bullet exploded when it it the forcing cone where half the bullet went down the barrel and the other half fragmented out the cylinder gap. Taurus recut the forcing cone but I'll never shoot that fucking thing again, bunch of fucking faggots.

OP here, that is correct. Specifically, it's a 360J, the Japanese police revolver they commissioned from S&W. You can occaisonally find contract overruns of these in the US. Airweight frame, steel cylinder. I really wish I had the New Nambu M60, but this is the closest I can realistically get. anyone have UC442? got one in the shop and looks really nice. Only bad thing I heard was "the sights will snag in your pocket!" from autismos.

the old timers recommended the UC432 but the UC642 looks more appealing to me since i wont have to jump to a new caliber.

Hamre forge for all my carry revolvers. The black widow grip is bulky where the Hamre forge grip is still small while being ergonomic. Its especially helpful for cocking it one handed. The clip is neat, I don't use it much but it's nice to have and doesn't really get in the way.

5 shot cope. 38 is great in larger revolvers but sucks in the small frame models.

32 gives you 6 rounds in a small frame revolver and is easier to shoot. No brainer.

I would get .41 mag if you want to go big bore. That's probably as big as I would want to go and I would be happy staying with what you have.

How about you get a lever action in .357? That'll do more damage than even the stoutest load from a 44 mag revolver. Some 357 loads are entering lower powered 30-30 territory.

I really wanna get a 460xvr at some point… feel like it’s the last of the “commercially common” big bore rounds…. I will say that the between a 454 casull Alaskan, and a 500 bushwacker BFR if I’m letting someone try it with middle of the road ammunition for each caliber then I’m a lot more concerned about the 454 shot than the 500 BW…. The recoil has rapid unpredictable acceleration than most people expect.. with the BFR both before it had the brake with 500 mag, and after with 500 BW it’s a much more defined arc of muzzle rise vs a straight back punch…

I don't know, never even held a GP100 in my hands.
The Manurhin is really beefy, it's a thicc boy, weighs exactly 1 kilogram and you feel it on your belt. The way I understand it, the French special forces asked for a revolver that could take something like 40k .357 +P rounds without a single failure so the makers really beefed it up, it's over-engineered like one of those 2JS Toyota Supra engines that are simply unkillable.

Nothing. The MR88 is sort of the odd duck among Manurhins in that it's really rather boring. It's not a bad gun by any means, but it's basically just a Ruger. It doesn't have the insane quality of the MR73,or the strange looks & unique cylinder release of the rare 93 and 96.

Also, among those guns the Casull is going to be extra snappy compared to the BFR because it's so much lighter and it doesn't have a brake. Yeah the Bushwacker is more powerful on paper but that gun is much heavier, the brake looks very effective and also adds more weight out at the muzzle

It's like watching two fat boomers argue about football statistics. The only thing that matters is results: How many rounds it takes to stop an attacker. We have statistical data on this and the results are quite clear: .40 performs no better than most common pistol rounds (.380, .38 spl, 9mm, .40, 10mm, .45 AARP) .357 magnum does. No youtube gel video will change that, it's just cope.

Alright m8, I took a few pics. I put a clipdraw on it for waistband carry when jogging and the clipdraw says Sakura because the Japanese police call them the 360J Sakura, so I figured I'd do a little nod to that. Fun fact about the 360J: the original S&W 360PD is in .357 magnum, but the Japanese police specifically didn't want the ability to shoot magnums (probably because they're too scary or something like that), so the 360J is .38 special only.
>>63965950
You're probably thinking of the New Nambu M60. It's slightly bigger than a J frame which is probably why the Japanese police replaced it with an actual J frame. When the police gun is closer to a badge of office than something to ever be fired in the line of duty, a small and lightweight revolver makes the most sense.

Bro these fuckheads put a serrated trigger on a gun with a shit single action, how retarded can they be? Serrated triggers suck for DA because they don't let the trigger slide along your finger while rolling the trigger, they literally only help in SA. Colt is overpriced mass produced shit now, the reason old snake guns were prized is that they were all hand fit and thus higher quality direct from the manufacturer. That made it hard to swap components without some know-how or a gunsmith but the trade-off was getting a complete and well done gun.

Colt is just a name, if you buy new Smiths and Colts you are a fucking retard. I own a fuck ton of revolvers from Smith, Ruger, Colt, BFR, Taurus, I own Italian SA repros and classic turn of the century era guns; I would never recommend purchasing a new product outside of a BFR, everything else is overpriced mass produced shit that needs additional work straight from the factory. It's really said how our gun industry has fallen.

The old Pythons were dogshit and went out of time fairly easily.
If you've ever held one that was put of time, the trigger pull is wildly fluctuating from 8-18lbs as things grind and slam together.($2599 btw plus tip for that nickel piece of shit)
The new ones are a massive improvement in durability, the single action sear on the hammer is too pronounced and the trigger return spring side of the main spring is too heavy. That's what causes the heavy SA.
While I do hate new Smiths, the Colts haven't had nearly the same problems with their new revolvers.
I own several, I don't give a fuck what you own or how many. If I'm guessing the anon correctly, you started loading in 23?

Disgustingly pansies at Geneva get upset every time I suggest we finally sort this out by using 5000 or so prisoners and shooting them in lab conditions. A control group we just give a sandwich, a placebo group we shoot with 6mm flobert. Pay the survivors for their time. We're not monsters.

The Alaskan and the toklat version aren’t too bad. But not great for hunting. As much as Taurus has a history… their raging hunters in 454 aren’t half bad…. It’s one thing to cheap out on a 38 special…. But in general I don’t think anyone really cuts corners on 44 mag and 454…

No, the Alaskans etc are all Super Redhawks.
The only thibg special about the 454 and 480 models is they use a strong type of stainless steel for the cylinder called 465 Carpenter, they also use a different barrel steel that resists forcing cone erosion better.

Yup. Fwiw other than the Alaskan variant theirs also the “Toklat” which aesthetically is really nice.. but it was a distributor special that is unfortunately hard to find… the full barrel super Redhawks have a “barrel looks like a straw added after the fact” the toklat is the only way I’ve seen that has the longer barrel but doesn’t look odd…. The Alaskan version is just the shrouded section of barrel…. Which also looks good, and is a blast to shoot, but isn’t exactly a good option for long range hunting

I don't think about scallops ever because they're entirely aesthetic.
They could cut them into the 454 and 480 models and there's no difference in strength since the stop notch is always the weakest area even when offset unless the are directly between chambers in which case scallops still don't make a difference.

The redhawk and super redhawk are almost dimensionally the same in all areas and several integral parts are interchangable provided you do the fitting.(it's rare a cylinder just slots in)
I don't see how you can marvel at the "girth" when you own both. Measure the thickness at the rear corner of the frame window to the area underneath the rear sight blade. Then measure the thickness of the top strap right above the cylinder gap. Virtually identical in the spots that matter.
Super Red is chunky in weird places and it's not clear what Ruger was trying to do beyond ensuring scopes could be mounted directly on the frame, reducing manufacturing costs, and standardizing the 2 spring action found in the GP100. Maybe they designed it while they were chasing the Redhawk barrel thread corrosion problem.

By the numbers, the Redhawk weighs the same and some models weighed more like the old 357s which are nearing 4lbs.
Having a full grip fram adds some weight and the Redhawk's old 1 piece barrel is a lot more metal in total.

Which I suspect vastly simplifies machining and construction..

My honest experience is that everyone making a big bore revolver puts a little more care into it than the much higher production number 22’s and 38’s…. Somehow between them not being produced in nearly as large a number, and the fact that it’s an awful lot more explosion next to your hands, it seems like most all of the big bore revolvers are pretty solid. The only one I can think of offhand with stories of failure is the Xframe.. but generally those fall into one of two categories… either “we were shooting bubbas pissing hot hand cannon loads” (which I’d probably stick to doing in a ruger or BFR) or “the one at my gun store lost its rifling or somehow failed” which should come with an asterisk pointing out that roundcount is important, and the “we stock the big one” revolver at a rental range is gonna see a lot more use than yours unless your either into reloading, or have a fuckton of money to spend on it…. Before I got into reloading I was trying different brands of 454 casull ammo after I got my Alaskan… I ran through about 500 factory rounds. Luckily now I have brass for days… but doing the rough math, at about 40-50$ a box of 20 I spent damn near as much on ammo as I did on the revolver…

If you manage to conceal that beast it's a yuUuge cylinder to rotate. The trigger pull will be heavy, the gun is heavy and you'll likely develop a flinch when you shoot it.
There's a good chance you'll miss. There's an even better chance you wear it for a few weeks and realize it's a bitch to carry and size down to something more reasonable.
People who carry revolvers of that size (usually out in the Alaskan bush) typically use a chest holster.

I had mine that low, but had light strikes with anything that wasn't a federal primer. I also refit a trigger plunger in it because trigger didn't like to reset. Sometimes you just get unlucky with the tolerances and they stack in a way that a trigger job can't fix all of its ails.
Put a #12 main and #10 trigger because I didn't want to carry something that may not go off. Pull is around #9.5. single action is #3

5 shots of 460 adds a bit more weight as well… if you have 300 gn bullets then just the bullets are close to 1/4th a pound….

I would bet that only online shills have that holster since I've never seen or heard of them being used by anyone irl. It's like Staccato pistols, if a certain product makes up a disproportionately large amount of online posts but it might as well not exist in the real world, it's shill crap.

That reminds of season 2 episode 12 (The Man in the Cell) of the hit show Bones that aired on Fox. Bones, played by critically acclaimed actress Emily Deschanel, is unable to use her S&W .500 effectively because of how much recoil it has.

Please respond to my schizophrenic train of thought.

>see cheap ubertis,cimmarons,pietas for under 600 dollars
>want a 9mm or 357 magnum
>its intended for plinking only
>the replicas dont have transfer safety bars so if i need to carry it would carry five.
>if I have only five rounds might as well be big caliber 45 colt.
>these replicas cant take stout loads much

what do?

A "factory" Colt 45 with a hardcast bullet going 850 FPS will go through pretty much any animal length-wise, with easily handled recoil. Most people overestimate how much they will shoot "stout loads" through something like a Ruger Blackhawk. Frankly it's not needed, it costs more just to make your hand flip a bit more, if you want "stout" 45's then get a 454 or 460, you can download those to whatever level you think you'll want.

I say get an Italian repro and copy a factory colt 45 load, you'll have fun. There's something just fun slinging a big heavy bullet.
